'Once you have tasted flight,
you will forever walk the earth
with your eyes turned skyward,
for there you have been
and there you will always long to return,'
wrote Mr. da Vinci (1452 – 1519).
In school I did learn
the plane truth,
and for your information,
it's a collection of spare parts
flying in close formation.
And was it not Icarus in his day
who, in so many words,
was first heard to say,
"Flying is for the birds!"

There’s a story untold,
A mystery to unfold.
Even in her unfinished state,
Her beauty will forever captivate.
Da Vinci’s hand has started the task,
Her delicate face, unable to mask.
His brush has brought her to life,
Serene and peaceful devoid of strife.
So let her hair fly in the breeze,
Disheveled, it falls softly with ease.
Is she waiting for a lost love to return?
The unfinished painting seems to yearn.
Is it a pleasant thought hidden in her gaze?
Is her head tilted reminiscing about his ways?
A sadness or an eternal glimmer of hope,
Her delicate demeanor offers some scope.
Perhaps it is the mystery that will remain,
That gives her beauty an everlasting reign.
Her lips reflect a secret buried deep,
A story Da Vinci offers our imagination to keep.
The inscrutable enigma will never be revealed,
For the final strokes that were never wield.

When all the poetic themes have been written
and all the images created
with all their shades and shadowed renderings
Would a vision sustain beauty in our souls?
Where the universe in the mind
becomes aware of our thoughts
when a naturally painted picture is seen
filled with wisps of elegant light
drifting through pliable limbs
to form silhouettes without movement
And yet, cascades to the eyes of an artist
whose imagination sees in three dimensions
When the beauty of light
is painted on a canvas of leaves and limbs
bending in the wind like a heartfelt glimpse of tranquility
that penetrates the soul
as it surrenders to Nature's painting
More perfect in its inspiration than a Da Vinci

If she does not look pretty you can forget your pay
Leonardo watched the patron keenly that day
She had better not look corpulent, make her look thin.
da Vinci knew now what a pickle he was in.

I like to think of Leonardo da Vinci
Staring at his unfinished painting
visualizing butterflies for they represent transformation
depicting her as disheveled, thus more human
it was bold of da Vinci to select a woman as his subject
suggesting there is more to femininity than most men realize
what would he have added if he had finished?
would it be the same or better? It is fun to ponde

I always wonder
As my eyes wander
Towards the sky
At the clouds up high
Such an amazing view
As if just painted by hue
Such great wonders
Mixed with different colours
Freshly painted
Like Da Vinci once created
Such a scenic view to see
As if you are finally free
From the captivity
Living a carefree life of liberty

Italian polymath and engineer
da Vinci’s mind power extremely clear
His Mona Lisa and The Last Supper
are famous as Leaning Tower of Pisa
Inventions of helicopter and parachute
Mastery of ologies we cannot dispute
He was a painter, sculptor and mathematician
The epitome of the Renaissance Man.
His IQ may be the highest ever seen in this world
His inventions, and creations amazingly unfurled.
Although he has been gone for five hundred years
He was fully actualized during his ninety years.

The famous portrait of Mona Lisa
globally known like Mother Thersa
Her pose so perfect, not a hair out of place,
a hint of a smile I see on her face
A touch of cleavage painted for view,
as if she’s been painted to draw me to you
White porcelain skin,
fingers strong yet thin,
a busty women not big nor petite
Her arms lay cross on the arm of her seat
Da Vinci’s chose of a model
questionable so bland
drew global attention to far away lands
Her wardrobe so dark, draped to perfection
Each stroke by Da Vinci
brought out her complexion
A background of beauty to
compliment one’s star
Fills holes with color which hide all scars
Sits a model in peace with herself and others
Painted by a painter, a friend perhaps her lover
A portrait of beauty painted deep from within
An everlasting look from beneath ones skin
If I close my eyes I see centuries of Mona
Museums may share but not one will own her
Leonardo shared Mona
through his talent in a portrait
Mona Lisa lives on in our hearts
without forfiet

Dear Da Vinci,
Dear Mr. Talented,
You and your images
Vitruvian Man, man colored in red ink
You hide these images in your work
You’re more special than most people think

The Holy Grail is a woman seated next to The Divine Being they say
Mary Magdalene, lifted by God’s Own Finger
I thought it was the Cup, the Cup of Sorrow.
Would the Blood which takes away the Sin come so cheap.
When the Vessel which was to bear it had to be so Pure.
Why would God need a Royal Blood Line ?
When we all receive the Blood of Christ at the Eucharist
Does not it make us all ROYAL ?

her mystery echoes through the years
her smile holds da Vinci's code
who can unlock the brush strokes
in Mona Lisa's eyes
and who can decode the song
she sings with her smile?
