There once was a man named Art

Once there was a parson named Ezra Heap

Whose Sunday sermons were profoundly deep

      The louder Ezra implored

         The more his congregants snored

He could never arouse them from their sleep...

Apprehension
The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
   Manifests uncertainty.
   Stark staring eyes gaze fearfully.
Only heartbeats, and the ticking clock
Break silence; then as a whistle blows
   Each mask unfurls in victory.

Premium Member Faces
The apparition of these faces in the crowd
Each look, each thought, each worried brow
With eyes that see and mouths that speak
And lives so varied, so wonderfully unique
Are known by Him, both great and small
Who created each face, the Lord of All.

You Are a Poet
Your pen is the most amazing tool you have
Like a skier looking down the slopes
You stare at a blank page
Your fingers twitch back and forth
Beauty incarnate follows your words
Freedom ensues
Speaking out like a thousand voices are your own
You have no limitations
You are a poet

Refreshed
I was convinced that the spirit left me
couldn`t drink my Pepsi
thinking I was poisoned by the Nesle
gotta get that sugar cane
gunna get some crooked fame
I`m to blame
Runnin` up this hill like I`m game
Say it plain
God in heaven came to make rain
My brain
Feels restored and I`m alive again

Numb
Green eyes, shaggy hair
Split up lips that gasp for air
Twenty beers and a lawn chair

Mother left, brother died
Doesn't know where he'll sleep tonight
Twenty beers on ice

The sharp whistle of a train
Brings to mind his bro again
His little bro, his best friend

At night he's gone
No sign till dawn
Just Twenty empty bottles on the lawn

Flying
The apparition of these faces in the crowd
of the wonderful trapeze artist as he swings and flies unbound
so many faces in the crowd children trying to see around
every head turns and sways like the soft music from far way
as they watch in dismay this beautiful artist on display.

Snail's Pace
Summer
And the city air tastes like a dream
Mirages above sidewalks at eight a.m
The freeway kicks and screams like a spoiled child
But I won't give in to them
Stress
It is written on so many faces
I'm sorry, but I won't be taking their places
I walk like a snail at a pace where I'm free
While people drive like lunatics
To go home and watch TV

Writers Block
The tip of your tongue is hard to find
You search and seek and stumble to rhyme
The page is blank and stays that way
Your poets wings begin to fade
There's not a single word in stock
You're sick indeed with writers block
You try and try but can't be freed
There's nothing there for us to read
So put a bandage on your pen
Tomorrow try your verse again

Winter's Relief
Let winter come
And freeze the sky
No more will shadows cast
Let showers turn to heaps of snow
With gardens hidden deep

Let working cease
Migration fly
Let herds to safety dash
Farmers idle, fires glow
No fields left to reap

My picket fence
Blockaded high
No perfect cobbled path
Let winter come, and snowstorms blow
I need some time to sleep

Blood In My Veins
You're foolish my brother
What a pickle we're in
On a street full of people
You had to pick him

The soberest fighter
Who knows how to win
Is landing hard punches
From your eyes to your chin

His friends from the party
Are joining the fray
I can see by the numbers
It won't be your day

But since you are losing
I must do the same
I won't just stand by
With your blood in my veins

Past Pain
she rarely spoke of the past.
when the world turned her down,
Her loneliness and despair made her
dumb,
incompetency and ineffectual she felt.
she never wanted to speak about it

When she does try to speak.
The bloodshot eyes flood,
Downhearted and gloomy,
In a low tone,
Allow life take it's course.
Turn your back on the world.
And we left dumbfound.

The Atrophy of Poetry
Dearest Ezra,

did you ever dream one day,
that all the songs should cease?
No music in the cafes play
since the baddest news arrived

A stone cold note told of the change,
no time to grieve, or make our peace
did it wither, man, or did we contrive
in sympathy with the new and strange?

No church bells rang; no sermons read,
a simple phrase of passing, plain
ol' frowny face; sweet poetry's dead
let no one sing, nor dance again...

Shoulder Man
How could I forget
This battle isn't over yet
Satan offers up some short term gain
Unto an everlasting death

The rebellion pushes me to join
And it's eternal blood their spilling
With God I have the strength to fight back
But I am not always willing

"Take heart," says Jesus, from the edge of the road
"Did I forsake you? Would I ever?
Lock shields with me, my child, you'll see
We can beat this foe together!"

The Other Side
Through the fires of a sinful life
How can we see the other side?
Satan wishes we would stay this way
That this is how we'll die

But we should know the cross we bear is spent
Christ was already crucified
We should know in Him we have a friend
In death He cherished all our lives

And God in heaven too will make us new
He's wishing we will stay alive
That free in Him we'll be with Him
Forever on the other side
