Tab 8
The summer pains will
Go away; and once winter breaks
Problems become numb
The snow and cold air
Soothe your sunburns, and the lake
Of your mind freezes in the mint
For the first time in
A while, even though your nose
Is red- there is peace
But the harsh winds get
Repetitive over time
You crave the sunlight
And when you know
It is time to step into
The light- and start (a)new

A Place to Remember
A wooden rocker remembers summer
Building sandcastles on distant sands
Wet towels, sunburns, sandy feet
Fireworks - s'mores; summer stars - barbecues -
Lullabies sung in its lap.

Brainstorm
faith’s open palms
vigilant in drought
sunburns brighter, moonshines boozy
grinning
Rainstorm
rustling the leaves
slurry stirred by lightning
overindulging town prayers
applause

Song of the Four Seasons 2-16-24
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Song of the Four Seasons
Jagged steel gray skies
Compose barren bough sculptures
Midnight days, Orion nights
White fire crystal symphonies.
Spring wriggles adagio toes,
Sunbeams thaw tuneless meadows,
Daffodils dream yellow melodies
Blossoms burst fragrant ballads.
Downbeats of summer rainstorms
Silver sonatas of moonlight
Heat rises in crescendos,
Cool waves soothe sunburns.
Scarlet scatters leafy notes,
Crisp sapphire skies motifs,
Harvest chorales of harmonies
Harbingers in orange transitions.
SUMMERTIME
Summertime, most glorious time, short lived
intense season, in which God’s glorified.
Nature is firing on all cylinders,
flora, fauna flourishing … not denied.
Time to savor fresh air, breath barefooted,
notice, clear babbling brooks calming sound.
The multitude of fragrances in air,
summer rainbows and thunderstorms … abound.
Summer, offers variety things do,
time to fire up the grill.
Time to stroll shore as sun starts to slumber,
brilliant flaming hues … all part of God’s will.
Summer has included sunburns, sunglasses,
including shock … received a few passes.
pastel June roses
afternoon picnic baskets
hiking a mountain meadow
the wanderlust thirst
as open as the ocean
beneath a fair freckled sky
drunk on sunshine wine
sunburns and blistered noses
sticky glazed humidity
crowds of rowdy kids
traffic congested beaches
August comes, longing for fall
I will always
I will love you as long as the sunburns in the sky,
I will love you as long as the moon shines its light into the dark night,
I will love you until the raging blue oceans become calm and runs dry,
I will love you until the end of time
I will love you for eternity and even there after.
After the sun has shone
the sky has turned to night
Just know that your not alone
As long as you continue to shine bright
Yesterday I turned thirteen
Welcome to teenage, they said
A new adventure
A new journey
Almost a lady
I am independent
I will be free
And today I turned nineteen
And I am still there
I am still here,
Like a tide
From the sea of my heart
Years are washed away
But the imprints stayed
For they were not made on sand
But on my soul
Sunrays are yet to fall
On my independent self
But
Today I thank my skin,
For taking acne scars
Sunburns
kisses
And tears
I thank my heart,
For pausing
At all
Or working extra hard
When he smiled
I am yet to fall in love
And when I will,
I will fall extra hard
To be covered with enough bruises
Also,
I thank my brain for Memories
Memorable enough to carry
Through the rest of journey
Perhaps also after that,
Not all were pleasant
Yet all were new
And sometimes we seek ‘new’Desperately
For experiences,
And
Lastly, I thank myself
For sticking around
I am yet to discover
more Shine more
And believe more,
Welcome to adulthood They say.
The Washington Sunburns can't play
With COVID-19 in the way
But those in the pink
May go to the clink
If God's little children hold sway!
This farmer’s porch wraps up the house,
pitching shade along all four sides,
with simple posts and long, flat spans,
and pressure-treated floor-boards, wide.
My wife may have gotten closets,
decorated the inside space,
but this long porch is my retreat,
I’m better in an outdoor place.
The north-face has a clear-cut slope,
an open spot amongst the trees,
the west-side features my kid’s yard,
and often catches zephyr’s breeze.
The south faces road and river,
a rock-chocked stream with flowing sound,
the east-side is close to tall trees,
an ideal place for cooling down.
On rainy days I sit out here,
enjoy the mists but don’t get wet,
on sunny days I sit out here,
avoid the sunburns some folks get.
With hammock and chair here and there,
I can relax as things pass by,
have read Tolstoy out on this porch,
and westerns where the bullets fly.
It may seem quite bizarre to some,
to write of pleasures a porch brings,
but the more I sit out I see
that life is made by little things…
I’m sick of needing to choose
Between grass stains and sunburns
All the kids these days think
It’s cool to drink alcohol and sit
In the back seat of limousines.
My dad always told me when
He was young he played with sticks
And rocks and partied hard,
Drove to Tijuana on the weekends
Back when the world was a safer
Place, a blanketed bed soaked
In warmth, but still cold when that
Was needed. I wish we still owned
Box TVs and hot wheel cars
Not these joke cell phones and
Drugs from off the street.
I guess I’m tired of watching all my
Friends turn purple or green
And laying on the bedroom floor
Of some fool they’ve never even seen
I wish kids these days appreciated
Paper and still climbed trees,
Let the sun tell them when
Bedtime was so they could count
Every sheep, sleep
Right through their alarm clocks
And into the daytime.
ice on my knees
heating pads on my back
splinters in the soles of my feet
cuts and bruises on each arm from shoulder to back hand
blisters on each toe
sunburns on my forehead and each of my cheeks
toothpicks holding both eyelids open
sneezing and coughing continuously till bedtime
tomorrow i get up and do it again
i am a celebrity to those who love me
that is all i need for full pain relief
When we were young
Summer stretched
In brilliant splendor
As the last school bell tolled
We spilled forth from
School marm’s arms
And greeted freedom
In the jeweled waters
of beach and stream
With picnics, sunburns
And warm summer nights
In tents
Listening drowsily to the cicadas song
