Bio: Eve Roper

I grew up in Texas, where I developed a love for art at a very young age.
At twenty-one I moved to a small town in Oregon with my family.
And I opened my own small business creating signs and oil paintings.
At thirty-eight I decided to go back to school
and attended college taking a course in Early Childhood Education.
Upon graduating I started teaching
and worked in the school system for sixteen years
as well as teaching "Prep" in the Catholic Church.
I had to quit work due to health issues and
ten years later I started painting and writing poetry.
My husband passed in August 29, 2018 and
I now reside in Texas with my children and grandchildren.

Nursery Rhyme 2 Contest.

Blog Posted by Eve Roper: 3/19/2021 8:11:00 PM

Congratulations to all the winners

I would like to thank everyone that entered the Nursery Rhyme Contest.

This was a very hard contest to judge. I was left with deciding if it was a Nursery Rhyme or  Children Story.   I felt that a lot of the stories should have been first place, but my consciouse  wouldn't  allow me , it wouln't be fair to the Nursery Rhymes.

A nursery rhyme is a short verse , sometimes musical that is often quoted to children.

Example: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.

Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.

All the kings horses and all the kings men,

Could not put Humpty Dumpty together again.

A few poets fell to add a date or Nursery Rhyme at the end of their title.

Dear Eve, Thank you so much for hosting the contest - it was a lot of fun! Thank you very much for my placement too - I would not have written a nursery rhyme unless I got tempted to participate in the contest. I was the last person to enter!!! Now I am feeling very lucky! Congrats to all the winners - all the poems were just exceptional! Love ~ Mala

Anitha, I love the repetitive sounds of your nursery rhyme something the children would enjoy and repeat. Thank you so much for being part of the contest. Hugs Eve

Thanks for the honor of placing in your contest. I did not know if mine would really qualify as a nursery rhyme or just a poem. I tried to put in punctuation to show the rhythm that went with it. I don't think it will be taught like the ones from long ago but maybe entertain a few old poets for a short minute. Sara

- Congratulations .... I have read all the poems :) - Nursery Rhymes for me is a poem with melody that children can remember, if they get too long it becomes a story :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Congrats to all! Idiot that I am, I forgot to even enter. Although almost all nursery rhymes are short, there are long ones such as Wynken Blyken and Nod or the ones made into educational songs such as Old Mcdonald; however, the ones like songs are easy for kids to remember. Mine would be hard for kids to recall all the words! but I still had fun creating it!
