They've made the Olympics look like a School Sports Day

Rainy Days In Tokyo

i ain’t never been to tokyo

its sunny here it’s probably sunny there too,

i guess

there was a bitter sweet breeze this morning

but it didn’t pause me

on my walk to the train, thoughts of my next step

head phones on, world off

my backpack is filled with things i wouldn’t use on a mountain climb

pay my fare pay my share

but i’m too cheap to pay attention

it’s probably raining in tokyo

i get a knock at my microsleep

“celebrity catches big fish”

so, i click the bait

hooked to useless knowledge i’ve just gained.

2:25 small fee, i’ll just paid attention

routined in this circular maze

but its sunny here,

its probably sunny in tokyo too

Rushing through Tokyo in five days
Thailand is celebrating my birthday 
water fights and fanfare cause dad delay
and I can wander wherever there

7-11 our saviour of midnight snacks
sushi in tokyo is never cheap, we eat
tomorrow is for walks with light packs
13 now in the park celebrating cherry street

the shirt I am wearing is busy
by an artist who left the rest
of us in Tokyo in pieces pressed
too close to see just one piece

The island of the rising sun
The land were work is fun
With tireless proletarians
And boundless trailblazers 
Land where days and hours clock first
Where it is already tomorrow when our sun sets
At the edge of the world 
With a new age for the world 
They break paths for us to maintain
The earth cracks but they build again
Lights never dim in Nihon
Nihon always lives on

On the Tokyo Subway

Tokyo No Chikatetsu

“Godzilla!” the subway sways
bouncing sideways.    quiet.
bonsai ears cultivated,
thoroughfare of sentient earplugs.

jolted, jubilant hilarity

“SHH!” teeth hush too loud
drunken, diabolical boredom

“Godzilla!” with more intensity.
brilliant windows, Japanese
contortionists amuse bad
very bad               Americans

A Yo-Yo In Tokyo

It's easy to lose your bearings in the Bering Sea
Or your yo-yo in Tokyo get what I mean
How about this
Being squished by a fish
The fish needs to apologize, that's totally obscene

Mt Fuji Mountain Bride

You Exude Reverence and Silence
In your wedding gown you adorn the sky
Crisp and white, lacy along your edges, 
Wowing the masses year after year, 
As you wait for your groom.

Something borrowed, something blue, something old,
Blue snow, borrowing your page from your own book.
As you are unique, and people never tire of your freshness.
Old wise ones point you out, marveling at your patience

You exude reverence and silence, adorning the landscape,
Your bridal gown perpetually fresh and clean, virginal.
Cherry Blossom trees, although beautiful,
Dare not whisper of your magnificent loveliness.

Ancient spirits have placed you here to wow 
Generations upon generations of appreciative souls.
Needing no flowers or veil, you dwarf them with your
mystical, magical magnificent presence.

Faeries and angels knew what they were about
When they placed you here, bridging the gap between
earth and sky, spreading awe and faith into the valley
of people who revere and adore you. Mt. Fuji, home.

Tokyo Blues

Welcome to Japan where an Uber costs
two hundred dollars and a can of Spam.
Tokyo — all my pockets it exhausts.
My plane’s just arrived and I’m in a jam.

I turn the spindle and it cuts me — ouch!
I miss the lights and the tree and my wife.
A limo would have taken half my pouch.
I miss her long arms and I miss my life.
