Element Earth

It is the home
to all two-legged, four-legged,
scaly, and crawlers.

It is the only element
where water, fire
and air assemble,
creating the rhythm
of life....

Mermaid

Swimming around in the open sea,
wouldn't that be..
beautiful?!
Having only fins for feet,
no defeat!
Being colorful, being so scaly.
Swimming around in the open sea,
wouldn't that be?

Feeding Time

Flipping,
flopping,
flashes of blue,
fish school.

Sunlight shines from the surface
showing scaly faces,
subtle currents flow,
swimming with fluttering fins,
fish nibble food from below.

Footnotes

i have several feet

stinky feet
dry feet
sweaty feet
scaly feet
aching feet
flat feet
and barking dog-tired feet

it just does not seem right
that they are all attached
to the same toes

Lion/Dragon

Slip through the cracks of the jungle,
Crawl onto the innocent,
Slither through the liquid,
Scaly snake of folklore tales.
Maim and kill the men,
Of which God made first,
They'll kill the Lion/Dragon,
Before the next verse.

Swimming In the Lake

I've pictured myself in the woods with the
tall trees,
sparkling lakes,
crumbled leaves,
and dirtied flakes.
I've pictured myself swimming in that lake with the
scaly fish,
splash and splish,
and mud and mire
within the water empire.

An Untitled Triad of Haikus

As the tide rushes
forward, brown -black seaweed strands
wrap the graceless leg.

Silver scaly fish
catch the glister of the sun
as silken drops of sea

slide off the pallid
hand lifting to wave to those
on the retreating shore.

Woke Up With a Lizard Tail Today

I woke up with a lizard tail today
Surprised? Not really. I have been in a bad mood for a while
It was scaly but cute
I was in awe of it at first
Until I realized how difficult it is to maneuver around a human toilet
Why me? I said to the cosmos.
Why is it always me?

Backdoor Guest

It entered by the backdoor
it entered by the front door
it entered by the window
it has come to stay
the backdoor guest is here
it’s eyes are blue
its fingers full of thorns
its head is metallic
its belly is elastic
its skin is scaly
but carries bags of death
on its back

I Have My Grandmas Hands

I have my grandma’s hands
Polka dotted, wrinkled, silly looking
Skin barely covering the blue veins
There is a snake-like scaly look to them
Plethora of wrinkles and bumps
With a jolt I realize she died at sixty-two
I thought she was old
Brings me to a shocking perspective
As I am seventy-two

The Forbidden Apple.

Like a scaly, slithering, serpent
You sneak your way back into my life.
Trying childishly to coaxingly, communicate
one more time.

I will listen to your tales told.
I will not be pulled in.
I am that not naive.
I’m numb.
I know the hateful and horrible things you do.
Afterall, look what you did to Eve.

The Calling of the Disciples

Dont look upon me Stork Christ, please!
Scatter! I among the many flee,
Down into the darkened leaves.

Pierced his side, my neighbor's squeak,
Skewered 'long the Holy Beak,
Glory to the chosen Meek!

Feel with relief my scaly coat,
Spared the path of which the Gospels wrote
Cast and gobbled down His throat.

she'z gotta go

.

         "and how would you
            have me tell her"

               her mane iz
                  tatter'd
                    daily
              sheath scaly
           breath atrocious
              her clothing
          un-contemporary

       "she's your daughter
                   boss"

widow witchs unlucky brother

Widow witch’s olive elixir all in
mystical bam for scaly itchy old skin
therapeutic in a Halloween way
best skin remedy of all back in the day

widow took out cauldron and gave a chant
wizard brother transmogrified into a teeny ant
other animals disappeared from view
I would not have stayed around, would have you?

The Zoo

I went to the the zoo just the other day,
and all I saw were the animals at play.
There were,
the big brown bears,
the tangerine tigers,
swinging, swaying monkeys,
the scaly fish underwater,
the black and white penguins,
and a bunch of sweet fair treats entering
through the bunch of little smiles
whose eyes were gazing
at the zoo animals.

The Grim Reaper

The dreary equalizer of all,
Who meets short and tall,
Who doesn’t care if you’re younger
O(r elder, He’s the Grim Reaper.

With thy finger so cold and scaly,
Oh great old one, I bow down to thee,
For you have visited me once before,
But alas, you couldn’t take my soul.

You can not kill what is already dead,
And death is all I have inside my head.

Chamaeleon

I came across you in the desert one day
with your big bulging eyes, scaly armour,
don't know why you panicked and turned a dark grey,
since Culture Club sang you were calmer.
I'd love to have seen other colours you do
from sky blue to grass green, muddy brown,
but you crawled round and round on my patterned beach towel
and suffered a nervous breakdown.

Befriending the Beast

Jabberwock, oh jabberwock, how misunderstood you are
Fierce men come by to steal your head, but only leave a scar.

you yearn not for blood, but love I think,
a scratch beneath your chin.

But when men arrive with swords
you fight them on a whim.

Ignorant they are, dear wocky, scaly beast,
can't blame you now, my jabby friend, for making them your feast.

Moon In Sun

Is sunset
But don’t lose hope
That the sun is going down
Leaving your skin scaly with
scars and spots
All for a while
The moon is coming up
Even with stars
Is night time
The cloud has covered the
moon
Leaving you with no traces
of the stars
Remember, is sun rising
Softly it comes with nutrients
for your skin
And the cloud will be gone
Is it forever?

Snake

slithering slither
through the tall grass
stocking his prey

slithering slither
under the ground
building a home

slithering slither
over rocks and soil
shedding his scaly
slimy skin

slithering slither
on moss and trees
hearing a noise of
his predator

slithering slither
fast as he can
and snatch

wiggling
shaking
now in the claws
of a mighty owl

Childhood Fright

As a little boy
At night
I feared and trembled
to turn out the bedroom light
lest the bogeyman
or some other monster
(who lurked in every dark corner)
presented a terrible sight
and attempted
to reach out
a gnarly, hairy and scaly hand
in an attempt to grab hold
one skinny leg
to pull me
with all his dreadful might
way down
out of the light
into the pitch black
and take a bite!
