I'd like more e-mail notifications on PoetrySoup.

New Triggers:

When I get Soup Mail.
When someone posts a comment to a blog I have started or am following (via a comment)
Responses to a poem comment I have made.
When a contest that I have a poem entered in is finalized.

I know that folks have worked around this various ways, but it seems to me that
these enhancements would not be a lot of work. A general notification service could
be coded ( if it isn't already in place) and the hooks added to the various modules
that it would serve.

What do you think?

yes, I am experiencing the 'system error 500' message too whenever I try to access any of my free verse poems. I've sent two emails to admin about it and have had no acknowledgement whatsoever. I'm not happy about it at all, I think it's very bad that poets are unable to access their own work and the site admin doesn't have the courtesy to respond; strangely it seems to be affecting only free verse poems...

Roy, that's a lot of coddling you are asking for. hahaha. I think it would be nice, of course, but I guess I would be happy just to not see the system error keep coming up on some of the old things I used to enjoy doing, like going to the list of new poems by poet. good luck with getting all THIS!!!! Suz, I don't know WHY Soup does that comment on comments. It is rare that someone will remember to go back to see if you commented to what they said, especially when so few are doing it. I enjoy just commenting back to someone on his /her poetry!!

I hear you, but I don't think it's a huge task. I guess the issue is that the site is not much of a money maker, maybe none at all. But I hate the system error, too. I just had to repost a poem that I was unable to edit. Lost all the nice comments. No response from support after 3 days.

Roy: I think it would make communication easier. I often make comments but don't have time to go back and look for responses. It kind of cuts off what could become a nice friendship. I know I have commented on many poets' pages and never hear back from them and half the time wonder if they don't feel it is worth it to bother. It is kind of disjointed to jump to a poet's page and comment on a poem just to be sure they know you are returning the courtesy of a visit to your page. Do you follow what I am trying to say. SuZ

I know you can find old blogs if you go to the poet's-page and click on the Past Blogs Tab. Seems like there are a lot of poets on here -perhaps too many to set up the types of notifications we need.

The other thing about blogs is that once they fall off the first page they pretty much disappear from notice. The life of a blog is 3-4 days insofar as a conversation goes. I think they should bump a blog back up to the top when a new comment is made, maybe even an edit.

Actually the PoetrySoup Facebook page could be used as a blog, and all the notifications are already built in but I have never seen any posts on FB except those made by PoetrySoup.

The same with blogs. I often comment and check back to see my comment not acknowledged but realize unless they look back they may not have known you even replied. causes some miffed feelings at times.
