Jurassic Dreams

Walking with giants,
each step getting bigger

The miles—the millennia,
the search beyond

Beyond

The River….
Passing water
Through time
Its message
Deliverable
Beyond the millennia
Beyond the confusion
  —beyond

A Young Child's Smile

Countless millennia of the
Earth’s molten core
Heaving on tectonic plates,
Have ripped continents apart
From gorge to sky,
The wonder is …
They can be bonded once again,
 By a young child’s smile,
In the mere glance of an eye.

Adrift

Spin right Mighty motors churning through the night From the millennia Powered wheels so long evaded capture Vagabonds adrift Lost at sea without her spun delight Wheels breezing by repeating Save us from our old familiar plight

An Autumn Tree

Will such beauty endure? It surely must.
When Mankind’s traces vanish from the Earth,
our glories turned back to primeval dust,
millennia hence. And then perchance re-birth,
starting afresh with wondering eyes to see
abiding splendour in an Autumn tree.

Heritage

Millennia-long a big challenge to feed
our hungry new blood and relations in need
by hunting, collecting and later with seed;
for fear of starvation we still deal with greed.

Lineage of Fire

forging
noble timeless art
brute strength and skill
reverence for the forces of fire
innate passion for working metal
precious knowledge passed down the ages
honoring with pride millennia of blacksmith ancestry

Archeological Reverence

The golden chair of opulence
Seats a stately emperor,
Enrobed in royal purple hue
Of lichen moss that shrouds his bones from view.

And yet he holds you in his thrall,
Millennia since he has lived,
You bow before his exhumed throne,
And kiss, in fealty, his toe of bone.

Sacrifice Recalled

I dreamed that by a grey-blue sea
Familiar columns beckoned me,
An onyx temple rearing stark
Against the surf so dark.

But in the temple drawn-out screams
Destroyed nostalgic dreams—
The screams were mine, some four
Millennia ago, in life before…
Black deja-vu, on Time’s far shore.

Night Star

Far away in time in space
Watching blindly from a long dead place
Phantom light millennia old
Shining through emptiness and endless cold
Sparkling as brightly in the night sky
As a twinkling tear from an ancient cry
Gracing, with diamonds, the celestial sphere
Specters of life from far off frontiers

Shadow

A cast shadow, my other self
Speaks not in flowery meter
But waits time immortal
In the darkness of a conscious mind

In spite of myself
Itself
Yourself
Drawn on every word I utter

Anticipating a near, full, or half truth
The night has no faith in reality
But a certainty that light is a millennia away
And that shadow rules twilight

Man and Life

Man has spent lots of millennia

Striving his nature to improve

He seems to have managed only

Life from our planet to remove

(c) Demetrios Trifiatis
        17 July 2016

*Hundreds of thousands of species have disappeared and more are about
to take the road to oblivion because of Man's thoughtless interference in nature.

Easter In the Spring

Renewal of life is all around. New green plants are rising from the ground. Just as our Savior rose from the dead two millennia ago, buds on the trees and new flowers show. So we celebrate Easter during the season of spring. It is the time for recognition of renewing. Robert Pettit for Linda Marie’s “Easter Inspirations” contest

There's a river meandering through the mind

Vast as a landscape, not a straight but a meandering one
Sometimes placid sometimes storms, but always moving
It is alive; always flowing getting lost in eddies of distraction
Sense of timelessness flowing for millennia, shaping the earth
Thoughts shape you like a quiet meditation on introspection
It doesn’t always follow a straight path and takes its time.

It Shines, Still

* More than two millennia have passed Since that magnificent, dazzling star Shined over the sleepy town of Bethlehem To point the way to salvation: A blessed babe, the Son of Heaven. And yet ... Just as all those many years ago, One bright truth remains, Gleaming in the night - Wise men ... STILL seek Him. ~

Giants Through the Hour Glass

giants through the hour glass

stride leviathan
upon the hissing seeds of mountains
curl toes, summer freed,
about the pillars of the world
whose molten bloom
faded millennia ago
and crumbled down to dust.

upon these ancient shores
ponder as you brush aside
these clinging crumbs of mighty crags
once, a time ago
we were almost dust
and they were giants.

Reported convergence of science and spirit

There is a reported

Convergence of

Science and spirit

Seen as evidence

Of a coming

Realization of what

For the millennia

Has evaded so much

Searching..a goal

On the horizon with

A promise finally

Of felt success..

Such may seem a story

Of futility writ large

Not separated from a

Beautiful story of

Infinite expression..

The Red Planet

Pyramids are scattered
in a flat plane,
as red dust blows
once in a while.

For millennia,
we have read stories
of "flying fortresses"
or vimanas to Hindus,
"flying shields" to Alexander
the Great,
and "flying eggs" to the Dogon

The distant travelers
were revered as gods from the stars;
gods who know us very well;
gods who are us a million years from now....

It Is Puzzling

The philosopher had thought it through.
The physicist discovered it anew.
And the poet always knew
That time is relative.

If so, why…why do we all seek to measure
The millennia and the yugas
With the same empirical clock,
As in a rat race,
And a similar calendar,
Julian, Gregorian, Vikrami or whatever,
Blissfully unaware
That it may be a great blunder?!

Terracotta Oil Lamp

Terracotta oil lamp, nearly two millennia balanced in the palm of my hand
An archaic flashlight for some Mesopotamian householder
Hands over centuries transferring it from one owner to the next
And to think that in its newest state, a sleepy flame from its spout
Cast a glow upon a bed, a table, a wife’s face, a scroll or a book
Illuminating the momentary life that burns faster than oil.

Immortal You Are

No, my dearest friend,

You are not mortal but immortal,

Because the child of God you are, who

Cannot be touched by the passing of time,

No matter how many millennia may pass,

So worry not of the coming and going of the years

For

They are but the predicaments of temporality

Fighting a losing battle against eternity!

Ancient Dance

We stand closely in the cool bedroom
Mutual appreciation abounds
Delicate hands caress my shoulders
My arms enveloping your loveliness

Finger-tipped feather light touch
Maps the gentle arch of your back
Simultaneously my hands moving away from me
Downwards, bringing us closer still

Anticipation firing desires
Breathless elevation of all senses
We embrace the Ancient Dance
Of lovers over millennia.

A Woman To Mother

What makes a woman a mother?
Is it only because they can gestate?
Or is it the will to nurture,
A being that they did create,

Making a new being,
Is not that difficult,
All animals have done it for millennia.
So why do many humans,
Chose to be only to be a participant?

If taking responsibility,
For a new gift to the world,
Gives a phenomenal asset to the human collective,
Is that the ultimate reward?
