Billy no longer needed his hood for the rain
She had stopped ten minutes ago
But his yellow slicker felt comfortable around his face
He trudged through the overly tall grasses toward school
It was March, so rain could come again in a rush
Possibly a monsoon with thirty-mile an hour winds
He was not experienced like his Des Moines Grandpa
But he knew about March- in like a lion, out like a lamb
Were those white flowers called daffodils?
Daffodils were the first ones up in spring
The leaders of the band
He smiled as he thought of warmer weather
a young professor doing research
my grasp of truth
was quick to form
and
i began
my earnest search
for a one-horned unicorn
so
i put on a yellow slicker
and
i went out in the storm
but
the weather got much thicker
and i missed the unicorn
it was like
reaching for a rose
and finding a cutting thorn
i cried
and blew my streaming nose
and missed my unicorn
then
a cat in striped pajamas
his outfit so elegantly worn
said
look in the Bahamas
you'll find your unicorn
i no longer care a fig
and I'm no longer forlorn
because
i've seen a swimming pig
i don't need a unicorn
Yellow Words—Used 10 times in the poem
Under the warm yellow sun
floating on the calm Yellow Sea
fishing for the sweet tasting yellow fin tuna.
My mouth waters at the thought of
tuna steaks slathered in spicy yellow mustard
while my old yellow lab snoozing on
my bright yellow rain slicker will have his share covered
in a yellow egg yolk sauce.
I tie the yellow lure to the leader anticipating
a rugged fight with the ferocious tuna.
A wayward yellow canary, blown to sea by the wind,
lands on my cabin roof. Perhaps I will have good luck.
I wear my yellow tinted sunglasses and look to starboard as
I prepare to stalk the elusive tuna.
Little girl, Sunday
through christening water
Little woman, Monday
through marring rain —
and motions
the berg slicker —
fear the approaching snow
their heart reign;
together a frozen chord
felt by a crowd —
she's chilly;
these arms hugged her prayers.
Then and now clairsentience,
frost scathes my eyes
before knees ever make
ground.
Memory Poem In Apartment A - 1971
a brace of wine glasses standing tall on a kitchen table
greasy frying pan luxuriating immodestly in the kitchen sink
two forks and two knives bathing naked in the steamy water
vinyl black record spinning clockwise under a cool ceiling fan
music by beethoven caressing the hour with perfume sounds
clock on the television console ticking with slicker love-bites
purple pleated pillow breathing excitedly on a big green sofa
portraits of curious dead people peeping through glass frames
bowl of red fruit sitting ripe and ready on an oak dining table
wide open window allowing a red sunset through shy curtains
bathroom faucet in pink bathroom dripping rivulets of sweat
silent resplendent wall mirror staring with secret fascinations
a brace of wine glasses standing tall on a kitchen table
A Proven Fact
Miracle Man

Politicians will lie,
to hold on to their power.
But in election years,
they’ve learned how to cower.
They couldn’t care less,
about the rank and file.
Though they’ll face a camera,
and flash you a smile.
They pass out some freebies,
and each other backbite.
Many have managed,
to overstay their invite.
Some admit they’ve never,
worked an actual job.
Most are slicker than Teflon,
on a glass door knob.
But all aren’t this way,
though I’m seeming to rush.
To paint all politicians,
with the same brush.
Democrat and Republican,
They can’t get along.
And when congress is convened,
it’s the next verse of song.
how absurd…an owl,
wearing a night cap…the fowl
an audience howl
owl downs his liquor
his entertainment slicker
audience snicker
in midst, a jeerer
a foul audience nearer
here comes the sheerer
this owl on huge bough
seriously satisfied
resting one big eye
trees have been silenced
feathers like Autumn leaves float
owl is on retreat
owl dreams as bough shakes
he’s trying out sick routine
laughing to himself
There are those who
Are after red roses
that’s what appeals to their noses
Though violets are blue
they just will not do
Give her champagne
and she dozes
Because candy is dandy
flowers take hours
but liquor is quicker
With liquor is slicker,
Her senses grew quicker,
Champagne’s magic is all that was due.

Donald Duck got rained on plenty hard that day
His yellow slicker was wet every which way
We saw him standing there, beside Hamil’s Bay.
Waved to him too, said my cousin May.
Was he wearing a rain hat I asked with concern.
He did, but he still has a lot about women to learn.
He is waiting for Daisy, who has given up hope.
She has run off and gotten married, far away from this dope.
We have a new dog and we call her UCAP
Interesting, I say, does she chase tail and nap?
She doesn’t do anything other dogs do.
Actually, and her bark sounds more like a moo.
I did not meet UCAP that night, it was late
but opened my eye the next day to a crazy fate.
The dog looked more like a cow, had an udder too
Now I knew why this dog did not bark, yet said moo
Pardon me, I said, but this dog is a cow.
Couldn’t be said the city slicker, not knowing how…
They could have paid the pet shop for a dog but instead
Brought home an enormous beast who liked being grain-fed.
What does UCAP Stand for? I asked them, interested now.
Up close and personal, and you are right, she might be a cow.
Up close and personal loved living in the house with these two.
When I left I heard another loud bellowing moo.
Shivers of pain trigger my pen
To write and write
Till I forget this yen
To cry aloud
Slivers of pain snig ger at me
To fight and fight
Till I forget to see
The dark grey cloud
Rivers of pain slicker than rain
They smite and smite
Till I see red in my brain
No tears allowed
Quivers of pain flicker through me
They bite and bite
Till I see black in the sea
In anguish bowed

(No one should get ear pain, ever)
Good morning - today, I share the secrets of the great eastern poets. Here’s how to write fancy:
senryu, haiku:
first, centers on you; second,
hike you stay out of
to write a monoku, start with a haiku and put it on one line
a crystalline is a monoku
that rhymes when broken into two
it can’t be hard
to string together
a questionku, can it?
split
seventeen
syllables up like
this to get the oddquain
form
Or, as Bubba woud say, you’ll be:
sliding several
syllabic slippery slopes
slicker than snail snot
----------
tongue-in-cheek, of course - one could spend a life on these forms and not get them, but Bubba's still learning the ropes... :-)
Presumptuous
City slicker, soul breaker
Night hawker, headhunter
Fire starter, mayhem maker
Risk taker, maniacal monster
Forecast reader, global disorder
Bogus soothsayer, dreams slayer!
