The Way Things Are
Kids today cannot resist;
Technology entices,
So from our grands, we won’t be missed
When left to their own devices!

parents release
tiresome grip
let go

kisses fly forth
in giggles
from lips

wings of angels
strung around
my neck

pearlescent glow
twinkling eyes
of grands

synergetic
euphoric
sweet love

Magic Tricks
A new story I read to the grands
Led to magical spells and commands.
They performed several tricks
Trying hard to transfix,
Hiding various things in their hands.

Oh, if magic I could engineer,
With my powers I would persevere
Using wizarding skills
Adding all the known frills
To make Covid-19 disappear!...

Une Caresse De L'Univers
Les bras du cœur sont grands ouvert
C'est le temps dit chanté
Venez en profiter
Lance-moi vos sourires
Je vais même vous faire rire
Notre destin est libre
Voilà, l'équilibre
Dieu protège et rejoint
Seigneur, je te retiens
Au fond de mon cœur
Où demeures
La profondeur
Merci Seigneur
La suprématie
Bonjour mes nouveaux amis...

The grands arrive with books that we will read.
The cats are bored, and they need letting out.
Green Knight and Mary Poppins, yes indeed!
Princess Penelope’s future’s in doubt.

See, Wednesday is for books and poetry.
Before I know it, these grands will be grown.
Our time together goes so fast for me;
soon they will read to children of their own....

Mystery

Appearing as

Mysteries of her life..

Rich mysteries she says:

Lost in a cornfield

Age 4..with Burke

A venture too far

Into the mystery..

The mysteries of

Animals

Singing

Cycling and running..

And her children

Grands and greats..

Over 90 years..

An inspiration

Rising in this

Christmastime as

Mystery......

Two spiders dance cross ivory keys
The sounds they make reprise songs of trees
Phantom fingers flick like legs from hands
Over blacks and whites on baby grands
Every touch, every note played with care
Silken chords 'n tones flow through the air
This music written by nature's mind
From its tips to human hearts it finds
Flying digits riff rare rhapsodies
Prancing predators play melodies...

Today
The groundhog said we’ll soon have spring
And later we’ll hear JoLo sing.
In Melbourne, Novak’s still the king
On this, a gloomy Sunday.

Impeachment’s hit a welcome pause
While Dershowitz invents new laws
Yet I am happy, just because
Today will be a fun day.

The grands will pay a visit soon
To liven up the afternoon.
To have them here is such a boon
It’s like a prize I’ve won day!...

A Simple Joy
Find a plastic container
(Its cover should fit)
And into that cover
Cut out a small slit.

Procure a small package
Of poker-style chips,
The red, white and blue ones,
Just right for small grips.

Present to a child
(From toddler-age up)
And watch her delight
As she fills up that cup.

My children enjoyed this
And now, too, the grands,
The basics of pleasure
A child understands....

Eighty-five
Eighty-three-
we're so blessed.

Three aged kids
five grown grands
two small greats.*

Pray we stay
well- to watch
our babes grow.

Tooth Fairy Pillows
With some time on my hands
(Must I translate? I’m bored!)
I discovered material
That I had stored.

So with needle and thread
And some stuffing in tow
I stitched 2 little pillows,
Relaxing to sew.

One for each of the grands
With a pocket on top
For a tooth or the money
The fairy will swap.

There’s just one little glitch –
I will be quite bereft
If I see them at last
With no baby teeth left!...

The Manekken Pis
The Manekken Pis
flowers at his little feet
mourning senseless death

In sorrow for the people of Brussels, and for all whom are victims of cruelty.

(The bronze statue on the corner of Rue de l'Etuve and Rue des Grands Carmes was made in 1619 by Brussels sculptor Hieronimus Duquesnoy the Elder, and is to Brussels what the Statue of Liberty is to Manhattan, or Big Ben is to London.)

(April 1 2016)...

No One Drop of Royal Blood
No one drop
of royal blood
in my genes

funny,isn't it

i know
my grandparents
were farmers
my grand-grands
fishermen
my grand-grand-grands
were just soldiers
fighting for king
and queen
they died
nobody knows when
they died
nobody knows how
the only thing
i know for sure
my parents were
rednecks
which makes me
ultimately
a poor redneck-poet
that all he want
is sing
no one drop of royal blood
no chance to be
a king
and doesn't give a rip
about it!...

Inviting yourself to your daughter’s for dinner:
One of those things you can declare a winner.
We take the meal; we’ve got plenty to share,
And all of the mess ends up staying down there.

Smoked mac-n-cheese and some barbecue pork,
Cooked down so tender, you’ll just use a fork.
Toss up a salad with fresh tasty greens,
I’m hoping that they have some homemade ice cream.

Read Ecclesiastes and you'll understand:
A joy midst the toils is a meal with your grands....

Today
Today I did some shopping
And my exercise as well.
I visited my kids and saw
The grands, for just a spell.

An ordinary Sunday, but
For one thing on my mind –
This date’s the one on which my dad
Left earthly life behind.

It happened many years ago
But when this day rolls ‘round,
A sadness fills my heart that is
Both subtle and profound.

Yet all I thought about
While every hour slipped on by
Was that now, today, some other people’s
Dads will also die....

G Day
Most Jewish people name their kids
For someone who’s deceased,
Or if they don’t, their first initial
Might be used, at least.

My father, George, was born today
In 1924,
Though when my son was born
He wasn’t with us anymore.

So Geoffrey, spelled the English way,
As tribute to my dad,
Is here with me today, a date
That’s always somewhat sad.

Of course, my father’s on my mind
But life makes its demands
And George would be delighted by
Both Geoffrey and the grands....

Mothers' Day On Lockdown
Got a Kindle for a gift,
A present sweet and caring
Especially since lack of books
Had got me quite despairing.

I’ve never wanted one before,
Preferring paper pages
But access has been limited
As virus warfare wages.

Though stuck at home, I, too, received
Some calls and home-made greetings
On cards created by the grands
Displayed at FaceTime meetings.

To celebrate on lockdown
May seem slightly incomplete
Yet to feel that love connection
Is a most delightful treat!...
