Taken
on his way home

He drove too fast and fell asleep

Apple brought culture,
delightful extravaganza.
Fab group
harvest idiomatic jive.
Knockers, louts
many neutrals,
organized parasites, quietly rebel,
submit to uncompromising venom
when expediency yielded zealousness!

Oglala Lament: December, 1890
We cannot eat lies
or feast on empty promises
No more than the bison,
starving in the desert sand
We cannot clothe our children
as we run from the Wasichus
Our teepees torn and freezing
amidst the winter snows

In the Black of Night
(in memory of "Black")
Another soul has left this lonely place,
A place without end,
A time that will not stand still,
With one shot
She left this world as an unknown
Just another number,
Jotted down in the book of time
And thus gone in the black of night.

A Fine Wine
getting drunk
drinking her
fermented sweat
mixed with
a bouquet
of musk with
an aftertaste
unrelated
to anything ever
to touch
my palette
sweet but dry
she's full bodied
with a bite
of cinnamon spice
she goes down
smoothly aged
to perfection
a vintage

I do not know?
The Flower
Tranquil is the flower
that sits on the hill,
calm, peaceful -still
Doing its duty,
Endowing its beauty,
Gracing the land,
Affection at hand
No end to
its power,
Eternal,
the flower
A marvel
to view,
The Flower is you.....

For the Boy With the Furrowed Brow
Expectation
Is a wasted exercise.
Attempting to surmise
The content of a situation
Leads to misconceptions:
A woman cries,
A source of pride,
The setting of the sun;
Exchange it for another one
And stand aside.
Don't squander time
With speculations.

Me Without You -Part 2 To the Flower
.....Beyond that hill
not far away,
a barren land
filled with gray
A place where storms
command the skies,
A place where zealous
vultures fly
A place untouched
by the flower’s love,
So savagely damaged
by the rain from above
This land is me
when I’m sad and blue,
The land with no flower,
Me without You

Death of a Relative
My papaw died twenty-five years ago today.
It's been a quarter of a century since he passed away.
When he took a new medication, he became sick.
When Papaw took it, he turned out to be allergic.
If it hadn't been for Papaw, I wouldn't exist.
He died a long time ago and he's still missed.
(Dedicated to Burley Johnson who died on August 3, 1994.)...

South Africa 24
1994,
the inauguration
of our new nation.
Blacks' dedication
against violation.
The Black collaboration
for our liberation
against exploitation,
like Israel's salvation.
A freedom's invitation
from oppression
to secure black population.
Our vetarans, our inspiration.
Freedom, the celebration
of our destination
from generation
to generation.

Positive
Reckless abandon to feel desire
Carelessly fanning lonely fires.
Flames leap to warm the soul
A moment captured
And a yawning hole closes.
A vacancy filled for but a brief moment.
A tenderness felt within a comforting arm.
Strangers embrace: instinct takes over
Souls ignite ~
~ Where’s the harm?
Instant gratification:
Adverse denial.

Without Wax
An imaged stone
With hidden flaws
Hairline cracks
O crackerjack
Dimly lit monument
In its place
Ceraceously covered
Comfortable til proved
Masked til moved
Into the sunlight
In the round
Tried by fire
The heat of day
Melts away
The priceless statue
Subjectively devoid
Alone freestanding
To weather rains
Fears and pains
Exposing imperfections

Steam
White ribbons ascending upward
becoming breath of blue sky
Steam
Shadows of angels shooting arrows
into the proprietary of daily peril
Steam
Silhouettes of song swirling
the moat around everyone's heart
Steam

April's morning rain evaporation

For every truth I’ve sought, and found
I then discerned more lies around;
For every grace I got from God,
Received a scourging with His rod.
For love, and friends, and company,
Night vigils, fasts, and agony.
For coming closer to the Light,
My sins exposed upon the height;
Once mere clay, and sod, and mold,
Now glitter precious flecks of gold.

There Is a Lake
THERE is a lake somewhere
'midst pollution, coots & comorants thrive
Jewel in our overflowing sewage
Creation endures Curse of (ANC, Adam &) Eve
NoTE:
ANC is the ruling party & government majority in South Africa since the elections of 1994. With hardly a basic maintenance program anywhere, every hospital, school, office, utilities, and national treasure left THE ANC by its predecessor (NP, nationalist party) is an eyesore, tragedy, or will soon be)....

My Country 'Tis of Thee
When children are taught never to forget
conflicts’ lessons, to love all humans,
to honor those through history
who, selfless, wrought liberty. . .
Then will spangled dreams for
our peace be fulfilled
as God imparts
tomorrow’s
grace on
all.

October
October is a tragedy
Written by the ghosts of summertime,
Discharging promises and platitudes
Like an old man seated on a rocking chair;
Reciting them time and again,
Building false hope
Like a child
Building a house with playing cards.
Ferocious wind, a gentle thump,
They crumble;
Returning to a predetermined purpose,
Bound by a preexisting oath.

His Last 8 Seconds
The only child
but favorite
of two ‘outlaws’
mare and stud
He bucked each
gelded moment
on their wild ride
of love
Until that day
he up and left
their branding iron
of pain
To wander high
and lonesome
mongst the free
and tumbling sage
In search of one
last bronc to mount
that one last
horn to make
And spur the wreckage
of his youth
as Angels
— pull the Gate
