the day is done
time to dim the lights
and focus on my heart

Two Haiku

Strokes after midnight
received a distant sad news
a swallow has flown

Watch over us dear
I kept my prayers for you
frosted in flowers

After Midnight - (Englyn)

Scores of white lilies bloom - slicing night air
with a deadly perfume.
Nostrils flicker and consume
scented ghosts haunting the room.

Footsteps In the Hall

After midnight
the pendulum stalls
Chimes to deaden
as darkness calls
A clanking chain
the haunt begins
Till daylight threatens
—the shadows dim

Festival of Light

Crackers in sky form sparkles, loud
As firework forms a fog of smoke
Houses gleam, with ribbons of light
Grandmothers chant prayers in temples
Endless firecrackers outside, even after midnight

A Violent Earthquake

It came after midnight as bells rang,
most people were asleep as buildings swayed,
light poles fell down empty lanes,
cars and buses crashed into trains,
smoke rose from gas lines as they exploded.

dig deeper dagger
whilst i hold the golden stake

The Joy On Sunday

J-anuary first after midnight
A-ims to brighten the blue;
Y-our birthday has come,
A-s well as the year that's
N-ew.

A-llow Saturday to pass,
N-ever let it stay;
N-either dusk nor twilight shall stop the joy on Sunday.

Midnight Song

You're a song that my heart keeps singing
Mostly after midnight when only the loneliest of birds still call
I'm answered in the whisper of night air
and a choir of crickets
While I sit murmuring softly to myself on the front steps

House Pest

House Pest

stomping around

mightily after midnight,

claiming this dwelling

and looking for something of delight...

unless someone ignites a light

then they're all fleeing in sheer fright

Running after Midnight is eerie
Passing mile twenty-one, weak and weary
All other runners finished early
A few quaint and curious are waiting
Some encouraging, some baiting
Only this and nothing more
Quoth my sore feet “Nevermore”

The Widow

She trusted this source

He hated her even more

playing games, calling of names

enough already

she lifts her spirits

she gathers her thoughts

another journey fought

another life, a newer view

as he vanishes after midnight.

Here we are on that lonesome road...
Crossing the same old paths once more
Why're you out here walkin' after midnight?
Just my luck ... with fewer lives left than before

'walkin After Midnight'

When death sent out its calling card
the heavens came in view
Psalms to reach the Angel’s ears
one voice had broken through
Grace within her every word
each feeling soul infused
Patsy singing from above
—to bless the chosen few

after midnight
on the edge,
dawn so far away:

in my dream
platitudes
cravings
concerns
             of the day
             hold sway:
clarity
of images
as vivid
             as day
yet
impasse
           hold sway
and...
         time...
appears
         to stand
still

Her apathetic attitude toward work
Caused many a boss a bit of irk
Fervent night lifer, listless all day
Many dead end jobs with little pay

At her desk she was listless and dull
Showed less energy than yesterday’s skull
Flash-mobbing and clubbing were her things
After midnight, her energy zings

The Doctor Said

“ No food and water after midnight! “,
The learned surgeon had said.
So at five to twelve, like a mouse,
A nurse crept up to my bed,
Eyeing the water and glass like cheese
On a platter, glowing hot red.
And as the clock struck twelve,
Into the darkness with MY water,
The nurse-mouse quickly fled !

                           ocean flows carefree
                           crescent moon forgotten fast

After Midnight

Branches are silent at this late hour
I raise my glass, say cheers to my mirror-image
I drink my beer and look up to the moon,
which leaves a whitish shimmer on the leaves.
My mind is drifting to the past,
to far away countries and to friends,
to different stars, the Southern Cross,
to southern skies, to southern life

Premium Member After Midnight

After midnight the moon dims down low
As the stars take center stage
Filling the sky glamorously
And the creatures of the night
Come out from hiding
Using the stars as their nightlight
My lover meets me under the willow tree
With a candle in one hand and a rose in the other
As breath-taking as the quiet early morn. After midnight

Double Celebration

M-ake January first morn
A-ble to meet Sunday;
R-ise of the beacon begins,
L-etting the chill fade away.
Y-our birthday has come, so does another fresh year;
N-ew dawn has broken, as the shadows disappear.

G-reeting you after midnight
I-s joyful to the occasion;
L-et Saturday evening pass,
I-t's a double celebration.

After Midnight

… starts the life
After one o’clock, the last train had gone
My window is open, listening the silent the silence
The distant, soft noise of the city…, so friendly
I love it, this is the best time for writing. Inspiring night
I love this life. Oh, the night. I am driven by the Dark

I drink
Oh night!
Cheers!
