Summer arrived,
and the fuzz buzz of bees,
so did the fireflies'
flicker and tease,
so did the peepers
and green leaves on trees,
and the mellow of sun
to do as it pleased....

Catching the Red-Eye
Across the crowded room I saw your face,
I watched you as you walked around the place,
but while my peepers glared
you looked mighty damned scared...
Whoa, lady! There's no reason to spray mace!...

Night Song
Night Song

On a blanket on the ground
I am entranced by nature's symphony
the cadence of peepers,
the "Who Who Who" when the Barred Owl sings.
I am in awe of her heavenly masterpiece
the constellations, the shooting stars
and the palpable harmony night brings.

Spring Hope For Northhampton
A birds joyous flutter of early May grand,
bulbs pop yellow heads, from green woken land.
Crickets and peepers work second shift chatter,
as a voice out of Boston, announces next batter.
It`s Springtime in Amherst, Smith girls in light sweaters.
Where Emily penned hope, as the thing with feathers....

Lullaby
The open country fills the sky
The forests stretch before my eye
Breezes soar, on which I fly
Oh love, oh love, the lullaby!

Stars refulgent grace my sight
They chart the heavens through the night
The world as one unites - unites!
Oh love, oh love, the lullaby!

Sounds serene impress my ear
The katydids, the peepers hear
An audible, the planet cries
Oh love, oh love, the lullaby!...

oh, you ...
diminutive little creature
no bigger than
my pinky's fingernail
yet your sweet song fills
my chill spirit with hope as large
as creation -
a longing for warmth and promise -
bright life and joyous activity
a buoyant anticipation
of better things to come
and the mysteries and ebullience
of summer
your twilight serenade has
at long last returned
and like you ...
I am awakening.
