You know that little indestructible black box that is used on planes for recordings?
Why can't they make the whole airplane out of that very same substance?...

hmmm...i've got to write
something other than haiku...
which...seems as old shoe

like...records and tape
those analog recordings...
just...music as played

now...digital reigns
with it's perfect micro-beat...
seems...a sound defeat

no...that is context
of understanding content...
hmmm...haiku's my vent

For the Truth
People who see
          things differently
   are those whom
you may trust
     if you don't believe
that
    then you are wrong
Now that light is shining
     down upon us
  our songs are something
that untold millions
] should hear
  Bring out your old recordings
Let beautiful music
set you free!...

The Exudate of Charisma
I did with sinking heart, notice
Ask me what, and I will deliver sans prejudice.
Minus three from a decade being on precipice,
Yet hammered for erecting defensive rise,
His self-belief pervaded poll's vice.
Thus ploughed he, relentless and determined
towards staggering recordings of happy lies.
Finally he did recede, failing entry's justice....

In-Dwelt
The apartment leaks footsteps,
it’s hard to avoid their featherweight padding.

Fabric and pith teach
walls how to speak;
fragmented recordings
that always threaten to utter
something intelligible.

Ears question,
closed eyes grope for answers.

They abide --- the indwellers,

they nightly rearrange,
whatever you thought was yours
as you daydream of being real....

Indwellers
The apartment leaks their footsteps.
Ghosts avoid them
they live on in the fabric and pith,
die in the gist and substance
as fragmented recordings;
the former, the previous.
Once they were the replacement tenants
now you’re the usurper.
They won’t speak to you,
for you are not there,
however they will arrange and restore
what you thought was yours
as you dream of being....

From the Audio Recordings of Mars Rover Insight
I heard the wind on Mars
Like ours
And that blew me away

The same wolf
Howling
Out there

Roams
The rusted crust
Just as solitary
As his hunt
Here on Earth’s green hills

His wail longing for choirs

Searching the blue sunset on Mars
Same as the orange dusk of our own orb
Or upon any dark stone
Cast throughout the abyss

This
Will be our greatest human discovery....

Parenthood
Dots of light dotted the dome
Displaying dismal disks
Halfhearted innuendos of harmony
Repetitive, unremarkable recordings
Minimally interesting, middle class, mediocre
Small wonder he thought, smirking, smarting
Discipline dismissed, discarded
Replaced with fun, funk and fad
Foolishness fueled Fukem, he fumed
No more, no more, no more
The military, military school, immediately!...

The Indwellers
The apartment leaks footsteps.
Ghosts avoid their featherlight padding.

They dwell in the fabric and pith,
teaching the walls to speak;
fragmented recordings
always threatening to utter
something intelligible.

Who are they, what are they?
Such questions
only arise under closed eyes.

They abide

they arrange and restore
whatever you thought was yours
as you dream of being real....

On Listening To Phil Ochs
Died young
yet his songs
          remain
          behind
   He sang about
the poor
         and he
sang for America
"Here is a Land full of power and glory"
was the way he put it
he sang for the labor movement
   in "The Chain"
He was not loved by all
yet his work is a part
of
American
history
He lives on in his recordings
    and in the soul of
this fantastic experiment
   we call AMERICA...

We have only a moment
till our present is past
for only in memory
can anything last

why we have photos
descriptive notes
recordings we make
thinking somehow the
moments can be stored
to take

but minds fail
and technologies have
glitches
just pass a whisper around
then compare while laughing
in stitches

wondering if life
is the butt of some joke
in the end all moments
going up in smoke...

Recordings
The house and barn have surrendered,
burrowing under the loose dirt of the sun.
Echoes run from house to barn, from barn to house,
a ritornello hurried along on the skirts of the wind.

In the ruined barn, decay finds its own language,
children still run here.
A transmission has leached from puttering feet;
it rattles the bones of embalmed mice.
A soundtrack of texture
running from barn to house - from house to barn....

You wrote songs that went up Billboard’s chart.
Wonderful lyrics went straight to the heart.
Born with a beautiful voice to be heard,
we loved listening to every lyrical word.
Your recordings were played throughout this land.
They included “Longer” and “Leader of the Band”.
Your blood ran through your instrument,
and your songs are in our souls.
Dan, you have earned a place that is permanent.
Your sound is something everyone extols....

They were three talented men nearly everybody got to know.
The music world received quite a gift with this trio.
They hailed from a town somewhere in Ohio.
In a Philly recording studio this group was found.
Many recordings they made were soon to be hit bound.
They recorded “Backstabbers”, “Love Train”, and “I Love Music”.
They were just a few of the songs sounding terrific.
We can still see them perform. They have not gone away.
Check them out if they are in concert today....
