The honest heart says,
I love you...
The honest heart weeps,
I need you...
But the heart of heart you had
I cannot make it beat...
The honest heart regrets,
guilt echoes through my heart...
The honest heart whispers,
I should've spoken more...
The honest heart feels,
I miss you...
And the honest heart wishes,
whole heaven for you.

I remember our beloved grandmother Elfrieda,
She came to live with us when we were young.
She brought an antique table and crafted chest with her.
Looked beautiful in our parent's living-room.
Good to have her with us,
When our parents worked and studied grandmother cared for us.
She would cook and bake delicious foods, I really enjoyed that.
Her ability with crafts continue to bless us.
She knit me a nordic sweater and sewed me an outfit for my birthday,
A beautiful sailor's sweater and pleated skirt for my birthday.
When I grew up i met and married a sailor.
Grandmother is such a good memory.
Grandmother lived with us in a pretty room,
She and mother would settle accounts monthly.
She had company and we were blessed with a very kind and giving grandmother,
Sewed my grade eight graduation dress and my grade thirteen graduation dress.
Mother and i would select the material,
MY grandmother would sew the beautiful dresses.
They are such good memories,
Rudi was her handsome and kind husband, our grandfather.
Such good memories growing up,
We were very blessed as children.

Rudi Rubberoid
Grossialdo! Grossialdo!
Rip the face off Uncle Waldo!
Scare that fellow once too often!
Nail 'im in a wooden coffin!
Plant 'im nicely six feet under!
Leave 'im there and let 'im wonder!
Dig 'im up when heartbeat ceases!
Cook 'im for his giggly nieces!—
Yuk! Old Waldo's brain is oozy!
I can't look! It makes me whoozy!
Ship the corpse to Colorado!
To his mother! GROSSIALDO!

O, little birdy,
haven’t you heardy?
You will be plucked today.
Cooing and lovin'
soon in the oven
baked on a silver tray.
Glazed honey sweetened
you will be eatened
served on a plate e'er long.
So, little birdy,
O!, little birdy,
sing to me one last song.
“O! Little Birdy!” was in Rudi Rubberoid’s NOMO THE ZINE, January 1992; then in THE RATTY'S GAZETTE 8, 1995. It was gathered into my chapbook collection LAKE OF THE DEVIL: POEMS OF MOROSITY AND JEST (Seattle: Duck's-foot Tree Productions, 1995) limited to 75 copies.

Rudi Rudi
My beloved wild
A poem for you
No one like you
Your soft claws and tiny teeth
Your hiss soft as a whisper
Rudi Rudi
My beloved child
The lessons you teach
Never will I forget
In the embrace cocoon
I return you to the nest of love
My wild Rudi
A poem for you
My beloved child
