Play Possum

wild possum plays dead
woodpecker knocks on green wood
willow weeps for both
wherever the carcass is
will the vulture there gather

California Winter Stars

Aquamarine, winks.
     Observing them, they do blink.
     A possum, just thinks.

Peter Possum -- Mp

Peter Possum had a nasty rep
He was so white, he couldn't be hep
He got him some brown paint
  Said, "I am what I ain't!"
If he'd only unlearn that goose step

The Possum Sanctuary

I can almost hear
the tree scream
lopped and cut to the ground
it's base drilled
and poison filled
oozes life for months
until a spent force
the earth and insects
claim the octopus
with it's once mighty tentacles
being devoured.

Playful Thinking

I like to go and check out the Heaven before I die
So first I will garner needed good deeds and earn my salvation
then I would just play possum for a while and hoodwink death.

No Greater Love

After she was born, daddy called her “little possum”
Mama said, “Don’t listen child, you are gonna blossom”
they never saw her smile
they said, “It’s not her style”
When they placed her in the ground, both whispered, “You are awesome”

Possum

When the possum met with our tire tread
He lay still and we thought he was dead
So we scooped him right up
In a pot for our sup
Let’s just say we were gravely misled

Possum Trash

This sandy shore is mine, I am its vassal;
building my fort, I was much too facile.
Just as I finished, here came a passel,
a passel of beach possums, razzle-dazzle.
I'm not quittin', though it be a hassle;
possum trash'l be an awesome castle.

Signs of the Times

Winter is surly.
Eagerly early,
Spring overtakes.
Not left behind
I hurry to find
Clippers and rake.
Each bud and blossom
Quits playing possum.
Appearances make.
Responsive resurgence,
Fixed on fast forward,
Nature awakes!

Signs of the Time

Silently signaled,
Eagerly early
Spring overtakes
Not left behind
I hurry to find
Clippers and rakes.
Each bud and blossom
Quits playing possum
Appearance makes.
Responsive resurgence,
Fixed on fast forward,
Nature awakes.

Dear Abuser

Let this be a reminder of
How you pounded your incestuous breath
On my lips
Hands clinched to my hips
As you force fed me
Your spoiled milk
Scared from the threats you made
I played possum
As you played your dirty tricks on me
I forgive you
But Karma is a *****!

Rest In Peace

Possum ran
                               out in road,
                             me squash him,
                               like road kill,
                               Under shoe,
                              Rest in peace,
                              Dear friend...

The Meals On the Other Paws

Alley cat sitting On a fence post, in the dark; Movement in shadow, Catches his marbled, green eyes; One leap and dinner is served. Such a feast will last Him and his friends, a whole day; Opossum will fight; But, alley cat’s determined One leap and cat is the meal!

Poseidon's Possum

The strangest things happen
in the Northern hemisphere
dancing dervishes
become the norm
in the mid Norwegian Sun,
mercator projected
A bird in flight
caught by the car lights,
travelling incognito.
Recess to be free,
there's a longing ;
in the upper atmosphere
see the lodestar disappear.

A Vain Manx

I once had a Manx who constantly primped; her white underbelly never sported one piece of grass or dirt. She kept so clean and fluffy that we’d no idea he’d had her backside chewed up for three days, by an Opossum! In altercation My cat became Opossum Chow wearing teeth marks.

Frankenpups

The pups are quite the pack,
Never know when they will attack!
     Red eyed demons,
     Ears laid back,
Maybe a possum will be a snack!
     Held tightly in my grip,
     Never know when I'll slip!
     Off they go,
     With me in tow!
Perhaps I should just let them go!

Stoplight Fireflies

Stoplight Fireflies

Stoplight fireflies blink yellow
over vacant intersections

Owls whisper on the mist
mime-like field mice listen

Soft surf muffles side step
clatter of crab legs

Feral eyes swallow
waning moonlight

A possum waddles beneath
blinking yellow fireflies.

My Own

I prefer to receive my own
Purchased by the clinking of keys and a
Blister forming on the thumb.
I prefer to find my own
Among the twisted branches and bleeding berries.

The coat with the mended sleeve dangles by my head
as we find the sleeping bears above us.
He laughs as his becomes a possum
And mine a mountain top.
