The Doctor Said

“ No food and water after midnight! “, 
The learned surgeon had said.
So at five to twelve, like a mouse,
A nurse crept up to my bed,
Eyeing the water and glass like cheese
On a platter, glowing hot red.
And as the clock struck twelve,
Into the darkness with MY water,
The nurse-mouse quickly fled !
