A Mutilated Oneness
Visionary’s promise,
   what’s never seen

Believers die invested,
   in lives that wait

Junctions of immunity,
   and sweeter air

A mutilated oneness,
—we call the truth

Fortitudes Ardour
Could you blame the American dream
Plastic coast to coast
A Harlequin pawns himself
Enterprise gone mad
Ply the rebop
The spirit of 1973
Corporate Lawyer loathed to tell the truth
A confident already foretold
Fortitudes' ardour
doomed to quieten itself...

Premium Member Oh No
I could not wait to stop wearing maternity clothes.
I had been pregnant for 9 months I 1971
and then for another 9 months in 1973.
You can hardly imagine how irritating it was
to see the newest fashions for women in 1974
looked like maternity tops!
That is all they sold in the stores.
The exact kind of smock I had been stuck in
for eighteen months!...

Novem: Affects IX in 1973

Nine college students record music
at some sheltered hideaway place.
They're killed in a van mishap,
on the way back to school.
Yond thirty-one years,
their songs recalled.
Sometimes fame
comes too
late.

Georgia Stranger
Thinking a sleeping owl perched on a rail in late afternoon would never notice
As I tried to pet its delicate feathers, to touch its chestnut brown grayish-ness
The Okefenokee Swamp owl bit me in 1973

Returning I thought as a symbol in 1986
Taking the place of wisdom

The owl returned with its question—
How do you like it that I have wakened you
up tonight and frightened you?...

At Home, Resting After A Sweet Morning Trek

Cool and sweet
Laced with gentle streams
The treasure of forested hills
Forest sighs, and afternoon delight
'neath welcoming sky.

Souls they touch
Hearts they enthrall
Day or night
Embrace this spirit
Soothe with that colorful treasure
O giant that awaits the dawn
Welcome this eager friend.

The Woodland Goddess

Thy mystic news from out the Invisible
Would save all men, were they but content to dwell
In lowly station, proud to share the power
That shapes the world in secret, hour by hour.

Her rosy fingers touched the ancient words
And lo! they quivered with the ecstasy
Of crimson bloom, sun-glances, caroling birds,
On forested green island waking into glee.

Premium Member A Scary Night In 1973
I was certainly a nervous mother
left on my own with a one year old child
my husband had gone on a business trip

noise startled me, one after another
imagination had gone quiet wild
squeaky back door let out a teeny rip

I was terrified as mother and wife
my back doorknob was moving with a whip
nothing about my hot feelings were mild

Muscatine police came to save my life
rapidly found four raccoons in their grip...

In Loving Memory of Our Fallen Angel

Rest In Peace: Renee Ann Stone

May 1973 - March, 2011

From blue skies
To green grass
To beautiful butterflies
You brought joy to our lives
With your millions of smiles,
And your face full of sunshine…
Though you must part
From our present,
You will be in our hearts dearly
Until we meet again in heaven…
Forever yours sincerely

so much pain
Lord why did you have to take Dwayne

I dont mean to question your judgement
but I just miss my cousin

in hindsight I can see that we was living wrong
but I dont think the cure was two bullets in his lungs

at the funeral while they quote proverbs and Psalms
I'm holding on his moms arm trying to keep her calm

she crying my sons another homocide victim
if that bullet would have knicked him it would have gotten our attention...

Premium Member Memories I Should Have Forgotten
memories in my head come out
at the oddest times.

when I am just sitting
I will remember
some odd little thing

 that happened in a
grocery store in 1973,
or a weird feeling I had
when looking out a window
of a hotel in 2003.

Things that seemed
not at all memorable at
the time they happened

apparently were
much more prevalent
than I would have
ever believed.

Why I know the
dates is anyone's
guess

The Caspian Sea; is that where friendly ghosts go for vacation?
Big as a football field: don't you know about foot measurements??
The Swat Team; I called them when my house was infested with flies.
My psychiatrist asked me if I had any "old reservations" about a desire to end
some bad habits. I said, "Yeah, I have some old reservations- two unredeemed
tickets to a 1973 Pink Floyd concert" this really took place.
How come 2 & 2 isn't 22??

Enough for now, all you dedicated "Soupers"...
