Goldfinches

goldfinches feeding
many yellow and black stripes
bunches of finches
forming a single creature
a yellow jacketed wasp
see the wasp devouring

Gathering of the Golldrinches Goings-

Why aren't any grey, green goldfinches going to the grubby, greedy goodies
gatherings?

blooming and bobbing
  flower power head turner~
      feasting goldfinches

Spring Birds-Hc

one red cardinal
sings to two goldfinches, as
three spring robins prance

One bright red cardinal sings his two spring mating songs
as goldfinches watch three robins prance, signs winter is gone

December

Silver haired, the year
rests in the field.
Crows gather
on the sycamore bones.
The day is like glass.
Winter lurks
in the shadows.

In brittle glades,
papery pods protect
the last seeds.
Spiky coneflowers stand tall;
the goldfinches had their harvest.
Everywhere signs
of a cycle
fulfilled.

Watching From My Kitchen Window-Jq

Red robin searches for worms
Goldfinches out in the storm
Hummingbirds flutter about
A red squirrel chirps and spouts

Worms near wet feathers of red
Storm drops on hummingbird's head
About, a finch lands on seed
Spouts from red squirrels with greed

Spring Dreams

Springtime
Dreaming of warmth
Flower stems peeking out
Vibrant, rainbow colored petals
Warm morning breeze wafting of lilac blooms
Hummingbirds sipping at feeders
Chartreuse goldfinches sing
Perching in trees
Springtime

A Pair

They were a pair
 a match set.
He, brilliant yellow with black lined wings,
she, a mottled green tinged brown.

As she ate seedlings from the echinacea
 he waited and watched.
they each sing out their separate songs
a tweeting when to move on get along.

A whistling stirred by the wind
 recalling where to
where they've been
 Goldfinches on breeze.

Unusual

One goldfinch rest upon a weed Eats a few seeds from the spirea Lands on birdbath's rim, drinks his fill Across my vision, black butterfly unreal two unusual sightings in a few minutes.... Georgia summer morn
We don't usually see Goldfinches here unless it is in their spring migration or their fall migration, so I was shocked. We don't see many of those black butterflies either.

Goldfinch

On cleared and cultivated land,
exotic weeds and thistle stand,
whose seed is sought in great demand,
so farmers gain a helping hand.

This alien now does belong;
common is this bird’s distinctive song.
Spring courtship and a breeding throng;
autumn flocks keep bonding strong.

A buffy wash midst shades of brown,
and red-faced with a blackened crown,
gold bars on wings; prefer a town,
Goldfinches never let us down.

Nature In Spring

Trees and shrubs are slowly waking, showing new growth and buds
Crocuses and daffodils are pushing up through the snow and ice
Snow is melting and the grounds are thawing into fresh mud
Eagles and hawks are out soaring in the sky looking for mice
Goldfinches feeding on seed are appearing more yellow and bright
Spring is a great time to enjoy all of nature's new delights

Moonlight Ensemble

From my front porch I hear, the music of evening guitars,
Flowing softly on breezes, under the magic of pearl stars,
Busy goldfinches flit singing, and I can glimpse red Mars,
Mellow music of summer, and moonlight's rapture is ours.

Nature draws upon its beauty, from deepest of reservoirs,
Adding to the happy heart's memory, with lasting powers,
A summer night of music, and frog and cricket repertoires,
Such days will be remembered, in hued autumn's memoirs.

Returning Wings

Where are the birds that I use to see?
Have they been captured and cannot flee?
Did they migrate to a warmer bog?
Or did they get lost in the fog.

A few perhaps gather here to feed
Splash in the bird bath and do what they need
Perched amongst the lilac branches
Goldfinches adding color which enhances.

The calling sounds and the fluttering wings
Such a delightful joy that it brings,
It’s not the weather I can’t blame that
Maybe a delayed start on the trip back.
