Sometimes we view ourselves
As victims of our circumstances,
Because we haven't stopped rehearsing the past;
This often causes our thoughts to take us to gates
For which we'll never earn the right to enter....

Opening Night
Auditioning for life,
 a one-act play

Rehearsing my part,
to leave or to stay

The audience waiting,
the stage has been set

Opening night,
 my birth or my death

(Villanova Pennsylvania: February, 2020)...

God believes in term limits –
no surprise, Congress does not;

The soul responds immediately
to truth – while policy requires
endless debating...

Good needs no rehearsing –
unlike evil, always heavily
scripted and eternally
contracted.......

The Stage of Life
hopefulness lessons
desire decreases
lack of willingness rises
creating a scene of great
indifference to come upon the
screen of the mind's eye
re-playing the past
re-playing the present
rehearsing for the future
standing upon the stage of life...

I Am Drug Free
Drugs are nasty, drugs are bad,
Rage consumes you and makes you mad.
Using drugs is unhealthy,
Getting high don’t make you wealthy.

Family and friends keep me clean,
Rehearsing that, before my teens.
Education is the treasure,
Encouraging us, to stay fresher....

Imagining Me
I hold back
hiding the gifts I've been given

the curtain opens
but the stage is empty
a hushed audience awaits
but this play has no act
just lots of rehearsing
now actor-less
no applause
no flowers
no bows

I've always held out
not letting go
watching others perform
imagining me...

Schools of Life
You went to your universities
rehearsing your autobiographies
and
we are still as different as
chalk and cheese
I suppose you'll know
a chemical symbol
for those,
but
I wrote the writing to spend one more night in
her arms,
she left the light on to write me a love song
and
you don't need a degree for that....

You are adept at burrowing and slithering. Fight your way through the mud, bungling, and spilling. Plunged into the insides of the rind and outer casing. The further you lead, beyond troublesome it is becoming. Thinking over this is compulsatory rehearsing. Assumptions might be thwarted by the finding.

Gardens of Regrets
David J Walker

Here is how we thrive on grief
Grown in gardens of regrets
just beyond a pale belief
Preserving how one forgets
Rehearsing erstwhile
tactile threats

Here is how we thrive on life
And laugh at epithets in rune
And dance a thunderstorms delight
A summers night enbibed in June
Perceiving fractal
 		Cursive cume...

Every Conversation
Rehearsing each sunrise,
willing better into
being with you on a
Sunday, without regret.
In truth, nothing ever
proceeds as imagined.

Acceptable, this
existence in mere
fragments of blissful
and none approaching
the freedom of whole.

In every curve
of every word
I feel the pull
of away, and

still farther
while reaching
in vain for

that which
has since

left...

True
Golden
Is the light given to write
The words that lovingly depart
Gleaned from the collection of moments
Watching the dance of life on a limitless silent stage
While the multitude of days fold in-between
A ream of poems on blank paper sheets
Rehearsing years of storied elegies
That churn and spill upon a new
Light of understanding
Recounting hope
Enlightenment
Wisdom
Love...

It Was a Day
It was a day when my river met
your waterfall, it’s been good
like new year’s eve
one moment after.

There are whole unearthed days,
days legendary for their reincarnated
ghost of a chance.
Some are still rehearsing their
‘what ifs’
and other misplaced wishes.

It was a day when your life
changed to mine.
Sometimes I forget myself,
but you are my day & tomorrow clock.
You chime in my heart....

Premium Member Bean and Queen
I secured my car with Yale lock and key,

And merrily sauntered up the hotel lobby,

stuck my tongue out with a smile obscene,

I was rehearsing my role to play Mr. Bean!

The suit was perfect and so was the walk,

I gargled my words as Mr. Bean would talk,

laughter was stolen by an old lady, who imitated the Queen and winked at me!

Breaking Records
before the music
started playing
i should have
asked if you
wanted to
join me
on

the dance floor
because before
i could ask
some one
else asked
you the
same

question i had been
rehearsing even
the night before
and he was
wearing a
plaid look
ing like a

dinner table's
table cover
and you
must of
said of
course
because

before
me you
two were
dancing
the carpet
off of the

Trinidad the Place, I Call Home:
How I long to see the sunrise,
How I thirst for the ocean.
My feet weary,
My eyes tired,
My soul weakens.
Oh mother nature!
Once so kind to me,
When you bore me
Upon thee earth
No better place,
No better haven.
Sweet melodies,
Cheerful laughter,
Children playing,
Steel band rehearsing.
Trinidad the place of my birth
Childhood memories
That cannot be erased
Friendship formed,
Bonds unbroken,
Time frozen....

MOONLIGHTING

swaddled by the stars,
moonlight swaying.
obeying sandswept eyes
and yawns of sleep.

dreams appearing
in seraphic shadows,
lighting up the inner room —
anamnesis of sunlight breadth.

drilling of the hands
and feet in repetition —
knitting needles syncing, lips
rehearsing the alphabet.

dot to dot of neuron hours
handsomely pieced
in gigantic looms. pillow
cosseting psychic depth.

Beauty-Doll
I've seen my shadow in your eyes,
I've seen my double in you all,
I've seen it slow how it dies,
Rehearsing like an actor changing role [s],
Your bluebell shiny sight is attractive,
Your spring-like smile is a call,
Your flashy blink is very active,
When animating your beauty...mole,
Your brown hair is really matching,
Your baby face..Like a doll,
Your longer neck is also catching,
With your crystal front and the poll....

I am
Weak
No more will I be
Able to walk straight
With my head held high, I am
Living a lie
I cannot continue on by
Rehearsing perfection to mask flaws
Under your shelter I reside to stop
The destruction of my esteem
I will not feed
The fire within
As my insecurities grow, so too does
My apathy
I have disavowed
My dreams of success
I can clearly see
My failure
I will overcome
Nothing
I will cease to be
And...
This I am...

Just a Sonnet V
Today
Is a new day, a new way
to plot a different graph
from yesterday - stand tall as a giraffe
Yesterday died but tomorrow is to be born
Piles from it, learn from them, but keep them unworn
Receiving new wings
Rehearsing new swings
Keep yourself fly, stay on the highs
The lows squashes, remain arise
like vapour form clouds, rain on mistakes
from yesterday - cause erosion to the aches
Then new seeds to the ground,
Then new needs would be found....
