My little boy on rainy days The tin pots are out to stay On those days very dry Some hold vegetables; some meat fry Bang on the unused pots, baby Today's your day for fun ~maybe My little boy; make some noise Little one; use them for your toys Oh! It is raining~ again Listen to, all that den Little one, get the spoon Hit the side, to rain's tune
Sponsor: Eve Roper Contest: Nursery Rhyme 2 Date written: 03/15/2021 I was remembering my mother used to tell me a rhyme that she said her boyfriend wrote to her for Valentine's day. My mother was born in 1901 and was a teenager around 1914 so a very long time ago. Her friend wrote her this poem: I love you a little I love you a lot I love you enough to fill ten pots Eight wash tubs and 3 dishpans So my thoughts for writing this comes from this little poem my mother told me when I was a teenager.

Congratulations on your win Sara, it’s a lovely nursery rhyme and how wonderful that it came from a poem your mother had sent to her on Valentine’s Day so long ago. Belle

Sometimes it's the pots and pans, not the expensive toys, that make the best toys! Congratulations on your sin Sara! Sending you blessings.

Oh, your mother gave you great inspiration, Sara. Toys are expensive and we often find children enjoy playing with things like tin cans more than the toys. Such a delightful poem goes to my faves. Best wishes in Eve's contest! Hugs, Carolyn

Carolyn, Yes, children can be entertained with some very simple items if you have things lying around that you aren't afraid will hurt them. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

Always makes me smile when kids would rather play with pots and pans rather than play with toys. Enjoy your weekend Sara. Tom

Tom, My pots and pans received many a bang from my children and grandchildren. They always loved the boxes Christmas toys came in and would make make-believe houses or forts with them. Imagination the greatest nation on earth. Thanks for dropping by. Sara

SS, I remember when my children were little how I would let them play with pots and pans that were not in use to keep them entertained when I was trying to prepare meals.Yes, I remembered that one from my mother and I noticed that Shel Silverstein has one very similar that he is famous for. I wonder if it was passed down to him from way back. LOL.. Sara

Victor, I also remembered the time when we bought a farm and the first rain that came how we discovered the roof leaked like a shive and every pot in the house was out to catch leaks. We had enough rain water for baths for several weeks. LOL..Wasn't funny then though. Sara

Hi Sara, Your mother's poem was cute. It inspired you to write a good” nursery rhyme” poem. I thought about writing about a rainy day too, but the words wouldn't flow, so I went another direction and wrote about a pink unicorn. You did well. Best wishes in the contest:-)Alexis

Alexis, Your reviews of my work are always encouraging. Sometimes the way we want to go with a poem just doesn't work out and when we quit trying to force something it begins to flow so I know your work will be great. Sara

When I was a very young boy, I used to remove a couple of shelves from the refrigerator and play with them. You have a nice write here.

Robert, I remember years ago some of the refrigerator shelves were somewhat like oven shelves with small metal strips like little rods. I bet those would play like a washboard. LOL. Thanks for the visit. Sara
