Autumn Leaves
The gold-clad and dying spiral onto a woodland coverlet. Above, a rust tinged canopy trembles on a warm breeze.

I wear a coverlet of haze, from those summers I remember, where my barefoot toes touched fragrant grass, that withered in September

Premium Member Purrs of a Poetess
The bed is ready with fresh
linens
All smell like fresh lavender.
The fluffy pillows and laced blue
coverlet,
Makes this poetess say goodnight
and like a cat does P-U-R-R!

Dreams of princes and castles spin her
fast away.
Into a magic land, where unicorns frolic
and play!

Love
Come; sit for a bit
on sunlit verdant coverlet
with uncluttered mind

Welcome sweet Wisdom,
and let the Word
sow blossoms of Love.

Gardener’s incessant
sun-shower
nourish the fruit
of the kingdom
as roots bore deep

Leaves greet the heavens
enduring special grace
inviting my soul
reflecting its rainbow

My Favorite Place
With eagerness I make my way to my favorite place
Where gratitude floats freely above every head
Where happiness is the coverlet that embraces each bed
Where laughter is contagious and strikes the young and old
Where love is a daily garment that adorns every soul
Where joy is a feather that nudges all to soar
Where the house of contentment has a welcoming door
This is my favorite place...

"Thriller" upon eerie coverlet of faint moonlight midnight creeps to touch tombstones of cursed undead haunting entities delight in spooking night zombies open coffins to ravish with dread feasting upon flesh and bone in vampy style tasting blood from jugular...victim defile staring motionless submissive to witch chant enticed by love ... death charms innocence to pant.

stars hide - muffled,
in a blizzard of flurries -
the screams of owls echo
through a once silent wood.

wet snow settles - frozen tears
on the skeletal arms
where oaks and maples shiver
and birches bow - forsaken?

will they break before morning...

was hope held too tightly
and hugged beyond welcome?

perhaps there, under the
   stratus coverlet, or
horizons born in a different wish

tomorrow's shattered tears
will melt warm......

Death disrobes the body of our fancy garments,
And clothes us with more common fashion:
A mere loincloth of sky blue silk,
So that we may feel the warm passion,
Of resurrection’s gorgeous spring
And the spiritual blessings it will bring.

So sleep on calmly with Jesus,
Beneath your coverlet of blue skies,
And know that the summer garden of ease
Will be there when you arise,
Like a lovely blossom given birth
From a shriveled seed in the earth....

Shatter
Shatter

Scarlet petals they fall
With the iron tracts they leave
Busted on the tears of snow
Coverlet for our memory

Who else is there to blame
For the silence in the night
The bottle empty of its whisky
Rushes headlong to the wall

But sleepless rests within these trembling hands
To die one more time
As I close my eyes
You never knew its taste upon my lips

And now in the darkness
I can at least see my heart
Iron petal it falls
In scarlet tracts...

The Future Does Not Wait
THE FUTURE DOES NOT WAIT

The future does not wait
For you, me, or anyone
It has its private agenda
And no help to render
However bright the sun
For a few, it is just fate

The present remains still
As each moment passes
Whatever will be, will be
Either pleasure or agony
Seen through dark glasses
Understanding almost nil

Past was once a future
So easy now to forget
Stuck in time long gone
Now a mere skeleton
Wrapped in a coverlet
Sewn tight with a suture...

Premium Member Paulette - 1
Paulette was a happy brunette who now is forlorn and upset for something, she cannot forget. She backed up- ran over her pet while driving her brand new Corvette and killed her dear poodle, Suzette. Tears flowing, she laid a rosette next day on a pink coverlet once used in her own bassinet- and cried at the grave with regret. Fields of Crimson Poppies
David J Walker

Tonight I sleep
            in fields
Of crimson poppies

Sunset has
	    Come and gone
And I alone

Await dawn
            With brothers
Lined in rows

And this is how the
            order goes
Red is the coverlet

that fills my eyes
             And tilts my head
to see the coming sunrise

Promises made
            by sainted chaplains
Yet unrealize

There will be shade
	    In the aftermath
Of the storm...
