Bauer Power
Ilene will go the extra mile
And do it with a charming smile
Climbing the walls
Can lead to falls
But bouncing back is Ilene's style!...

Twenty Words
Though contests may pique you,
Judges critique you.
Challenges push you;
Naysayers shush you.
Rhythms confine you;
Poems define you.

Quenched
Quenched

Whenever I’m feeling quite blah,
I will not unwind at a spa.
	I pour a cold beer.
	My woes disappear;
And all I can utter is…..Aaaah!

Is Ra Ill Question Mark
Salome just loved gingerbread
But Herod misheard what she said
Who wants a dead head
To bounce in their bed?
So she dashed to the John instead

The Eddie Bauer Coat
Ten years of work got me a coat
Eddie Bauer's name on it was the style
With hand out, I'd say Bauer, Eddie Bauer
Glad to meet you! Then I would smile.

Then one day a fellow asked me,
"Eddie Bauer with a clothes line is you?"
I said, "Well, believe it or not,"
"Out in my backyard, I have two!"...

Some Poems
Some poems are long and complex,
With imagery galore;
And some throw out ideas you think
You really should explore.

Some poems have gorgeous language,
Every adjective a gem;
But, if you haven’t guessed by now,
This isn’t one of them!

God Help Us When Afraid
God Help Us When Afraid

God help us, when we became afraid;
Through problems and fears will wade;
Experience sorrow,
Today and tomorrow,
Caused by sinners who have strayed.

Jim Horn

More people harmed in a synagogue
in Pittsburg. More to worry about.
Bauer obviously is German and may
be of Jewish ancestry. Another hate
crime....

Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer 1

(part one)

Generous expanses of gold and silver
thy lady ''Adele'' sing your song of a fleeting love
ornate thy garb of eligence worn in a celestial dream
eyes of thy suspect float thy gown searching in disarray
overlapping hands guard a heart of unknowing passion
a calm hope bleeds a woman of intrigue and of lust....

Premium Member A Ditty To a Poet From the City
Here is a little ditty
  To a poet from the City

She writes of common things
  Yet makes the routine sing

Her style is perfect rhyme
  Its beat is mighty fine

A chronicler of daily events
  She walks the dog, pays the rent

The subjects may be ordinary
  But her poetry is extraordinary

A tower of poetic power
  She is, of course, Ilene Bauer

Keep writing, Ilene. Love your poems!!...

Word of the Day
Today’s definition is BOWER,
A shelter of tree boughs and vines
Which sometimes has blossoms that flower,
With man-made or Nature’s designs.

It’s also a common misspelling
For Bauer, my married last name,
Despite all the products now selling
As Bauer, of clothes and skates fame.

Still, I like the “bauer” connection.
It conjures an image quite pleasant,
Much better, of course, on reflection,
Than its translated meaning of “peasant.”...

Our Mark
A dog who lifts his leg to pee
Against a trunk’s solidity
Just simply wants to leave his mark –
It lasts much longer than his bark.

An artist, in a matching fashion,
Leaves the markings of his passion.
Canvasses shout loud and clear –
I exist! I once was here…

Writers do the same with phrases,
Hoping thus to garner praises.
We all want to leave our mark
Before our destiny goes dark.

Immerse Yourself
The local health club has a sign
Encouraging recruits:
“Immerse yourself” and what it means
Is exercise pursuits.

The concept is a clever one –
The words sound so enticing.
You delve into a hobby
And immersion is the icing.

But working out is not, for some,
The means for self-improving;
And other ways exist to get one’s
Motivation moving.

For me, the message that the gym
Is trying to disperse
Is one I’ll tweak a bit ‘cause I’ll
Immerse myself in verse!

The Drone Guy
My ears perked up at Bauer
When the radio talked sports.
A player for the Indians,
By all the news reports,

Was set to pitch Game 2
(The Series winding towards the end)
When he had a "pinkie laceration,"
Needing time to mend.

He'll get to start Game 3, they hope,
His hobby left alone,
For Trevor Bauer's injury
Was blamed upon his drone.

When baseball Bauers hit the news,
(I've 2 of them to thank)
I won't claim kinship to the drone guy,
Just to Cousin Hank!*

(not true!)...
