I See You
I see you with your self askew
To see you driving drunk's not new
So sure by heck
That you'll not wreck
I'll see you in the I.C.U....

Me Time
Left him in the I.C.U.
driving home alone
looking forward to being by myself
park car & enter empty house
i don’t feel like smiling…

Frigid waiting rooms
   people coming and going
      speaking with hushed voice -
          watching, waiting for good news
while death silently hovers

Stellar
tired of bamboo pruning
i nurture a long sigh
while you shout for love
echoes lost too
the howling black wind

is that zen?

ICU in me
fighting the waves of emotion
a deluge in a day...

life has left this sterile white garden

bent as a willow, I keen above blossomless beds

grieving those roses that once grew here

I Still Love You
Between life and death
our love is dwelling.
Sometimes I am touching the horizon,
sometimes he is too.
Who has said his beats stopped at the ICU?
I'm still feeling that it is rhyming in my heart
and coming out as poetry....

Icu - Not An Emergency
I see you

Little goblin girl
Your head popped above the row
Of bushes but of discord too, we grow

Blue and green were shades of the same color
Blew past and ahead of me were you allowing me
To see where you once and again will be, free to be me...

Paranoia
Paranoia: short circuit to madness
Walking around freely,
Yet our minds are in straitjackets
All these voices & choices
Will offer mental hazards
Control your action
As thought misfire accident
Check your medical aid
Before the consciousness blockade
Check your sense, in reality,
While your brain cells are in casualty
As you stand in crowds
You mind is gathering clouds
They see you while you are in "ICU"...

Out of Time
I'm in the ICU
I think somewhere in Cincinnati
a city I do not know that well.

I'm hooked up to tubes and machines
they buzz and beep regularly.
I think it must be nighttime
there are no windows
but the shadows are deep.

Suddenly the machines start screaming
rushing feet hurry near.
Silence crashes into silence.

A day later
I am at home making plans
for the trip to the hospital
as if nothing yet had happened
and nobody died....

War and Warriors
Goodbye said in an ICU
No goodbye at the other frontline
A shot to the head
Elsewhere, a shot to revive
Fear destroys.
A doctor intervenes to stop a forever-goodbye
Elsewhere doctor fights to be a survivor
Good bye to a culture
In a dark corridor is the new human endeavour
Goodbye- a language in vernacular
In silence and broken connections
In every conceivable horror
Witness this last wars of warriors
Despairing universe has set the sun on fire....

Good To Hear and Fear Did Disappear
Linda said Winslow is a good cardiologist.
She said it’s really good she only has the
oxygen on her nose. Good news and we
are happy that she seems to be getting
back to normal again.
Above is from our neighbor who once
worked in ICU where Jill has been.

Good To Hear and Fear Did Disappear

This is good news and great to hear,
What will happen now my each fear,
About worried;
Had hurried,
Is all gone forever and did disappear.

Post Op
All senses suspended
I float in a deliciously numbing void
The return to consciousness is slow
Small unaccountable sounds assail
My brain
Olfactory nerves sense strange smells
It’s the optic senses that awaken last
Eyelids feel like one ton weights pressing down
Gigantic effort to life one up
A harsh white blinding radiance
Hits my optic nerves
Slowly I perceive tubes and machines
Around me
The picture coheres
Into an ICU
I am en route to recovery post op...
