The Fall of Summer

pastel June roses
afternoon picnic baskets
hiking a mountain meadow
the wanderlust thirst
as open as the ocean
beneath a fair freckled sky

drunk on sunshine wine
sunburns and blistered noses
sticky glazed humidity
crowds of rowdy kids
traffic congested beaches
August comes, longing for fall

Michelle, love your wordplay in the title, not to mention your usual array of delectable phrasing ("fair freckled sky" and "sticky glazed humidity" to name two favorites). Yes, eventually the heat wears us down and we long for Fall, but one could argue that each season has its down side, and the heart is prone to yearn for whatever comes next. Lovely writing, artistry sib - congrats for the POTD! ~ John

True! And so lovely as you have so excellently selected summer’s iconic scenes. I love your “freckled sky!” P.s. I’ve had a horrid year health-wise, lacking the strength to tap-tap my keyboard after getting set the poems that came/mental ok, but body unable. Have truly missed you! & your poems! HUGS!

He I think knew that 3 months for each season was more than enough, He knows about all the kids and as we grow into adults . It gets so hot towards the end of Summer that we long for Autumn and cooler days. Well penned my friend, Blessings, hugs, Jennifer. WOW Michelle, I see POTD and there huge congratulation due - always a great honor to be chosen. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

Dear Michelle, you've described the season of summer in such a sensational way. The images you paint are so vivid and creative. I completely agree, after enduring the sultry heat; a cooler temp is more than welcomed. I'm placing this in my favorites, to read again and again. Congratulations my sweet friend, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. :) Hugs, Brandy

A lovely summer Sedoka Michelle, lots to see and do, but there’s the other side too when it all gets too hot and uncomfortable. You said it well. Congratulations on receiving the honour of poem of the day… Belle
