Easter 2020 In the South

a 5-7-5 (not sure if it could be called a senryu)

In some Southern states,
nature rivaled Corona.
We worshiped at home.

Bygones

The fans of the Brooklyn Dodgers
Once rivaled those of Roy Rogers
But when Trump came on
Those standards were gone
Trigger got stuffed with old codgers

Valentines Day Mistake

Creating a gorgeous valentines pizza, was the chef Mr. Jake.
His puppy stood beside him, giving his tail a happy shake.
They were going to woo Miss Gallanger, a big mistake.
She had a temper that rivaled a major earthquake.

He Took My Hand

When he took my hand
this drab world changed
summer grasses became
a carpet of green where we
lay hour after hour lost
in each other

My eyes saw color in everything
and my heart filled
with raw emotion

His touch rivaled the warmth of the sun
causing buds to blossom on our trees
my lips open to his
my heart open to love

river walker

River walker ran out of the pond today
They saw her coming, and some ran away
She is mystical, said the faeries beside the bay.
They wondered why she had chosen that day.

Her hair and clothes were silver bright
She had a glow that rivaled daylight’s light.
We stared in wonder, loving her cosmic might.
Everything about her felt absolutely right.

Just Like the Sun

She laid in the grass
Gazing at the sky
Watching the sun
She thought of you
That chestnut smooth brown skin
Eyes as black as space
You’re the sky of her stars
Big hands and strong arms
That once held her so tight
It rivaled her own skin
At this thought she gives a shy sweet grin
Warm life giving and consistent
Your love is just like the sun

Avariciousness of King William B

Avariciousness of King William B was weird
The restlessness of his marauders feared
His greediness was well-known in his day
Many were dead, so he could collect right away

His coffers were filled up by the blood of others
Corpses on the fields were many fathers and brothers
William’s disregard for the masses and cupidity
Were rivaled by his lack of empathy and stupidity

Angry Goddess of Daisies

irate Goddess of Daisies did not get her due
wrath of her anger rivaled that of old Sue
I’m a major deity, she yelled to bells blue.
with complete jurisdiction over the likes of you!

bluebells liked the Goddess but wisely kept quiet.
not wanting to start a crucifixion or riot
Goddess of Daisies had been on a no-carb-or-sweet diet
they decided to dine without her, at the Regency Hyatt.

Snatching Spider Met His Match

Ensnared in
the crystallization
   of web's
  intimidating deception,
    superficial spider
     met its
           duplicitous match,
    whence the improvised
        contortionist morphed
           forth from her chrysalis,
                 spun midst grandeur
                       of liberation's flight 'pon
                             triumphantly rivaled
                                    diaphanous inception

Forged As One

The intensity of love's heat was gradual at first. And felt like pins and needles spontaneously dispersed. Fueling fledgling feelings, flames burned with a bluish hue. And slowly shifted scarlet as desire and passion grew. My inhibitions melted into pools of liquid fire. And as temperatures climbed, my hopes rose even higher. Two souls melded together; forever forged as one. And the heat of that union, rivaled the heat of the sun.

Peaceful Possibility

The possibility of peace Rests with the one you see in your reflection No surprise it should be that the peace possibility Is rivaled by violence's disability. Peace is possible for every aspect of our lives It starts as you gaze upon your mirror And is realized with the unity of diverse minds Just as the certainty that every puzzle piece Contributes its characteristics For the greater purpose of revealing the bigger picture, The possibility of peace.

The Perfume Bottle

a Curtal Sonnet

Her Evening in Paris was dainty blue,
safe in a place forbidden to young ones
too new to understand passionate love
between a man and a woman that grew
and burst in a blaze that rivaled the sun's,
then putting to shame the stars up above.

The years passed by as they are wont to do,
but her scent lingers in the mourning dove,
and still warms the hearts of her stalwart sons
and of the grandchildren who barely knew
her blue scent of love.
