May I state with all humility,
‘Tis not for the faint-hearted
Poetizing requires ability,
Entering a territory uncharted
Sometimes hard to get started.
What calls itself a poem, I say,
Often differs from a poet’s idea
For versifiers often play,
Like mixing a new sangria,
While readers sigh, mama mia!

A world community like no other, this troupe
Of writers and lovers of insightful poetry
Gathered under the imprimatur of Poetry Soup --
Delightful, inspirational, sometimes contrary
With verses ranging from wildflowers to poop.
Something for everyone in these lofty environs
Even historical forays and pedantic endeavor
From sonnets to limericks, epigram, and puns,
Versifiers here are creative and extremely clever
Someone might even write something that stuns.
Here we meet trolls, gremlins, and a gleeful fairy
Playful nursery rhymes and some serious thought
An occasional juicy bit like a fresh ripe strawberry,
An incredible story with a convoluted poetic plot
Poetry Soup can make a most stressful day merry.
So, join us here and find pleasure in our pieces
Take up your pen and write for us a few keen lines
Find a place where your pent-up anger releases,
And all the best muse in you matures and refines
Expression is welcome where wonder never ceases.

When I go out to speak,
I mean to be heard,
giving voice to the spoken word.
I am one of many,
one of the chosen few,
of a distinguished crew.
Poets who answered the call,
Wordsmiths, Storytellers
Versifiers, master mighty mouth
Manipulators and speakers of the truth.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Young and old alike.
Tonight, those of us
who are not wrapped too tight.
Can only hope to hold your attention,
With a world’s fair of the words.
Whenever we choose
to stand and vent.
It is a poetic expressions event.
We dim the lights
in someone’s living room.
Appear in the middle of a café
sometimes with a Dee Jay.
Making our stand accompanied by a band,
in the spotlight on stage.
Or in the middle of Bookstores,
Bars and Restaurants.
Standing on a soapbox
in New York’s Time Square.
That’s right I’ve been there.
Poets everywhere at some point
Stand on a rock and scream
at the world.
To say or to convey,
To spit or express
To give nothing less
Than their very best.
When we go out to speak,
We mean to be heard,
Giving voice to the spoken word.

They are still fighting in the Mideast
Jews killing Arabs and Arabs killing Jews
Civil wars in Yemen and Syria
lead to the death of children
Will out poems change people's hearts?
Let us pray they do
A litle optimism
is what is needed
by all of us versifiers
We must do our best to help create
paths to peace in the world
It is vital!

Though unlived ages defter poets shall bring,
And blur all rhymes woven in my barren span;
May young pupil-scribes with like relish savor
These yellowing tropes as sworn zealots can.
Despite the flurrying crop of many sharper wits,
Let new apprentices of fine art read these lines;
And gratefully gain inspiration from olden writs,
Fresh as dateless gems in death-hidden mines.
And should new vibes rather greatly outshine
This dusty craft and they still dissatisfied pine,
Abiding honor for founding feats will here keep
Future pliant eyes that for fallen warriors weep.
Not for incurable want of well-winding nuance
May youth disdain this tart ink ten eons hence.
Think of all gone generations' fluids of the vine:
Piling time betters stale rhyme like bottled wine!
Muse forbid that future versifiers should deem
These musings an exaggerated antique dream.

I am surrounded by
tens of thousands of
volumes of verse here
Chinese, Japanese ,Jewish and
just about every ethnic group is represented here
Spoke with the librarian
She said she is too busy to find the
time to write
Well, I have some time so
I am sitting down and writing this verse
I post regularly on poetrysoup.com
I have had 5 odes published in the New York Times
Well. I need a new (female) lover
I have prospects
but my messed up
insides require attention
I will make a nice dinner tonight
and pray my stomach will be alright
Her I am at Poets House
Let people scoff!
We versifiers know our real worth
The members of the thousand and one creeds
out there fighting
would do well to visit Poets House
Where one can find peace and poetic masterpieces
from many differnt lands and cultures

People pass by and moonlight causes shadows to
appear in the metropolis
Where are they all going?
I surmise that some are going to see family
while others are going to see lovers
A full moon shines down - paying special attention to
the lovers
In the late evening one can
gaze down upon and contemplate the
masses of people moving through the city
Evening brings rest to a tired metropolis
C'mon poets - pick up a pen
and celebrate urban fantasies
For life in this city continues onward
We versifiers should internalize it
So we can rest easy
Later on.....

So I send out greeings

Keep up your verse!
It is something
which will sustain you
As th whirlwind of time
keeps rushing by
Peace & Love

I DREW A BLANK CONTEST
Sponsor: John Lawless
I sat and began a journal entry.
Songs of doves with white wings
flying into the night came to my
mind. Do doves fly at night? Unknown
to me, I sat under the stars asking the
universe. I saw the reflection of an
eclipse and an answer entered my
mind. Doves bring sparkles from the
sky during the day, yet they bring
simple musings during the dark
hours after the sun sets in the
west. Sparkles of the sun drift and
ignite mystical daystars that float
above the waters of the world.
After dusk they carry meditation
to all the versifiers on the planet.
The poetesses release reflections
as the poets bring forth pondering
for their souls. The doves have to
be white. White signifies the pallid
purity of our essence. There are times
when we may feel dismal, but the
doves liberate heightened freedom
for our expressions. For every kindle
there is a flame of inspiration. For every
ounce of encouragement there is the
whisper of a dove. A white dove.
Soaring throughout the twilight.
