the lady in red
head to toe
green with envy
at the leprechaun’s gold
tracking his every move

angel all in white
sits atop the silent night
year’s coming to end
Christmas tree-dress still pretty
silver garland winding down

the flames entangle
they bob and weave underneath

December Toils of Travels

Hurt of holidays,
December vacation daze
From toils and travails
Of tense, maddening travels,
Remorse on return, mind blasé.

Poet’s note: Some social visits this December following deaths in family, travelling to and from and under stress, body feeling tired, and mind when meanders in thoughts…I recall, even in youth sometimes holidays feeling like holidaze what with all the journey ending with sightseeing, one keen to get most of vacation time. I am sure, many a travel-returnee must be wondering if holidays were well their worth, with frantic travels turning into travails and toils.

New Year Future

Fast-forward, my friend
and New Year’s Eve is over,
let’s sing Auld Lang Syne
as the clock strikes and bells chime
and step into the future.

Tanka 003

sorrow hugs my heart
fall’s breath rancid with her jeers
        my esteemed neighbour
        battles winter’s icy fog
to bring a fancy xmas card

Lonesome Holiday

a cold wind blowing
a man tries to hug himself
he's invited in
he has a drink with some friends
though his small shack is empty

Thanks Mom

mom's homemade stuffing
turkey, gravy, potatoes
it smelled delicious
family meals meant so much
without mom, it's not the same

orchards now barren
scent of hibernating leaves
nutcracker on guard
a long ride to grandma’s house

Praises to God on
Fourth Thursday in November;
Grateful and thankful.
Family quality time
Gluttony is a sin? Huh?
Please, save me a turkey leg!

Thanksgiving Together

Chopping potatoes
Basting the golden turkey
With my family
Magic happens in the Fall
Holidays unite us all

The Best Holiday

I love holidays.
I love Thanksgiving the most.
I love the turkey.
I love spending time with friends.
These are why it is the best.

Happy Thanksgiving

I love Thanksgiving.
it is the best holiday.
All the yummy food,
from the pumpkin pie to corn,
but best is my family.
