Safeties Poems | Examples

To Angelina

I'll show you everything I love,
Everything that has built me up.
I'll show you all my safeties
And all the things that have held me.
I know you will keep them
With the most delicate respect.

And anything that is hidden
I will dredge up from the trench
Because we cannot understand each other
Until we've seen each other's wounds.
I want you to know where I come from.
I want you to know the molds that have formed me.

I'll shoot myself with Cupid's d#mn bow.
I know you'll care for the aftermath.
You shot yourself with it first,
And we are each other's disinfectant.

Thank you.
I love you.
I cannot believe my luck.

Whatchamacallit

Flabbergasted at my findings
Drooling slightly over luck
Hard to explain how my life has changed
Now the proud owner of a Whatchamacallit

It came with all the accessories
All the whistles plus the bells
Lucky I grabbed it when I did
You know how fast those things fly off the shelf

Double wrapped in heavy plastic
Sealed up tight for safeties sake
To keep from the hands of those not in the know
Plus less chance of escape

Though Whatchamacallit's aren't dangerous
They are mischievous all the same
Far be it for me to set mine free
And be the one to blame

So I keep it on a leash
Everytime that I go out
Even put it in my pocket
If I'm roaming a big crowd

But believe you me if it's me you see
Out someday on the street
I have my Whatchamacallit
Somewhere close to me

I'd like to thank cheryl hoffman for the idea of this fiasco!

The Known Path

We know exactly where this path will lead,
Every twist and turn we know by heart,
But still we choose to proceed,
And willingly accept our painful part.

And there will be pain along our way,
Of that you can be more than sure,
But our hearts’ desires forever betray,
The safeties of pathways more secure.

While the safeties of the easy road,
Offer certainties you can count upon,
We take the path with troubles bestowed,
As its adventure which drives us on.

The adventurous path has both lows and highs,
As well as storms, we’ll see fine weather,
And despite the hurts that we know will arise,
It’s worth all the pain if we face it together.

In the Midst of Shipwrecks

Fading beacons, lights along the further distant shores
As the firebugs within nights, a burning nevermore
Left unpleasured in their yearning, Seamen laden take the test of storms

As the lunar lighthouse crossing clouds, swallowing up to blacken bay
And mariners are dreaming of hearth and home beneath Trident's splashing grayer haze
But, more of regret that they're met by wave after crashing wave

And the lightning unrelenting, lighting up hollow safeties
As sirens do, louder than the roars that nature orchestrates
Where silence booms just below, the ocean offers up her truce of deadly ways

A chance for eternal rest in seabeds of reef and precious sunken treasures
Thus, once again joining their fallen, fellow shipmate anchors
In the mist of a shipwrecks, beguiled into ancient slumber
Waiting in unmarked graves to one day be discovered

Rebellion and Loyalty

In the restless fifties, teens had to face many realities:
join the draft and go to war or rebel and bear absurdities,
the neutral ones stayed in college and avoided penalties;
oh for God's sake, why should any youngster fight enemies?
Hippies rebelled against the government and shouted obscenities;
they wanted to smoke pot, make love and have lots of babies.
When Motherland calls her soldiers, there are no certainties...
either you fight to survive, or you surely die without strategies.
All mothers cried as they departed to meet their destinies;
did anyone hear them whispering those rules to assure safeties?
The young soldiers did, not discarding hopes and possibilities.
The Vietnam War was a long one, stretching into the seventies;
many didn't return, some did to enjoy serenities and liberties...
and proud they were to have served well, shunning insecurities.

Summer Remembered

Close your eyes and I shall take you there
A summer’s day with restless care
Standing at the waters break
Holding hands as we walked along the wake

Feel the mist as it touched our face
Remembrance of such a peaceful place
Ocean breeze blowing through your hair
Children’s laughing fills the air

Listen to the waves as they crash the shore
Watching fisherman out upon the wharf
See the lighthouse out in the night
Lending its guidance and safeties sight

Now open your eyes from our memories there
Keeping always the love we shared
Yes this was our summers breech
Always with you for many days to keep

That Familiar Quickening... Part 1

Turbine whistling
Wait...
Until all is green
Time to go

That familiar quickening
Of a heart
Trained in the art of war
To do battle
Rotors spinning

Left and right...
The tech calls
Clear!
Progressive collective
Rising high
In to the sunlight

Time to target
Five minutes
That familiar quickerning
Switches, set

Terrs, visual!
Lynxes, marking with frantan
Left hand orbit
Time to go...

Heave of cyclic
Nose up
Shudder
Bleeding off speed
Safeties , off
You hear the snap and click

In a cloud of dust
A fireforce deplaned
For needs must...
Terrs, visual

Max power,
collective to full
Building speed
Skimming trees

Tech, observing
They're running!
Brownings chatter
The cordite smell
The enemy scatter

Watching the fuel
Adjusting throat mike
Ten minutes to bingo
Orbitting
Hearing the battle on the ground
Time to go...

In dusty skies
K-cars and G-cars flew
Skimming across the bush
Purposeful dragonflies
Trained in the art of war

To fight anywhere
That familiar quickening
Turbine whistled
Wait...
Until all is green
Time to go...
