'ouch'

A man found himself in a pickle
When his girlfriend found he was fickle
He said "won't you stay"
She said "there's no way"
As she took his head off with a sickle.

Pay Back

I keep your picture
By my bed.
So when I flip the covers back
I can slap you in the face.

Just as you have slapped mine.

Not with your hand
But with your cold indifference.

Resolution

There's nothing left to say
You've decided to go away.

I could beg
I could weep
I could make promises
I'll never keep.

But, I won't because
There's nothing left to say
You've decided to go away.

Prayer

Raise me up O Lord
That I might see
The world in all it's glory.

Raise me up O Lord
So my heart can feel
Every sinner's story.

Raise me up O Lord
To be an instrument of your peace.

Raise me up O Lord

And let me fly.

Quiet Time

By a crystal clear
Running stream
I sat and listened
In the stillness.

Everything was so still
It was as if I could hear
The beating of my own heart.

Suddenly, I saw a tiny bird
Just sitting there watching me

And then, I heard God laughing.

Josette Key 2010

I Knew

Youl walked away
With a laugh and a wave
Like nothing had changed.

Complaining about the
Lack of beer
With the promise of a call.

But, I knew

I knew there would be no call
I knew that our time together
Was over.

You would never have admitted it

But, I knew.

Thanksgiving

Let's bow our heads and pray
Today's Thanksgiving day.

Poor old turkey got the axe
Bet he wished he'd never been hatched.

Turkey, mashed potatoes, yams
Consume mass quantities but never ham.

Eat too much and pop your zipper
"Hey Honey, where's the Alka Seltzer"?

Like nothing was happening

With the promise of a call.

Angels

Angels above
Angels below
Angels surround me
Wherever I go.

Through the darkest of nights
Or the brightness of day
Angels are there
To show me the way.

Guided by God's own hand
They help turn all my troubles
Into simple grains of sand.

Little Bird

I did not see
The little bird
That flew into
The window pane.

I only heard a thump
And it's little chirp of pain

As it lay dying
In the cold, hard rain.

Poor little bit of life
That no one really saw
But God.

I feel like that little bird sometimes
Lost and alone
In my own world of pain.

Love and War

If I were a plant
I would be a cactus
Beautiful to look at
But painful to hold

If I were a place
It would be Alaska
Beautiful, majestic
But decidedly cold.

For every action
There is a reaction
Or maybe it's karma
I'm told.

But, without you to hold me
I would have no reason
To still be here when I'm old.

Requiem For a Light Weight

He's dead
He's dead
Shot himself in the head.

Walked right out the kitchen door
So blood couldn't stain the brand new floor.

He's dead
He's dead

Walked around like a great big jerk
His gun just one of many quirks
Short little guy who had no friends
Probably had to wear Depends.

He's dead
He's dead

So what.

Alive In a Poisoned World

I wake, I eat
I bathe, I shop
I cook, I survive.

Minutes, seconds
Tick by
And I survive.

I communicate with friends
Never knowing if I will ever
See them again.

Or if they will fade
Into obscurity
Like the thousands before them.

This is what it's like
To be alive in a poisoned world.

And the seconds tick by.

Mouse Rap

There's a mouse in my house
It just ran under the couch
I really hate to say it
But I don't think I can take it.

There's a mouse in my house
I'm really quite annoyed
There's some bread on the floor
It must have really enjoyed.

There's a mouse in my house
I just hit it with my shoe
It really seems quite dead now
Think I'll flush it down the loo.

Days

For two thousand or so days (And nights)
You were part of my life
Part of me
Part of my very soul.

When it was over,
I went numb inside and out
I felt nothing.

Not happy
Not sad
Just a gaping hole
Where my spirit used to be.

It's been seven thousand or so days
Since I died.

My heart still beats
But I feel nothing.

I Built An Altar

I built an altar
To my love
Of lies and tears
And pain.

I built an altar
To my love
But it was all in vain.

My love was not
An honest man
And drove me
Near insane.

No altars built
For mortal man
For none of them are worthy.

I will build my altar
Unto God
Cause only he's
Worth serving.

Insomnia

Now I lay me down to sleep
With tired back
And achy feet.

Today I've been to Hell and back
And still can't seem to hit the sack.

Problems, problems in my head
Heart pounds loud enough
To wake the dead.

House is silent as a tomb
All around is doom and gloom.

Feel so alone at this late hour
Oh God, if it be within your power
Please let me sleep for one good hour.

Eyes

I loved you from the moment I first looked
Into your big, brown eyes and saw myself.

I saw all the pain and all the loneliness
More loneliness than anyone should have
to endure.

You've been gone a long time now,
But when I get lonely, I close my eyes
And I can see those big brown eyes, and
Your smile.

And I'm not lonely anymore
Because I know you will always live
In my memories.

Running Back To God

The world was a cold and lonely place
Never saw a friendly face
Everybody trying to keep the pace
But, I went running back to God.

No love, no sunlight could be found
Pain and hate were all around
Terror lived in every sound
But, I went running back to God.

I could have stopped and turned around
And to this sinful Earth be bound
But freedom, peace and love I found
When I went running back to God.

Dreams

At night, in dreams
My soul takes flight
And I may live a million lives.

Sometimes rich
Sometimes poor
Each one stranger
Than before.

Sometimes in colors
Bold and Bright

Sometimes no colors
Fill my nights.

But, when the sun comes up
And I awake
It all just seems too hard to take.

No matter where my dreams
Have lead
I'm still the same old me instead.

Waiting To Hear Your Voice

I've been on this phone
For over an hour
Waiting to hear your voice.

To you
I'm just a blinking light
On your phone.

But I'm a person
A living, breathing
Human Being.

So, if you're tired
And annoyed
Please remember
One thing.

I had better plans for today
Than spending it on the phone
Waiting to hear your voice.

                                                                 Josette Davis Key 2018

Love

When your in love.
You give your all.
Nothing is too small.
If you say "But not that"
You are not in love, that's a fact.

When your in love.
She's from above.
You give her your all.
When you fall, you fall.

When you are in love.
You would die for her.
Sigh for her.
The love of your life.
And your soul.

Comments.
This refers to the song,
"I would give anything for love,
but not that"
I tag Josette Key for the party.

Mother Nature's Lullaby

Fall came to my door today
In colors of red and gold.

The sky was clear
The air was crisp.

As I walked along a leave strewn path
I watched the squirrels play, listened to
The birds serenade and marvelled at
The beauty before me.

Some find Fall depressing
They say it speaks of death and ending.

But to me, It's just Mother Nature
Singing her children a lullaby
Before she sends them off to bed.
