Born on 01-01-1945, I am a combination of Medicine and Law. After practicing medicine for 35 years I diversified into law, practicing as an advocate in the Supreme Court of India for the last 25 years. In 1997, I founded the Indian Society for Health Laws and Ethics (ISHLE) of which I continue to be the President till date. The same year, I was appointed Chairman of International Committee on Organ Transplantation, World Association for Medical Law. I was the Chief Medical Officer, Ministry of Health, Govt. of India and was associated with the drafting of Transplantation of Human Organs Act of India, in 1993-94
I am also a Bioethicist working on a variety of issues such as end of life decisions, research involving human subjects, sex selection, organ transplantation, property rights in human body, DNA sampling, foetal rights, abortion, stem cells, cloning, reproductive technologies, informed consent, confidentiality HIV/AIDS, care of the elderly, feminine bioethics, priorities in healthcare, quality in healthcare and marketization of health care. I have presented many papers in international conferences and have written more than 100 articles in the field of Bioethics and Health-Law which have been published in leading international journals.
Recently, I developed interest in poetry and during the last 40 days I have posted 32 poems on the Soup.
