New Year

Years end like waterfalls,
crashing into the next unknown
and plunging, grabbing at some
tangible foothold to drag
oneself upright.

Years end like sunsets,
drawn out and knowing,
an omnipotent circle
repeating, familiar.

Years end like a snowman’s
drooping smile of realisation,
a lost button, scarf askew
in a dozen regrets.

Years start like a lightbulb,
a flash, bright - a spark 
and surge, with an end date
 that tick tocks tick tocks t

Thomas, I liked this very much. The sentiment was very lyrical, even without rhyme. It would have placed higher if it had not had what looked like a typing error on the end. A "t" where every other line had a full stop. I apologize if this was a special effect - I did scratch my head over it for a while.
