Premium Member Elk

Elk
   slowly walk
      grazing off open paths
         a distant bugling call

Hunter
   hunkered down, still
      open sight

Premium Member Snow

Snuggled and hunkered down in winter clothes

Nestled warm in a winter wonderland

Only parts in sight are their eyes and nose

Wee ones out to play who can barely stand

Premium Member Tom Turkey Evades the Axe Again

Tom Turkey's doom again was kept at bay

He wasn't picked for Thanksgiving entree

Hunkered down to keep his head

         His pals were victims instead

Tom survived to live for another day

The Storm

The wind whipped
The bent tree
The tea sipped
The cut knee

The suffering reasoned
The brave hunkered down
The meat was seasoned
The stranded wore a frown

The water rose
The stranded were fearful
Citizens sowed

smooth
sometimes I wonder
is this a living world?
no movement
no horizon
January
out on the bay
dog team hunkered down
like fur drifts
they sleep warm
as I,
laying back on the sled,
contemplate
the glare of
nothingness.

Charity

Can charity be only a few coins tossed
in the street? It is another day,
and we are all just as meek and poor
as the last. Did God hunkered down
in the wet hollow of the soon to be earth
think, They will love me for this, one at least
will love me for this?

Premium Member Comfy and Cozy

Skies are dark and foreboding
   Winter storm rolls in tonight
Commuters don't need any goading
   Hustle home before moonlight...

Now folks are back from the stores
   Hunkered down with their lovers
All comfy and cozy inside of doors
Tucked in tight 'neath snow's cover

Dear Covid Vaccine

Dear Covid-19 vaccine
I am glad your on the scene
I hope you gobble up that bug
and kill that nasty thug
That kept us hunkered down
With a worried look and a frown
But with two shots in the arm
Your working like a charm
And now as we move about from place to place
we now are seeing a more smiling face

Premium Member Meanwhile Back At the Ranch

Visibility's dropped to near-zero
   Thermometer's plummeting too
Ocean tempest tossing and turning
Spraying the nerves of the crew

Deck swabbed by torrential rain
   Passengers hunkered down below
Afternoon's slipped into deep shadows
   Danger's pulse glowers and grows...

Back on shore, weather's sunny
   Gentle breezes, calm and warm
Ignorance is sheerest bliss
When it comes to cruel ocean storms

As Predicted

The storm came as predicted;
It wasn’t a surprise.
We’d canceled plans as every
Weather forecast did advise.

With lots to keep us busy,
We hunkered down indoors
And even did some online shopping.
(Easier than stores!)

The snow’s still blowing sideways;
The roads have hidden ice
But in our cozy haven
It feels comfortable and nice.

Tomorrow we must travel;
I hope the storm abates.
We’ll wait until the morning
To see what trial awaits.

Reel Life

Celluloid escape magic
to another reel life
perhaps with Sundance and Butch
or was it Mister Tibbs?

Hunkered down in the cool
darkness of an afternoon,
hands all buttery,
rocked within a theatre's cocoon
while learning the meaning of a Classic
or song and dance man,
the terrors of imagination,
mysteries of sea and sky.

Not a mirror of my life
but a myriad of human emotions
evoked by this still affordable luxury
that remains a great escape.

Premium Member Hunkered Down

Hunkered Down Written: by Miracle man 3-26-2020 We currently are facing an uncertain future, nothing like my eighty-one years has seen yet. Wounds beyond closing with staple or suture, providing the world reasons, for many to fret. Let our faith assures us that “this too shall pass” and until that happens we must all hunker down. individually it seems worse for the aging class, prayer won’t cause glower but reduces your frown.

Life Interrupted By Corona

life interrupted by corona

we live in a strange world
life interrupted by corona
the virus spread throughout the world
disrupting everything

putting life on hold
as more people
hunkered down
waiting for the virus

to pass over us
like in biblical times
the virus
will test us all

life interrupted
on hold
until the virus
spreads through the world

and then
we will all
go back
to life interrupted

Premium Member A Bay Town Storm

Listen to poem:
The eastern gale swept o'er the bay tonight,
As rising seas climbed up the sandy beach,
It pushed and forced its way beyond the bight,
And those who tried to stay, they did beseech,
They boarded in and hunkered down so tight,
Those need of care got aid if in their reach,
The stormy night gave way to calm daylight
Some minor damage said in Mayor's speech,
No deaths had been reported, shed some light,
A wiser lesson learned that storm did teach.

Premium Member Three Little Kittens

Three little kittens who lost their mittens were mewing with a sigh
Don’t worry, kittens, said Mr. Smittens, Santa is on his way by.
Santa hung up some cozy warm stockings and put the kitties inside.
They loved their new home, it was a great place to hide.

During a snow storm and a mountain land slide,
They stayed in their mittens, and none of them cried.
Let’s hibernate, suggested a smart kitten named Clyde.
Great idea! Said his sisters, and they hunkered down inside.
