The Name Jesus

Despondent, falling
Or more dire
That foothold, beneath
Now gives way;
The green Earth's, and life's!
As sinks day.

Needful of uplift
A hand's, heart's
Both soft, for mercy
As strong lit
Sky, Heaven, rending
Shout, scream it.

Shadow

My shadow has departed
A dim luminescence has not the power to prevail
So casts my follower to the depths
To wallow in ineffable sorrow
Where heartache mutates to anguish, to scourge, to death
And lucidity has no foothold
And light, no admirer

Premium Member Love and Wrath

In came the cool fretting wind
Unwrapping the gathering waves
Unsettling a once scenery mind
Into a fist full of doubt
We stretched to view
The troubling distance
Unrevealing a present danger
Splashing and slashing
Every foothold on reality

There's always blood at the end of the road.
Every step forward is a foothold earned.
Backward tendencies erode our present,
sending the present into general nothingness-
a blissful abode of Ignorance inviting.
Wisdom waits while watching in the wings.

Premium Member just a fireplace

my grandchildren run toward the rock wall
looking for a foothold
ready to climb
we are in a fancy hotel in Utah
They are standing on the mantle of the thirty- foot rock fireplace
Just a fireplace, I tell them, not a climbing wall
they are vastly disappointed

No Foothold

no foothold
by Michael R. Burch

there is no hope;
therefore i became invulnerable to love.
now even god cannot move me:
nothing to push or shove,
no foothold.

so let me live out my remaining days in clarity,
mine being the only nativity,
my death the final crucifixion
and apocalypse,

as far as the i can see ...

Respect is the only thing that will

Without respect it is hard to find peace,
Without respect Love may be one sided,
Without respect we tend to become hard of hearing,
Without respect opportunities to grow are limited,
Without respect hate finds it easy to gain a foothold,
Without respect it is easy to lie and cheat,
Without respect a short life will seem long.

Somewhere In the World

Hide away, my child
Hidden dangers lurk beneath
Innocence prevail

Hatred manifests
Alarmingly disguises
As contorted love

Lost society
Pressured into submission
Subterfuge action

Gains foothold, at last
With enlightened applauses
New generation

Into the soul's well
Restitution shines beacon
Forgiveness takes time

Death Tree

It's roots are a foothold
To a mainstay stem
That shoots arms so strong
To hold person and string

Rope and note in his bag
Dire fully, he scrutinizes it
Till he locates a stronger hand
Fit to send him to dead-land

Throngs are amassed, astounded
Officers seek for testaments
His loved ones are richly wailing
Now he's like a drooping ceiling

The Forgotten

The portal opens and all is illuminated.
There it is, concealed.
Out it comes.
Curiosity gains a foothold,
and the top is timidly raised,
to inquire upon the contents.
The offensive stench
aggressively invades the Old Factory.
Rapidly, the cover slams shut.
What was that?
How long has it been there?
It is delivered non stop to the rubbish.
That is the last time
I let the fridge go!

Who does not wish to solve
The enigma of socks
That go AWOL in the wash?
We count them into the machine
And then we try to count them out.

Yet ,no matter how carefully we try,
How often one disappears,
Lost in a black hole of the stratosphere,
Off floating in another universe,
Searching for a foothold,
Safe for socks.,
A sole survivor
Of an alien abduction
To spin yarns for eternity.

Premium Member Color and Diversity

The world's grey. Slowly, methodically,
Feathers from colorful birds have been burned.
Sheep in a fog on a snowy mountain.
One man thought uniformity equaled
Superiority, ugly furor.
Their ashes floated down all around us
There's no color left in this sooty world.
Beauty's palette swirled with color beckons.
Diversity screams for a slight foothold.
The heart just withers in colorless worlds.

Wisdom grows alone
darkness eyes attend
wakes the light slumberer

Deep in wet dreams
respect waves the buried
grounds for divorce

Wind weather attitudes
cries mount
lies draw out

Greens wild the untamed
beast burdens the walled
shaft and base flowers

the unschooled gather names
foothold finds rest
virgin aroused the sleeper

Taste for the end
tomorrow another day
what was paradise?

wash-rinse-spin

i pivot between
the unknown, and i know not what

life has left me dangling
from my mind

uncertainty mocks
my every foothold

reality teases me
then shrugs off its own beliefs

I am disillusioned by wisdom,
made foolish by every thought

I cling to a arabesque
masquerading as a mystic dance

yet
let me spin on

for somewhere ahead

i hope

a stop sign
will slow this dream down

Premium Member Trick Or Treat

Careless stepping
over the sole
onto the tongue
taking foothold

tingling the leg crawl

bravery perhaps
unwise direction
the venomous creep
dreadful little faces
with large vengeance
fire-ants the masks
their own

next one’s privates
the thought

covered and bare
we all have them
both – denial no
protection

ring the ominous
and painfully dance, or flee
be called

Over There

Overrun, overcome, overthrow
Victory is living out the day
Ethnic cleansing the result as
Reign of terror is the product of

Terrorism that spawns within dictatorship
Human annihilation by rebel armies in control
Extreme measures employed to halt third-world
Regimes acquiring a foothold in democracies, the
Enemy is looking in from over there my fellow
Countrymen, the enemy is at our gates.

New Recognition

Science's foothold in matter
over many centuries told
is slipping
as transparency arrives..
The particles sought
are illusive
they seem here and then not..
But there is still excitement
on their discovery
even if short-lived..
Something more exciting
may be awaiting
recognition..yes..recognition..
Recognition of that which
is permanent
in which the short-lived
produce their excitement...

Premium Member Addiction

Addiction.
An invisible devil,
he looks for an opportunity,
a foothold,
and starts to grow.
He tricks you,
taking over your mind,
taking over your identity.
Your friends and family can see him,
but to you, he's invisible,
so, you discard your friends.
You discard your family,
and take on new friends,
who support the devil
which possessed you.
You weaken
as he gets stronger.
First step:
Can you see him?

The Unknown

Not knowing tears your insides apart.
nervousness takes over.
Threatens to overcome you.
Thoughts bounce around in your head. What will it be?
What will it not be?
Threatens to overcome you.
Terror takes a foothold and will not let go.
Threatens to overcome you.
Questions unanswered are questions forgotten.
Threatens to overcome you.
It will be as if you were thrown into the mix of it all. It will consume you.
Threatens to overcome you.

Need Not

There is no need
There are no things
There is not a plead
There are no dreams

To perhaps feel
To once more see
I knew...
I can once more be

Within a different light
Beyond a different hope
Between a different night
With life from a different scope

A placement... a spot
A foothold to simply stand
A displacement... a plot
A placid to simply misunderstand

There are dreams
There belongs a plead
There are things
There is not a need

Belly Buttons

Belly Buttons

A funny thing, the belly button
We’ve all got one you know
While most of them are innies
Some innie just won’t go
The innies all collect some lint
The outies simply can’t
The lint can find no foothold
Due to the button’s slant
Some of them are jeweled
Some “Ah Natural”
And most of them stay covered
So no one can really tell
Now if you all are wondering
Just what my button’s like
Use your imagination
No hint from Uncle Mike

New Year

Years end like waterfalls,
crashing into the next unknown
and plunging, grabbing at some
tangible foothold to drag
oneself upright.

Years end like sunsets,
drawn out and knowing,
an omnipotent circle
repeating, familiar.

Years end like a snowman’s
drooping smile of realisation,
a lost button, scarf askew
in a dozen regrets.

Years start like a lightbulb,
a flash, bright - a spark
and surge, with an end date
that tick tocks tick tocks t
