Come, graceful brittlebush
And creamy globe mallow blooms.
The winds of spring call you
Again from the sandy tombs.
Come, you dashing lupine
And join the wingnuts on the hills.
Go and place your annual stake
With them near the trails.
There is room, woolly daisies
And Engelmann's cacti, on the plain.
Come dressed in your best trimmings.
You are favored by the sun.
I will swing by and count you
Among my treasured finds.
Fill my life with flowers
So I know that I'm alive.

Once upon a magical evening an enchanted fairy I happened to see
dressed in a fantastical dress with two dappled wings of lace,
she shone like the midnight sun;
I must confess, she looked rather whimsical
sitting there by a green wooden door, waiting for your lore !
A vibrant purple aura surrounded the magical scene
to me it seemed that I was seeing a fairy queen
I went over and asked her
if I may sit by her side
but she led me through the wooden door painted green.
We were in the trunk of a very large oak tree
where fairies and elves lived together happily
they seemed eager to learn
of my life’s chronicle
so I told them of all the things from my memory.
They all said they had truly enjoyed the reminiscing
and offered me supper with all its trimmings
lots of goodies to eat
a magnificent spread
I ate so much my poor tummy was brimming.
Then they put on some music and we had a dance
the ambience was perfect for a romance
if it’s a purple dream
it’s the best dream I’ve dreamed
‘twas a night to remember, by happenchance.

Bacchus confronts us in a shady place, A tangled grove, and he, astride a cask. Gross limbs and belly, small besotted face, And lips pursed to the uptilted flask. A buxom dryad, white against his tan, Attends him (sturdy spirit o' the trees) ; As free a woman she as he a man, But gracious-limbed enough to please. Sportive, she smoothes his unambrosial hair, And binds a ruddy vine about his brows; A filet fit for marry-makers, where the wild and tendrilled berry grows. But stay, dryad, what need hath Bacchus' head of leafy trimmings ? Twist a leaf or two and wreathe his hardy nudity instead~ Garland him largely, Dryad, do !

Is the weather calm and cool
When good friends remember,
About vinyl from the spool
Joys of Santas’s goodies
When we were small back then,
Mother and her cookies
Six men wiser than a pen.
No sweets sold in the market
Mother made them all,
Beating deadline target
Before the eve would fall.
Tailors were visited by many:
Crowds to get their wears,
There was mummy and granny
With children under their care.
There was a rush of decoration
That filled the streets with gay
Choirs practise their rendition
Before Christmas day.
Midnight saw costumes parade
With lace and trimmings rare,
Gentlemen suited and booted
Walking in style with their pair.
Salons too did brisk business
Ladies to look their best,
Not to show their riches
But for Christmas, to look the best.
Away in the Manger
A little child is laid;
With shepherds and three kings
Outside in a cold promenade.

I stand and stare at the empty branches,
stripped now of all the regalia of Christmas,
naked and sadly alone in my gaze
like the gray day beyond every window.
All the celebrations have been swept to yesterday
like prom decor, bridal rose petals and
melted birthday candles.
The quiet haunts every New Year's day -
no more parties to smother apprehensions,
just sober reality, but, unlike crepe paper
embellishments, aisle runners and cake crumbs,
the tree trimmings will await an encore in
eleven months once more - one more time
one more time ...

The Day After Christmas
It’s the day after Christmas and all round the gaff
Lay the wrappings from presents, both splendid and naff.
Bottles upended and glasses on stairs,
Stains on the carpet, the curtains, the chairs.
Christmas tree fallen and blocking a door.
Bedrooms resounding to thunderous snores.
The remnants of turkey and all of its trimmings
Where e-coli blooms its unnoticed beginnings.
Upon the detritus, all twinkly and bright,
Shine fairy lights, forgotten, left on overnight.
Booze fumes and *** smoke still hang in the air.
It’s a mess that would make the most pious saint swear.
Under the sink on their cheap plastic tray,
Lurk brushes and sponges, the all-surface spray.
For after the fun, the excess celebration
Comes the down-side, the chore, the clean-up operation.
Sanity must be returned to the house
Where nothing’s displaced, not even a mouse.
Was it worth it for one day of party and cheer?
You bet! And we’ll do the same nonsense next year!

Visiting right before Christmas Eve was her favorite Grandma Kay.
Her granddaughter did not notice any presents, but that was okay.
Just being with her grams was enough to delight Little Bitty Moll.
She had no idea the next day the delight she would find in her hall.
Grandma left a tiny suitcase and it had a spring lock.
Moll touched it and it opened, there was a ticking clock.
It had been made into a mini-dollhouse complete with welcome mat.
Grandma Kay! Grandma Kay! Moll yelled, her feet going pitty-pat.
Grandma Kay said “Glad you found it. It was left by Santa in the night.”
Moll said “why didn’t you wake me? I would have stayed out of sight.”
“Santa’s big gift is to be out of the way of children,” Grandma Kay said.
“It was much more delightful that you were snug, asleep in bed.”
Doll house had an upstairs, a downstairs, and a TV console, new.
Baby crib had lacy trimmings and master had Victorian roses too.
Santa is wise! Moll said to Grandma Kay, wondering about his identity.
Loving her doll house which was set up on a chest with a pot of tea.

Six Days of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas my MP had for free:
A partridge with all the trimmings.
It didn’t come from Aldi
On the second day of Christmas my MP had on me:
Two vintage Champagnes, a partridge with all the trimmings
And nothing came from Aldi
On the third day of Christmas my MP had on me:
Three Harrod’s Hampers, two vintage Champagnes,
A partridge with all the trimmings
And nothing came from Aldi.
On the fourth day of Christmas my MP had on me:
Four new suits, three Harrod’s hampers, two vintage champagnes
A partridge with all the trimmings,
And nothing came from Aldi
On the fifth day of Christmas my MP had on me:
Five houses rent free!! four new suits, three Harrod’s hampers,
Two vintage Champagnes, a partridge with all the trimmings
And nothing came from Aldi.
On the sixth day of Christmas the MPs did to me:
Lied through their teeth
Raised inheritance tax,
Froze all the pensioners,
Put thousands out of work
Crippled the economy
Cancelled local elections
Gave 50 million to terrorists
While I ate a sandwich from Aldi.

Excitement filled the air as the calliope played
News spread the famed steamboat was near,
Its whimsical gingerbread trimmings displayed.
The whole town would rush to the esplanade
As the wildly anticipated boat pulled into pier,
Excitement filled the air as the calliope played.
If an overnighter, folks walked the promenade,
Marveling at its size and the exquisite exterior
Its whimsical gingerbread trimmings displayed.
I had heard one could go onboard, if one paid
Even get to see a riverboat show, a premiere.
Excitement filled the air as the calliope played.
What a difference Delta Queen’s arrival made!
Soon she would be decommissioned, the fear
Its whimsical gingerbread trimmings displayed.
I remember well how by the riverbank she lade
Like a fabulous ornate coffin lying upon the bier
Excitement filled the air as the calliope played
Its whimsical gingerbread trimmings displayed.

The name so foreboding, the masses, the hordes
Enticed into debt by toys they can't afford.
Forced to wait hours for bright shiny trinkets;
"A 4 AM sale?" Who even would think it?
Drawn to the malls with the trappings and trimmings
Like moths to a flame, a cliff for the lemmings.
Surely this purchase will fill that great hole,
The empty, the desperate, the lost, lonely souls.
A purchase to relish, a bargain to savor,
Knowing 'twas snatched from the hands of a neighbor!
No, Black Friday highlights the depth of our greed;
A fit start to Advent: the Savior we need.

He loved a drink did ol'Johnny McBeal
And offered to cook the thanksgiving meal
All the trimmings with turkey
For their friends and family
His wife agreed but no drink was the deal...
On the big day he was up before five
But with no drink knew he wouldn't survive
Found a bottle of sherry
Then started to get merry
Guests arrived and the bird was still alive...
Johnnys wife said " you've ruined thanksgiving
The turkeys gobbling and it's still living
There is no main course
I want a divorce
I'm upset and I won't be forgiving"...
She then reached out for a sharp carving knife
Johnny was shaking in fear for his life
She wanted the turkey dead
Who ran out the door and fled
Johnny thought she is one demented wife...
Johnny was determined to save the day
And phoned Mcdonalds for a takeaway
Ten turkey burgers arrived
Ol' Johnny's marriage survived
Then before dinner they knelt down to pray...
And what became of the McBeals turkey?
He was found terrified up in a tree
His poor life was spared
By someone who cared
Now lives in peace in a bird sanctuary...

They've trimmed the tops off trees outside,
Where will the black crows now reside?
Perch upon the remaining stubs up high
To view the cold but clear January sky?
They've trimmed the tops off trees outside,
There's nowhere left for the crows to hide.
Perhaps they'll pepper the park trees left behind
And contemplate why humans are unkind.

Nature's Spring palette and sweet nectar
of bright comfort bathing in the brilliant sunshine. Quote _ by Poet
A vision is the crimson queen rose
newly sprung its unique velvet feel
rosebuds unfold full of scallop trim
green leaflets breathless and infectious
in the gentle balmy breeze bloom shows
long green waxy stem full of prickly
thorns pose vibrant amongst the flowers
Garden trimmings with tiger lilies,
budding pink roses ,tall sunflowers,
golden yellow and white daffodils.
Latticework lavish entanglement
of sweet fragrant jasmine a treasure.
