Story of my life in ten lines Poetry Contest
Silent One sponsor
The maw of the whorl
The myth of the whore
The mouth of the world
The moth of the wind
The mother of the wolf
The monster of the wild
The mountain of the white
The measure of the wise
The memory of the wicked
The making of the whole
A five word line rhyme.
No more than ten lines.
This may take some time,
but it will be fine,
the winner won't be mine.
This rhyme is a crime,
not one that is sublime,
the lemon without the lime,
I'm already on line nine,
the bell can now chime.
As fog shrouds the house
Raindrops pitapaters
From roof onto ground
Rain lingers on the tip
Of French Tarragon
So my tears cling to
Cheek this early morn
On the porch quiet
Opens door to sorrow
But soon sun will shine

Each line started with I am, and there were ten lines.
I needed less than a minute.
I am creative.
I am an artist.
I am a poet.
I am a cartoonist.
I am a dog-lover.
I am a grandmother of ten.
I am fun.
I am happy to be alive today.
I am grateful to my friends.
I am me.
On the twelfth day of Christmas,
My true love penned for me:
Twelve odes quatrain-ing
Eleven haiku chain-ing
Ten lines dizain-ing
Nine rhymes a'riddling
Eight tongues a’twisting
Seven tyburns burning
Six trifalls falling
Five etherees
Four appalling puns
Three French songs
Two terza rima
And a pantoum
as a parody.

trickled
quietly,
a fresh sweet stream,
then gushed with glee through
my youth; meeting my mate,
I joined with him to become
a parent river. Steadily
we flow, sometimes over rocks, rushing
to our finality - the endless sea.

Ten short lines: a mite succinct
To get a poem writ and inked.
It takes a certain type of mind
To get one’s thoughts in space confined.
For one who likes to write in verse
And isn’t used to being terse,
Such limits serve to strike a dare –
Compose concisely, or despair!
Despite some stress, I found relief:
For here’s my poem - it’s ten lines brief!
Drawn to her chants
we run to her
rhythmic is her mood
in all her glory
we walk with her
fluid is her grace
her steely blues
are dreamy today
sharing spheres of giving light ~
meditative is our spirit and haunting is her song.

Thinking we could make Adelaide
The wind was hard abeam
Making a full hellish scream
New course need be struck
Fast decision must be made
For my ship the SeaMaid

Tonight, while the bride
Walks down the isle to her
Awaiting groom. Her lips twist
upwards into a smile so sweet.
How could he be so lucky, as to
get a bride as beautiful as she is.

and so on and so forth. The poem will in end will have fifty-five syllables.
I walk in the garden with the Lord alone
and feel his great love, everlasting and true
with compassion and grace, He calls me His own
my Savior, my Refuge, in Him I am new
I admire the garden, the beauty within
the hope of eternity, freedom from sin
the birds fall silent, hearing His song of love
my time in the garden, like hope from a dove
