I can only wave it once so I have to envision the results
entice my flowers, highlight my house or eliminate faults?
My imagination has ideas that go up into the air
blowing smoke in my mind, without any worry or care.

the ideas are swirling around my dendrite-filled brain.
I always wanted a pterodactyl, and a pink whooping crane.
My own fire engine was another one of my little dreams.
Waving a wand once is not easy it seems.

World peace? How would I know? How long would it last?
Could I go back into my mistakes, travel back into my past?
Could I visit heaven and speak with my mother again?
The ideas are endless, quiver is the state of my chin.

I will have to have more time, I know that now of course.
Black Beauty was gorgeous, do I need a unicorn horse?
the faeries are gathering, to watch me make my mind think.
I finally wave my wand and give myself a new granite sink.

Premium Member Abrupt Justice

Find xanthium' squeeze in a sigh
asking a righteous void, hear my entreat
hand to heart, in a beggar's sky
not just for myself,
not just for why...

Can a heart devoid of hope
seek to find salvation
   from a Quentin Tarantino film
 in a strange pulp voice
that sounded just like mine.

Your sin, my sins
vowed never relent..
nor let cementing cold take you
so don't despair..

Place two fingers, just beside your neck
feel it pulse?
it's you,
and you still care.

Search the world's underbelly
the meek and mild
little mouse infirm, the whooping crane strong, all us
no longer beguiled.

Roaming streets and back alleys
afraid to meet my neighbor's eye
I, the guilty
waiting a just reply.

It's a quarter past two,
last train leaves at three..
the sign at the platform's final end
stands glaring,
waiting a reprieve.

A proud primping Whooping crane calls out
'it's justice'..
All a lowly titmouse discerns,
'it's just us'.

Sitting On the Edge of a Waterfront Hill

sitting on the edge of a waterfront hill
the rain has finally stopped
the reluctant sun has dried everything up
shuggie otis expresses the island feeling
my mind is free
she is at work, but on my mind all the same
the taste of the gravy biscuits and the dr. pepper consume my insides
my stresses are lighter
my funds are still suspect, but more comfortable than the last few months
'God Is Good' is repeating in my mind
though i have to get back to it tomorrow
today is frozen still right now in the most perfect peaceful moment
now the crusaders are mellowing me out, and i have no place to hide
time is a nonfactor today as i watch the water flow and the whooping crane hunt
i just wish that i had more than thirty minutes to enjoy this gem of perfection
however, life and a home alarm system upgrade calls
until the next time, my dear sweet latest discovery of pure contentment

Observant Whooping Crane Haiku

whooping crane sees me
flies on to the other side
likes privacy too

An Unusual Morning After a Dental Appointment

little birds flying around my legs and feet
unless i got some food, no way do they want to meet
i enjoy them in flight, being all free
oh, Sweet Mama, how i wish that was me
the water is their seductress as well as their mirror
it is within this much needed Peace where i see things so much clearer
the whooping crane flies away showing her natural size
this bubblebath jacuzzi feeling inspires the sun to rise
a stray puppy comes out of nowhere to say hello
i pet his little head, and he begins to lick my elbow
we then look at the water together wondering where it goes
we listen to some mid 70s bob james, and the grooves temporarily frees us from our woes

Marsh View Enjoyment Haiku

whooping crane still waits
patiently amongst the marsh
knowing what shows up

"Clapper Rail, Condor,

Loggerhead Shrike and a lost,

Whooping Crane, rarer..."

"Stop!" "Did you make the chess team?"

"No, because I am too short."

Our Zoo

We must live in a zoo
The way that you do
Cry Crocodile tears
Always on cue

As you Monkey around
With every guy in town
Slick as a Snake
With the decisions you make

Craning my neck
Like the tallest Giraffe
As my Elephant mind
Never forgets

And when I bring it up
Say that I've had enough
You scream in my face
Like a wild Whooping Crane

Are you serious
Says this Laughing Hyena
I can't take it no more
Like a Lion I roar

It's hard to keep up
With you Miss Cheetah
Thick skin I have grown
Like a Rhino

I'm tired of your lies
This Owl's become wise
Now that I think of it
This all seems to fit

So I'll see you later
Alligator
It's too hard to cage you
I'm outta this Zoo

Medicine Wings

Raven cries out,
Listen, and listen well.
The darkness holds the answers,
Where the great mystery dwells.

Owl screeches loudly,
Warning, warning beware.
The truth is not obvious,
Seek it out if you dare.

The crow kaws repeatedly,
Look, look in new directions.
Magic is only real,
When you have no hesitations.

The whipporwill whistles,
Answer, answer the rhyme.
A single voice is music,
Your dance the pantomime.

The goose honks in flight,
Work, work together.
There is strength in numbers,
And shelter from the weather.

The whooping crane horns in,
Feel, feel and then release.
When you unharness your emotions,
You open yourself up to inner peace.

The sparrow chirps in song,
Know, know where joy is found.
Be the reason another smiles,
And it will circle back around.

The pheasant coos enticingly,
Ignite, ignite your internal fire.
Having passion for your life,
Makes dreams worthy to aspire.

The hawk shrills forth,
Spirit, spirit in all things.
For the vision, the guidance,
And the wisdom that it brings.

Messengers with medicines,
To learn from and apply.
Sent from the above world,
Creator's great love personified.

Whooping Crane

Long necked
with legs like ruby stilts
the crane lifts it wings
to it's side
and dances with little strides
It bobs and hops:
a skipping rope with feathers
then lowers it's wings
to gauge the effect.
Almost like the wind is a critic
It finds a mate.

Attention Animal Lovers

The Endangered Species Act
referred to as The ESA
is currently having problems
that may not go away.

Several species of wildlife
many a beautiful beast
Could very well become extinct
they're endangered to say the least!

Culprits, don't really seem to care
but they're at fault it's true
Oil Companies, Loggers, Special Interest Groups
just to name a few!

Global warming destroys their habitat,
their ability to hunt and such
Urban and Agricultural development
also don't help that much.

The aforementioned culprits and others
have undermined the ESA.
Some endangered species were left off the list,
"conveniently" needless to say!

The Grizzly Bear and Bighorn Sheep,
the Jaguar and Whooping Crane,
the Black Footed Ferret and Canada Lynx
are some that I can name.

All these animals are quite unique,
there's really quite an array.
So we all gotta do whatever we can
to support the ESA.

Midwest Gifts

Shining sun and thunderous rain
Bear, bison, and whooping crane

The blowing wind and falling leaves
Blooming bulbs and honey bees

Winter, Summer, Spring and Fall
Hardwood trees growing tall

The rivers great and creeks so deep
The golden crops of summer wheat

Ozark Mountains and prairie grass
Carp, paddlefish, and large mouth bass

Whether waterfall or large rock cliffs
These are a few of the Midwest gifts

Marshmallows and Coconut

Summertime is approaching
The smell of the fresh water lake
Waking in the morning, to sit on the rocks
Listening to the cries of the Loon and Whooping Crane

Oh how this time is missed
To finally see the last snow melt away
The warm spring days arrive
With a year wiser, we appreciate the wilderness

To be one on one with nature
To spend the summer with each other,
Nature is ours to explore
Side by side we enjoy our land

Bonfires at night with toasted marshmallows
Coconut and Raspberry Wine
This time we hold so dearly
Our time together for reflecting

Hunting Deer With Dad

One morning, sometime in the Fall,
we went up to our cottage on the lake,
and I put on my camoflauge,
and sharpened my broadheads for the hunt.
My dad and I walked silently through the gray woods,
noting every little barkscrape on the thick trees,
carefully picking our way around brush and ferns.
We found the blind,
a simple affair of branches and logs.
Sitting down, I stretched my bow taut in anticipation,
feeling the plastic fletch on the cold carbon shaft.
A grouse stomped through, a noisy bird,
and my heart started to beat;
I thought it was a deer,
but relaxed infinitely when I daw the fat bird.
Not ten minutes later,
the call of a whooping crane shook me from my thoughts,
and I saw a little figure creeping towards us.
A bobcat, small and lithe,
crept past us,
slinking low to the ground,
the little stump-for-a-tail- held low,
and I smiled at the little feline,
though it didn't smile back.
My feet were cold,
we went back to the truck without a sound.
I love hunting with Daddy.
