honeysuckle tree
blossoms rain on summers day
yellow parachutes
she grows renegade
her offshoots grow wild too
commandeer the yard

Rolling ruby rivers reflect
Recovered roses' refined respect
Releasing reborn, renegade rainbows
Redeemed regret rarely regrows

(1943-2003)
He was a renegade.
He was a rebel all his days.
Then something broke inside. And I, I --
I cried and cried when Warren died.

Lyric
Glowing like a hot fire
Any shade of red just won't do;
Renegade shadows
Nearly misread as blood;
Energizing the cold
The flame of January.

Honeysuckles commandeered my yard
Ten in a row, watching this old bard
They grow renegade, their roots are super deep.
Providing shade for my red ninety-eight Jeep.

I sit and I ponder and I ponder and I sit
Am I a genius or a nitwit?
Honeysuckle tree makes fun of me
A bee sits down and stings my knee
I feel less wise than a renegade tree

the sky is a prettier blue here
maybe due to today’s silence
the bird chatter seems wittier
possibly because of this relaxed setting
dainty renegade flowers jiggle in the wind
reminding me why I love the country

Tribalism:
You break the rules
and become a renegade.

In dark, you
will recognize the faces
of unslept poems.

All powerful lemonade
Turned Bill into a renegade
Warlock instantly chastised
Interest in him on the rise
Lone wolf now, will run with pack
Mom wanted her baby back.
Hear that howling in the hill?
Bill runs loose and always will

Rabid, renegade ravens, rise.
Relishing rancid refuse; repugnant.
'Round rural relics, resounding ruthless retorts.
Retrieving realm revelations.
Rival reckonings; regimes ruptured.
Repent! Release. Repeat..
Reconcile. Rejoice. Retreat.

Renegade against time with vision and
Isolated from yourself, the sun does not cover, you
Centered on dreams too big for life
How you dream those big dreams,
And life’s passing you by.
Renegade son do not eat the apple.
Don your amour and free the princess
O, free the princess!

Jabbering in his mind
Unclear thoughts, non-cohesive, renegade,
Running wildly with a 1957 Chevy truck,
Honking with a gaggle of winter geese.
Fuzzy dendrite connections,
Brain overload, grabbing out-of-control ideas,
Hoisting them into cyberspace with his unicorn monkey pals.

perky yellow woodland sunflower
you grew renegade at the side of my Kansas woods
against the backdrop of the forest, you look amazing
glowing in the colors of an August sun
you are reputed to be an invasive plant
welcome to my meadow, you bring me joy
invade away, with my blessing

A rogue, a renegade, diabolically daring.
Living life on her own cleverly-figured-out terms.
Unknowingly enticing others to follow in her leather footsteps.
Admired by much younger awed females.
Their biggest dream is to grow up to be her someday.
We all know her.
Probably by a thousand different names.

Time that memories have not erased, sad and stuck in the cerebral
Everlasting stains like the blood one sheds on a cross from a crucifixation
Agitated at the family, friends and lovers that leave
Renegade on emotions water for the rage to calm the flame
Serenade the ground with a lonely girls tune

Renegade trees are suffocating the yard.
One became seven rather quickly.
When I discovered the mother tree,
I congratulated myself on a successful transplant years ago.
I had babied my little forest tree almost too much.
Never dreaming she was going to become the grandmother of the yard.
Going forth and multiplying.

Only clowns had masks
And secret agents
Personae non grata
Disallowed from disguise
Now the Stasi and Gestapo
Of all nations denunciate
Those renegade souls
Who hide their screen
Blindfolded we justify
Judge and reprimand
Cushion our conscience
In self-righteousness

a bat and ball
a certain way to stand tall
ignition within a conversation
pierced as the renegade blown together
appreciate the system,
walk away to me while you bleed
certain to be caught
from here to eternity back
safe in my chest you see
lift the soap so far
try avoiding the light on the car
look to the east...

My eye is quickly seized by a gorgeous glimmer of purple; I walk over to take a better look. The renegade petunias have arrived to announce the imminent arrival of summer. They are supposed to be annuals, but no one has told them, so here they are, magically showing summer the way.
purple petunia
vibrant and beautiful
spring into summer

flowers naturally gravitated to this beautiful meadow
they arrived renegade, their seeds transplanted by the wind
bluebells, lilies, carnations, roses and daisies thrived here
the ancient battlement in the near distance was thrilled
he had never expected to see anything this gorgeous in this life
a gift from god, he told himself, and of course, they were

Endured a hapless energy renegade
Spiked for purple Kool-Aid
Sandbox toys with tortured minds
Bless-ed wink at my duress
Potato truck deposits you
While life is laughing back
Go ahead and crawl again
Walking fakes a man of you
Flipped like pancakes over done
Just you see there is no “fun”
Crash the fence inside your mind
No Picasso poet son

Sleep
Evades
Even when counting sheep
Or listening to a serenade.
I guess I need a sandwich of peanut butter and
Marmalade
To end my slumberness.
I can't understand why my mind has gone to being a
Renegade.
I'm powerless.
It seems tonight my thoughts are bottomless.
I am laying in bed open eyed.
Never the less
However, tomorrow a nap would be justified.

Lightning sutures me
not leaving a single scar;
My smile starts to glow;
To myself I say,
‘Everything will be alright.’
Such a clear cut sign;
Natural cymbals
back up my internal source;
A shove towards peace;
Rebuilt but still tough,
the Sun’s bright after hard rain;
Sound renegade survivor;
Deep down hope keeps us alive,
right into storms we nosedive.
