One Recluse's Perspective
Alike to war, with as
Little relief
In holding one's dugout
Of anxious doubt
Life, the long wait. Broken
Up by the odd
Shell blast of excitement.
Fun-charged event....

River Line Tourist
RIVER LINE TOURIST
National Geographic frame:
pleasure of plum water lilies,
under potent panama sky.
A dugout canoe rows us through.
Embera with beaded skirt, our rudder.
Caiman perched on edge of Chagris River.

Return To Sender
Those enemy soldiers, they weren’t too well trained
They weren’t gonna take back the ground that we’d gained
But I thought I’d copped it with no shred of doubt
When that hand grenade landed in my dugout
I’m telling you boys, my resolve didn’t crack
I just pulled the pin out and threw it right back...

Poppies
Countless poppies now grow
Where men had once stood,
Or had peered from a dugout,
Or had hidden in a wood,
Where bullets had hailed and
Young lives were squandered,
As poisoned gas smothered
And big guns thundered,
Those in charge must have surely
Questioned and pondered.
Poppies grow in peace now,
Gunfire no longer heard,
Let this be the case forever
For PEACE - is the golden word....

Walk Off Home Run
To a relief pitcher, this is infuriating.
With his team leading, it is the ninth inning.
Inability to hold the lead can be humiliating.
With a two run lead, and two runners on base,
the batter hits the ball right out of the place.
The pitcher was unable to get the third out.
With the game lost, it’s a long walk to the dugout.
This can ruin a relief pitcher’s night without a doubt.

Imbibing the Chagris River
IMBIBING THE CHAGRIS RIVER
We descend into a dugout canoe, reflective eyes
smile, assimilating each green leaf, each push of the oar.
Fertile lily pads, whisper welcome, and fervent goodbyes.
Imbibing the Chagris River, we glide. Feet walk us o’er
sand bars. Curious caiman gather at the river’s edge.

Un Ran Dugout Batter
-backwards ran he 4 bases he’s called OUT in dugout before he bats…
~
despite the pitcher
a pro, batter runs from home
whilst watching the field
heated summertime
player-ball doesn’t strike out
you see he’s not here

The Secret Life
“What is this strange place we find ourselves in
trapped in the open we are free within”
The speedboat skipped like a stone on the lake,
The Commander took charge for the crew’s sake.
If the patient died there’d be hell to pay,
But the surgeons fawned when he saved the day.
“War thundered and whined around the dugout”,
Yet the Captain strode on with a brave shout.
His wife brought him down from his fond muse -
“Walter Mitty, where are your overshoes?”
