While I work from home
two cats, one black and one beige,
stare in the window
of my small, cozy office...
my orange tabby stands guard.
Three felines reflect
a striking combination
of colors and hues...
and show curiosity,
never confrontational.
Later, at the beach,
I see several children,
white and black and brown,
friendly, playing together...
we can learn from cats and kids.

1/
Clock ticks through cold nights
shades aim long as the light fades—
pages grow flimsy,
the ink of forgotten names
smudges dissolve in stillness.
2/
The rain of spring knows
steps shod on the silky soil—
sighs mirror orchids
their fragrance widens for years
festering yet ephemeral.
3/
Sun shines through summer
Smiles of kids in the landscape—
brilliant and boundless
but even the dazzling fire
fades in the quiet of dusk.

Leaves shed in the fall
a rustling thread each season—
woven in tandem—
time is the loom of our life
fabric of recollection.
He formed as snow blows,
Corncob pipe and button nose,
A hat, magic goes;
“Happy birthday,” they all cheer,
Without the sun, he’ll appear.
A jolly charade,
Broomstick in hand, masquerade,
He led the parade.
Made children smile, all aglow,
His soul lived on with the snow.
His bright conception,
Ran around without notion,
Kids saw the vision.
Frosty waved a quick goodbye,
“I will be back, by and by!”
A KID WISHED FOR SCHOOLDAY
(A TANKA-DUO MESSAGE)
Fun snow day fell today:-
All of the schools had to close down
For home school snow day:-
Happy kids had so much fun:
Their monitors had meltdowns:-
What a good snow day!
Jesus had to walk the waters!:
Monitors, the snow:-
The kids were home, safe and sound:
Monitors’ eyes watching snow:-
peacemaker held off,
let them fight, that's what kids do.
I'll back the winner,
demand a truce, when it's done.
peace will rise from the ashes
POND QUEEN
Ducks may rule the pond,
but there's a lily pad throne
where a queen frog sits.
while rock-throwing kids scare ducks,
the frog queen quietly sits there:-
nicknames for three kids
Perky Pink, Road Runner and
Sailor Girl. in blink
of eye, gone and forgotten
will they even remember
how first i saw them
in hawaiian paradise
personalities
between Pearl Harbor sailing
and home life with pen in hand
a real pen not much
time to let ink imagine
with work and salutes
pretty and cute and active
might kids care to find
the scrawls of my heart
and penmanship less shaky
would the nuns be proud
in true days of motherhood

kids all playing ball
old friends laughing of old times
couples holding hands
a lone man sits wandering
face dried of tears dons a smile
II: ? Resolve
white black gray gloaming
sepulchral downpour stormy
amorphous rainbow
hospitals overflowing
clans gangs groups leagues board news crew
III: ? Resolve
days they brought the guns
feeds the rich buries the poor
days they brought roses
scriptures says rumors of war
news media says the same
my kids once called me
the walking problem solver
~ I am the problem
they are to resolve ~ failure
I lose ~ objectives they win
took them to the breast
fed them with love…tenderness
joy in triplicate
they won’t remember kindness
so private and personal
with kids of their own
milk flows to their very bones
bare naked to wise
a grown woman’s pure pleasure
and a husband’s jealousy
My nephew Sammy
is sweet, smart, and talented.
Three dogs are his “kids”
whose ears get dyed cute colors.
They go everywhere with him.
My nephew came out
about the fact he is gay
on his Facebook page.
I’m sure his announcement was
was no surprise to anyone!
lala land’s not Word
Job had his share of problems
emotions full blast
lost his kids, cattle, health…hence
his wife and friends made things worse
gratefulness is found in the midst of gorillas - hammering the chest
too-da-loo Christmas
two kids in tow Buffalo
grandpa won’t be there
left the gifts in Poughkeepsie
where faerie lights will not glow
