Darkness falls in the habitat

lush from furious rain the darkness

and sparks fly up from the underbrush
floating

The Leopard
Camouflaged
Hiding in the underbrush
Inching forward
Silently on padded paws,
The leopard stalks its prey.

Wild blooms
vivid with hue
and a teasing perfume.
Captivates ravenous insects
lured instinctively through thick underbrush
for a fulfilling thirst quencher.

From a Tiny and Bright Orange Flower In the Woods
Hark! Don’t forsake me.
Search for me.
Look down low, in the underbrush.
I will be good for you.
Though I’ve been given just a little of our endless world,
I have the glowing fire of raging cordilleras,
The blazing sunsets of Equatorial skies,
The lustrous skin of succulent citrus.
I am orange truth....

Premium Member Months of Moments
What was I up to while we were locked-in?
I was busy contemplating sin.
I had months and months of moments to spend,
Ms chaste without, misdeeds within.

Lust, like seasickness - upends reason
and it burns like underbrush fuel.
So dust my DNA, and ID my dirty dreamin'
am I guilty of breaking some rule?...

Premium Member Morels Show Themselves
The woods were wet; there was a smell of anticipation that we only smell in August. My feet sunk down into the damp wet leaves, and I began to feel the morels, watching me, taunting me. I could taste them before I found two large enough to pick.

damp and gingerly
quite deep in the underbrush
morels show themselves...

Moth
Cradled in the underbrush,
a chrysalis emerging
a wide winged serpent,
urgent and searching
for a patch of light
behind a green curtain
so he can try to dry
somehow he knows its worth the burden

He may not catch somebody's eye
but in a moment he'll fly
in hind sight you might say he's broken
but i say he's bright...

The Rose and the Weed
An immaculate beauty, silken petals of crimson tone, so delicate and bold.

The naked eye she bewitches.

Her scent, heavenly, perfumed aroma everlasting.

There is no comparison to a rose.

In a field of evergreen, lush jade shades, I am the dandelion hidden among the underbrush

I am the weed among their existence....

Let Us Beware
Awakening at dusk to feed
Its feral, greedy hunger need

Its beady eyes a'glistening
Big ears always a'listening

Creeps silently through underbrush
Can move with unsuspecting rush

Hiding, stalking as if prey
It jumps out when you look away

So if you find this beast beware
Don't underestimate the hare

Feral footprints awaken underbrush of forests pensive
   Random pitter-patter through twilight's misdirection
Aching winds, intimate branches stir, questing homeward
Anguished rains, ere stifling seasons muffle senses...

Tender seas toss lucky lovers sun-drenched kisses
Waves so gently crescendo, drawing destiny
      to Silky Streams of Sentience...

Insect Part Three
Insect Part Three

Once there was a forest of the night
Vegetation underbrush so thick
Little creatures walk around in it
Never in a straight line
One bug in particular stood out
Antennae moving north and south
It had something in its mouth
Perhaps another nasty insect trying to escape
Once there was a forest of the night
No light got in no life got out...

For You Nicole
FOR YOU NICOLE

The night the blood on the sod
Looks your birthday apron that
Wipes off a murderer's sweat.

Hands besmeared with slime,
Smell of putrid snick,maniac
Who has to inherit a corner of
Underbrush,Nicole, to lie
On your cold lips.

Spring Morn
The wind is whistling
A beautiful sound to me
As I stand in the meadow

Baby birds chirping
As they sit in their twig nest
Which crunches as they stagger

The stream is trickling
Down the tranquil mountainside
As it carves out its design

Mice are scampering
In the quiet underbrush
While returning home.

Now the crunch of grass
Is under my wet sneakers
As I return to the town...

Whispering Wind
Standing amid the forest trees
I feel so insignificant.
Small and unimportant can be
Very humbling among the plants
And underbrush that are dwarfed by
The regal, deciduous trees.
Quiet is defined by the sigh
Of the wind breathing through the leaves
And serenity thrives beneath
This lushest leaf-green canopy.
I walk along an ancient path
Once tread by aborigines.
Then, out of the blue, the soft wind
Whispered,” you're home again my friend.”...

Sportsmanship
An innocent game of release
made dirty by a devious trick
devised by Sean’s older brother, Brandon.
                        “Guys, we give up!”
                            he yelled.
            The treeline bustled with life
as kids emerged from the woods;
Cubscouts crawled from the underbrush--
“Just kidding!”
            he added as he tagged
the bewildered players
against their protests....

My Wonderland
Tree canopy
Thick and green
Full of singing birds
And chattering monkeys.

Thick underbrush
Rustles at a touch
Be careful what you eat
It could be deadly.

Rushing rivers flow
Thousands of plants grow
Animals right where you can’t see
A wonderland to me.

A distant whirring sound
A tree drops to the ground
Where I once heard monkey’s chatter
Now I hear machine’s clatter

Chop Chop Chopping
More illegal logging
Don’t they understand
This is my wonderland?...

One Leaf
Wind takes the first leaf
from a tree and it lets it fall.
Leaves that lie out on ground
and the tree cares not at all

for the loss of two or three
the branch sounds no alarm
plentiful are the leaves
their loss brings it no harm.

When the winter’s chill is gone
the stems will bud again?
Leafs will grow eternally
trees never see their end.

I have wondered woods of green
through underbrush and leaves
and littered every where it seems
are trunks of old dead trees....
