Botanical Duet

Nature knows that smell forbids.
Aphids avoid marigolds.
Match for a reflex magnet

Spring
It’s not the vernal equinox.
It is not the last snow.
It is not when the last
Of the botanical
winterkill is managed.
It is when the urge
Brings you out to the garden
And the warmth of the soil
Makes you caress it…
And then you must smell it....

Why
Alluring wanton eyes
I see them
I feel them
On me
And through me
But why?
Why, when I should be at home?
The sweet smell of a botanical garden
Captivating
Intoxicating
This lovely flower
Statuesque and willowy
Bewildered...
She comes closer
But I ask.... Why?...

Botanical Garden

When she arrives
in sunlight,
orchid ribbons flowing
in her hair,
an orchid dress rising,
she finds the rest of us
are standing there,
simply unaware
that only she can hear
the applause
of a thousand orchids
break the air.

Let’s use Majorelle blue, okay?

Premium Member Another Jewel Sunrise
Pink inks of dawn glow
through a dissolving fog
lifting botanical shadows
alive with enchanting birds.
Rustling leaves stir the world awake.

Over the horizon a bustling city throbs,
a million or more people
going to their jobs,
missing this quiet solitude.

Radios thump. They drive
bumper to bumper,
eyes glued to the freeway.

Another jewel sunrise
slips right by them....

Premium Member Imagination
This book of botanical images
in sepia depict the petals, veins, leaves
of exotic plants. Listed alphabetically are illustrations
with a reader's favorites’ marked with string;
carefully indexed, scientific, dun-drab
they conceal the dream of translucent petals,
leaves that reflect green light, adaptive roots.

In idle fancy, a dreamlike flower unfolds
upright from the page.

Birdsville Sanctuary
My neighbour
wondered where all the birds were going to
"to my yard,"
I replied
the Cockatoos for the green almonds
Blackbirds and Mynas for ground cover insects
Crows bark-scavenging for borers and tree worms
Honeyeaters fighting all comers for flowering red gums pollen
Pigeons fossicking the soil minding their own business
to finish giant Fruit Bats
some say escapees from a botanical gardens cull
add a creepy aura at night....

I am sitting in front of an empty building.
Large red, white and blue sign says “for lease”.
What would I do here?
Creative writing center?
Art center?
Botanical garden?
Toy museum?
Clutter our Way or the Highway?
Birdbrains Anonymous?
Crones United?
Hag’s Homemade Brews?
Psychedelic Phenomenon?
Krutsinger’s Believe it or Rot?
Voodoo Dolls and Vampires?
The ideas are endless.
I dial the number, to find out what the rent is....
