Here's a fun Poetry Marathon poem inspired by Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849), and his famous poem, "The Raven." I originally published this in my 'Mile 9 Closed and Being Judged' blog post on 8/20/2025.

I have included my Marathon-themed poetry in my Poetry Marathon blog posts since 2019, usually at the end of the blog posts, but I never posted them to my poetry page. So now I'm taking the time to post them to my poetry page.

Running after Midnight is eerie
Passing mile twenty-one, weak and weary
All other runners finished early
A few quaint and curious are waiting
Some encouraging, some baiting
Only this and nothing more
Quoth my sore feet “Nevermore”

Your sore feets lament- "Nevermore", I really enjoyed. Loved the clever way you have ended your Marathon race, echoing Poe's phrase. Sad, you had to give up when there were only five more miles to cover.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment, Valsa. I like to think that despite his sore feet he will finish what he started, thereafter “nevermore.” After all, the #1 rule for marathoners is FINISH! Write on!
