Black and White – 3-18-24
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Black and White
Black and white come in focus -
Absent of prime –
A slice of life exposed through the lens,
A flash-dance of story, a masquerade ball.
No sunrise of sepia - clouds absent of platinum,
Lavender drained from lilacs, sky robbed of blue,
Red-orange stolen from sunsets.
Spindrift frozen like frost,
Candlelight shines undimmed and eternal,
Stark either or – life or not -
In shadows, snow or mountaintops,
Ghosts on boughs of ebony wear gossamer.
Wrinkles and lines banished from smiles of youth
While the lens loves some visages
As eyes without color look back from albums.
Positive to negative. Negative to positive.
Photoplay in wedding smiles or tears of a clown
Moments of the soul held in tenderness
Protected in scrapbooks of black and white.
Mill boy, meets pit girl.
Wool and Iron.
Protection and strength.
Complementing.
Opposites attracting.
The magnetic core pull,
unbreakable.
The outer, nourishing, nurturing.
The perfect balance.
A symmetry.
Loved and loving.
Life shared, family, forever friends,
Vows, distant, but stronger.
Sons, raised, fledged and flying
Dreams realised.
New lives, new dreams.
Hope undimmed.
Love eternal.
Forever us.
In this world where echoes dance and shift,
Lies a tale of metamorphosis, a mystic rift.
Women, once adorned in femininity's grace,
Embrace a transformation, a haunting embrace.
With curious twist, their essence unfolds,
As doppelgangers emerge, their tales untold.
Manes turn rugged, voices deep and strong,
And lactation's gift, an anomaly so long.
In their eyes, a journey of duality blooms,
The yin and yang entwined, casting vibrant plumes.
They stride with a newfound strength, heads held high,
Fulfilling roles reversed, defying reasons why.
Yet amidst this enchantment, let love remain,
A sacred bond that transcends, undimmed by the change.
For though forms transform, souls stay true,
In the realm of doppelgangers, love's colors renew.
I dwell where shadows hide behind your window,
Whispering secrets, silent and unseen,
Or walk alone beneath the rowan tree,
As trees splinter leaves with summer joy.
When the walls of dusk descend, twilight’s descent,
Casting its somber grasp upon the land,
My spirit, deeply entrenched in earthly clay,
Seeks refuge within nature’s divine command.
I bide my time, a thief in the night, to steal your love,
A covert pursuit through the fabric of time and space,
Beyond verdant fields and fertile soil,
Where passion blossoms with enchanting grace.
Here, love is enshrouded within shadowed shores,
A hidden trove, a treasure buried deep in the sand,
Yet within the abyss of longing’s embrace,
Hope persists, forever clutched within my hand.
As the summer sun caresses the foliage with warmth,
Fragmented rays of light frolic in playful delight,
But clouds betray their fleeting mirth,
Concealing the truth that yearns to take flight.
Within this dance of shadows and light,
Love’s quest persists, unyielding, unafraid,
For even through the darkest, starless night,
Eternal ardor burns, undimmed, unswayed.
Self-Existent Light
Beyond the sight of imagination,
Invisible of alpha and omega,
Unseen your non-existent borning daystar
Glory and splendor collide,
Pure sinew of sublimity
Source of ceaseless heartbeats
Flame without source,
Robed in resplendence.
No vacuum!
No space for ebony!
No consummation!
No cradle!
.
Divine edgeless clarity
Perpetual renewal of resplendence -
Wholeness illuminated,
Spring of radiance
Eternity’s original mystery
Needing neither tinder nor spark
Light – essence of the Eternal
Eternally coupled fission and fusion.
Fleshless eternal incandescence
Uncontainable virginal day
Infinite dynamo of electric brightness,
Ceaseless and incorruptible,
Self-contained chalice
Of always,
Chrysalis of incensed endless fuel
Shines from within Perfection.
Pure light
Pure love
Pure font
“Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.” 1Timothy 1:17 of the King James Bible
Forever, the Lord reigns in His glory
Prevailing over pain midst victory
While offering eternal life so dear
Saving us from everlasting fury.
Forever, Christ assures His presence near
Drawing us nigh toward heavenly cheer
As trust He strengthens, smiting fear's worst crease
Meeting needs even beyond prayer sphere.
Forever, the Holy Spirit brings peace
Midst mercy and comfort that will not cease
Assuring believers His faithful light
Since divine Word propels faith to increase.
Forever, God’s light keeps on glowing bright
Never goes undimmed against sin-filled blight
Illumining with truth of wisdom state
For freedom to do what’s serenely right.
Forever, the Saviour’s love remains great
Granting blest forgiveness that conquers hate
Ready to shower grace with blest dowry
Enriching hearts for kindness-driven rate.
All day, if as far, a world
Circles back round again
Oh! That bold vision to regain.
Pursued, undimmed, on shore.
Sympathetically blown along.
Companionably lonesome!
Of what, sea-raised, but wholesome
Haunts a heart evermore.
you ...
were joy
gentle, sweet -
everything beautiful and mild
you devoured my
failings and frailties with soft silence
transformed them to
a tender, trembling music that
warmed my marrow ...
never a complaint or condition
naught but a gaze that
held love, untainted and undimmed,
acceptance, pure, and adoration
so assuredly undeserved ...
to be the silvery
stars in your vault -
the shimmer in your fiery eye -
was a blessing, unbound and precious ...
I was your WORLD,
and for as long as this fatuous
old fool can yet draw
breath, there is nothing
I am, have been, or could be ...
that compares. <3
Though brief, it was a time I’ll always treasure.
Its essence shines, undimmed by fleeting years.
That June was filled with pleasure beyond measure.
First bloom of love was sweetest of premieres.
At summer camp, a boy so cute and funny
became my friend--then boyfriend, very soon.
His brilliant smile made rainy days seem sunny.
His arm around my shoulder made me swoon.
With close of camp and time together pending,
we stole a kiss and promised “Every day,
I’ll call” and “Many letters I’ll be sending.”
Such fervor fourteen-year-olds’ words convey!
Though youth, with its first love and freshness, flees,
we celebrate it through our memories.
We have seen every ghastly act and recorded it.
Yet more grisly deeds yellow in archives
waiting to be resuscitated and refined.
Tyrannosaurus Rex awakes in a drop of amber,
takes a gander, decides to go extinct.
A Dark Net spreads like arsenic and syrup.
Cell phones retweet daily holocausts over donuts.
Evil has friends on Facebook.
The commonplace entertains the unspeakable
as if it were merely an eccentric uncle.
The unborn and the born are culled,
Plague businesses thrive.
There are killings on the market, viral wars
burst spiky eruptions of emojis.
Slave traders operate from strip-malls
owned by chauffeured demons,
while journalists huddle in their alabaster cities
undimmed by human tears.
Pandemonium is the addiction of choice
and the eyes of those in power
glitter in the clear blue sky-dreams
of both the heartless and the homeless.
Drugged you are America,
soon to be sold on an auction block
of your own drugged choosing.
We once sang for you America,
O Beautiful America.
The night is dark and cold and chill
A vision of a starlit sky
A scene of beauty ever still
It reaches past the heavens high
The sparks of light do pierce the dark
A reason to recall a song
Of wonder deep and dim and stark
A moon that watches right and wrong
What secrets now unknown to men
Are kept by light of distant moon
Undimmed by ink or stroke of pen
They creep across like ancient doom
The stars will shine forever on
As symbols in our world of night
They rise in dark to greet the dawn
A messenger that heralds light
Ataxia the Beautiful!
With apologies to Samuel A. Ward
O beautiful for spacious sighs,
No art, fine motor disdain,
For Purple Mountain labilities,
Absolve off tune refrain!
Ataxia! Ataxia! God shed His grace on thee,
'Tis Grace it lacks, Scaring all like pain,
From sea to shining sea!
O Beauty Wife! Compatriot dream,
Who sees beyond the years,
Awkward activities do gleam,
Undimmed by human tears!
Ataxia! Ataxia! God mend thy ev'ry flaw,
Rehab thy soul by self-control,
Cry of self pity? "Naw! "
Wild grasses of my springtime heart unmown,
unruly, unrestrained, in silence grew.
Youth’s fierce infatuation madly blew
its untamed gales where tall, green blades had grown.
Fair birds of transient love have long since flown –
that tale’s dark thread unraveled. Segue to
the stunning, breathless moment I met you
and found the ageless love I’d never known.
As autumn yields to winter, hair recedes
brown-gray, and once-hard muscles dormant lie;
our fathomless love-light remains undimmed.
Spring’s passions redirected, naught impedes
love’s resolute commitment. You and I
adore our beautiful lawn, neatly trimmed.
The vision calls me once again against this restless night
in brilliant strata gems, in timeless dreams of light.
I close my ancient eyes, and there, so long ago
I see the walls that rose above the eventide.
For it was there where we scaled the lofty cliffs
and breached the gates of a grand estate
with rows of high arched windows, fine
and endless rooms of decadence in decline.
His youth, his hair, flowed e’er alive, my heart revived
I followed in his footsteps as we ran among the heights.
Hidden memories we explored, abandoned dusty rooms
we fell into each other’s arms, dancing to a distant tune.
Under the vast eternal sun, my heart was knit
in rapt kinship, time melted in his presence
our days divine, indelible design
were carved for us and us alone.
In random room we laid upon a wooden floor
his strong limbs, my budding breasts
together we explored youth’s sparks
as thick as honey, blossoming to a fragrance.
No other bliss could be like this, I now know
with mirrors in my mind of sunsets’ glow
undimmed by time, I’ll ne’er forget...
...I open ancient eyes with honey on my lips.
There's a star in me
Crushed under my heart
Waiting to escape
To burst through my skin, my shirt
Weeping beams of light
There's a star in me
Who doesn't like whispers
Or subtle hues of blue and grey
But the loudness of shouts
And red amaryllis
There's a star in me
Who doesn't like generic avatars
For Facebook profiles
But wants to be known by its name
Its shine undimmed
