Postcard perfect- a picturesque town
Where the locals come to wind down
A hidden gem, a park of simplesse
An oasis, heavenly, it's beauty bequests
An art form to behold, a sculpture; nature's showpiece
Serene and tranquil in the heart of the city
A stream lined with a plethora of trees
Every color showcased upon their leaves
A vast variety, Each the opposite from the last
No comparison, within it's contrast
Harmoniously standing together
A strength against stormy weather
Surrounded by majestic abodes
So grand, each and all, becoming stories told
A backdrop- regal mountains- not seen before
Only Nature could compose such a musical score

We showcased our hearts and wounds to each other in hopes we would stick around to see better shapes.
I didn't get to trace all of you with my fingertips, unfortunately you shredded some pages that you tore out of our book and kept not all the details in one place.
But the story of us can't exactly be erased.
You see, the narrative I have is right in front of your face.
I guess it goes to show I took us more seriously.
Maybe I was actually a placeholder for her.
And you can twist the words and dim the light on my growth.
But don't forget that I am a moonflower, and I grow at night in the darkest of the hours.

A Warrior in Conceal.
In a room stands tall a mirror clear,
Revealing a reflection that deceived the world with a smile.
When I recognized it, my eyes poured out a tear,
And it was clear that the reflection was mine all the while.
It asks my nights of silent tears and struggle,
To expose the truth my false smile would never reveal.
It showcased the unspoken love under my heart's rubble,
And unveiled all my wounds that time could never heal.
My reflection speaks: "Accept and learn to heal,
Don’t run or hide, but face the wounds you bear.
I'm proud of you, a warrior through conceal,
For in your heart, gain strength to face despair.
Next time you stand before me, let me feel
A reflection, freed from past wounds, and completely healed."

The crimson line of a fiery sunset
settles over pillows of billowing clouds
a last flicker of heaven, showcased
before darkness engulfs the stage
while the ever watchful eyes of angels
spread their wings over sleeping babes.

The dance recital showcased
Hip-hop, jazz and yes, ballet.
The costumes and the music
Put much talent on display.
From pre-schoolers up to college,
All their hard work guaranteed
That they’d entertain us beautifully
And they sure did, indeed.
We were focused on our grandchild
And she nailed her every move,
Smiling ear to ear as we were
Watching her get in the groove.
For my first time in the theater
Since we first felt Covid’s bite,
I was thrilled with this production,
Such an absolute delight.

She sat in silence, whittling wood,
Creating magic with her hands,
Here she couldn't be misunderstood,
Carving charming pieces on stands,
Fulfilling customer demands;
She carved serenely, working hard,
Chipping away those needless bits,
Making art out of something marred,
This showcased her finesse and wits,
She loved her work, wouldn’t call it quits;
With this job, she couldn’t make ends meet,
But she rose to the occasion,
Pouring her heart into each feat
With skill and perfect equation,
She persevered with persuasion;
She had the courage to dream on,
Toiling with the sweat of her brow,
Soon she saw the glow of the dawn,
Her artefacts are famous now,
Her diligence paid off and how!

Aunt Bonnie’s garden showcased showy orchid-like irises --
beds of “flags,” a feast for the eyes, produced rainbows of color
yellow, purple, orange, bronzes.
She did not know her irises took their real name
from a Greek goddess, Iris, goddess of the rainbow,
Her glorious "flags" fluttered wildly for all who came
oogling and aahing, admiring shimmering vibrant multi-colors
Born, as they were, from sturdy bulbous tubers buried shallow
in late fall, hibernating through bitter cold, coming alive
May to September in splendorous array.

Hidden behind a loveless lie
An institution held up so high
Predefined wrongs and predefined rights
Them, trapped inside a showcased life
They say in heaven a match is made
And will of God a man obeys
No matter what, the toll it takes
They must endure for culture’s sake
If love is lost, they shall not crave
And if they do, they must be saved
A sin to long, the pain to stay
A truth ignored till it fades away
And thus the years, they pass them by
Hidden tears and force-full smiles
Two lives, two stories and wasted time
In the righteous life of a loveless lie.
