Out of Time

I'm in the ICU I think somewhere in Cincinnati a city I do not know that well. I'm hooked up to tubes and machines they buzz and beep regularly. I think it must be nighttime there are no windows but the shadows are deep. Suddenly the machines start screaming rushing feet hurry near. Silence crashes into silence. A day later I am at home making plans for the trip to the hospital as if nothing yet had happened and nobody died.

Chilling poem, carried with all your usual skill. The gravity of the situation almost a sub plot to the noise of machines, life's routines. Stops one in the glare of a single thought.
