Lagos
Citizens in culture crossed
   Morals lost in distance chase
        Flowers wither at night...

Lagos
Violence in a lorry’s heart
The cruelty of a swoop-hawk
Afflicting along a highway
Of a rural-urban stray;

And drivers in endemic pipes
Of high-life tunes of our folks
The angry touts shout and curse
Passengers in and out of trucks!...

Oladokun Kolawole
Grow your Abuja,
Shining like star.

Turn Ibadan's heritage
Into hermit's hermitage.

The dangerous Lagos,
Must stay emboss

Bí omi Òsun,
Tí kò sùn.

Happy birthday sir!
As you stir;

Tick the four
And quietly explore--

To achieve great,
What generations await...

Amen. ??...

Victorial Island
With her garment glittering as gold
Skyscrapers scrubbing and scrapping the sky
Fleets of steels moving into her spine
In her womb, is the abode for the affluence
Echoes of stubborn bar beach
Hallowing the expatriates
Across my nose are the moving ship
In my eyes are bustling buses
there i screamed,
Victoria, Victoria an island in Lagos...

Biography of Legionite Lita
LEGIONITE LITA
A writer of prose, play and poetry.
The daughter of the strongest legion.
Though she eats lemon, pill and berry,
she hate anything sour, bitter or sweet.
Though she feels great, inspired and strong,
she still hate failure, fight and duelship.
Her biggest dream is to see monkeys
playing around her resident in Lagos.
Legionite LiTA...

God Knows
Thank God for people I know..
for leading me everywhere I go..
for letting me know when and where to sow:

giving me d grace to grow,
helping me survive lagos go-slow..
I'm happy that all I need, God knows,
when things are shady, he shows..

the earth is where he rests his toes,
so what shall I fear,foes??
No way,no fear, no woes..
if he be by ur side, don't fret, just Glow..
because he has it all under controL.....

Agony
Lagos booms
Portharcourt blooms,
Abuja blossoms
in the loveliness of my cream.

Niger sings,
Kaduna cheers,
Kano salaams,
in the rivers of my tears.

Alone....all alone,
decay and desolation gather days
and in woe my nights.
All things that love the sun mourn
on every side of me.

Look!.......look!
Look at my darkly face.
My story attends in tears and sorrow.
Look...look now in my eyes,
in one stride comes anguish....

The Mystery of a City Angel
(for: Anita, a belle near Lagos campus)

shyly she smiles
her ever-floating smiles
wrecking the reason
out of the land;
impudence accompanies
her to all the hills –
sitting like an old goddess
of harvest & healing
she looks so calm
this angel of the city –
is she an angel of fertility
or the patron of virgins?
wisdom kicks on the faces
of old humanity;
& now she smiles away
with her heroic deeds
a queen of many misdeeds!...

Unchain
Unchaining the chained
Is my ultimate gain
Life we live is of chain
Full of manacles and shackles

Let we unchain the chained
Legs and hands under siege
Even our head and mouth
Cannot be free of doom
Can we ever leave above the gloom?
In chain we desire freedom
For our land is full of boom.

Strange Faces In This Crowded Bus
Who owns
These faces
I see in this
Crowded bus?
Our Lagos
Squires or slums?

Hopeful eyes
Squint as smews!
Scarfed
Capped
Bald
Bared
Heads flow
On mobile necks.

Yes!
Dry joy squats
Lifeless
On these faces
As elephant husks.

Arrayed in apparels
Shabby as pigs
Tho’ some gorgeous
Neat as eagles
These beings
Headed towards
Mile Two
O, Mile Two
Of all places!

But where exactly
Are we coming from?
And where exactly
Are we going to?...

Escape From Reality
ESCAPE FROM REALITY

From the threshold of reality
A trip I took to the valley of inanity
In my quest for nothing but vanity
I exposed my desire for absurdity

Can I escape from my reality?
I gaze through my thought
I wasn't absent-minded
I picked up a mirror
Look through the interior
Of my innermost self
I dreamt off while walking
Sleep-walking
Thinking aloud only to myself
Can I escape from my reality?
