Majestic and grand, a wonderous mythical creature,
The central horn on their head is the prominent feature.
I’m afraid I don’t know much more about the unicorn,
But not sending you a birthday wish, I become forlorn.
So it seems I don’t have the knowledge to do this write,
And so I thought about this problem with all my might,
Did some research and found you something really neat,
It’s made in County Meath Ireland, canned unicorn meat.
Really pleased with myself to achieve such a perfect find,
Then I read, you can’t eat the meat ~ just blows my mind.
Seems the contents are torn apart stuffed unicorn parts,
Imagine someone thinking up this item, they had the smarts.
Well Poet ~ Destroyer, wish you the very best birthday,
Sorry my poem on unicorns didn’t have more to say.
View the ad on www.thinkgeek.com its really sweet,
And I hope the joys of your Birthday are truly complete.

Horizons painted orange and red and yellow and gold,
Means there will be added garbage bags to fill and fold.
Temperatures cool and people begin to move inside,
Soon Influenza is at its peak, you’ve no place to hide.
Flu shots may help, but you seem to get sick anyways,
Rainy wet weather, dull and dreary, much shorter days.
Doesn’t sound like splendor - outstanding and grand,
But I still think its the best season, please let me expand,
There’s good things and bad that comes with autumn,
The splendor for me, is more clothes to cover my bottom.

A pile of pennies built strong love,
Childhood memories so sweet,
As they look down from above,
Helped make me feel complete.
Childhood memories so sweet,
Playing Rumoli using the penny,
Helped make me feel complete,
Laughter grew from so many.
Playing Rumoli using the penny,
Summer was a bonding time,
Laughter grew from so many,
Family dinners so sublime.
Summer was a bonding time,
As they look down from above,
Family dinners so sublime,
A pile of pennies built strong love.

I awaken to the lovely snorts of my sweet English bulldog,
Frankie sits up in my bed, legs out, looks sort of like a frog.
Toddling down the stairs assessing the light from the window,
We know whether the trip outside will be short or rather slow.
Terrified of thunderstorms, she’ll do her job with no delay,
But she’ll wander and sniff, taking her time on a sunny day.
While Frankie smells the grass and deposits her little gift,
I make a tea and look out over the river, it gives me a lift.
Blue Herron feeding and carp jump, the temperatures scorch,
Cardinals, Bluejays and yellow Finch fill the trees by the porch.
You breath in the fresh air and appreciate the nature present,
Peaceful and filled with hope, its a typical morning, no big event.
I refill the bird feeders to keep my feathered friends coming back,
Then Frankie and I go inside, mornings we’ve perfected the knack.

My Dearest Lee…How we miss thee!
Please come back…here is our plea…
If you’d come back, we agree…
To eat cold Brussels sprouts and a pea
To swim across the Yellow sea
To take you on a shopping spree
To suck the stinger from a bee
To take you to Vail and let you ski
To shine your name on a marquee
To rig you kids’ spelling bee
To let you race in the Grand Prix
To arrange with the queen, afternoon tea
To kick Chris and Frank in the knee
To give up our glass of Chablis
To let you win every game of yahtzee
To run around naked, like a banshee
Lee, please come back and hear our plea
Then we will all be yellin’ “YIPPEE”
*Now Lee…we would never really kick Chris and Frank in the knee b/c we love them dearly but the rest is true :) We really miss your style of poetry…your message pieces…your unique way of telling a story. Please come back to us my dear.

My Favourite Leaf
When someone mentions leaves, I always think of fall,
It precedes winter’s introduction, a slow rambling crawl
Visualizing the leaves of burnt orange and crimson red,
Inspiring excitement for the celebrations that lie ahead.
While most people think that the maple leaf is the prettiest of all,
Together these leaves display horizons, a brillant, colour sprawl,
But the leaf I love most is slid into my dining table to add length,
Means my family will sit all together again, our eternal strength.

Only seven years old but always bullied and hurt,
A constant string of hurtful names others would blurt,
Wondered how I’d ever get through grade three,
Figured that was the way life would always be.
Until Mrs. Shrum my teacher spoke up one day,
She made me feel important in such a special way.
Giving me duties that only the best students got,
Making the bullies look and feel like a sorry lot.
She wrote many glowing praises in my report card,
Stating of my behaviour she held the greatest regard.
I was kind and considerate, a great asset to the class,
Self-esteem grew from the compliments I did amass.
Mrs. Shrum made me shine and sparkle like a gem,
Only positive feedback, she would never condemn.
This wonderful teacher proved to be truly iridescent,
I believe because of her, I was not a troubled adolescent.

Fall’s fire is written on every deciduous tree,
A chorus of harmony displayed for all to see.
The first frost paints lace on the window pane,
Patterns and designs are never quite the same,
The smell of burning wood floats in the chilled air,
Signs that everything’s in place for a great love affair.
Come together and cuddle close by the roaring fire,
Sipping at hot cocoa, looking at your heart’s desire.
It’s time to settle down with that special someone,
Beachboys and parties of the summer are all done.
The spark burns brightly on this lovely autumn day,
Hoping this new simmering love beyond fall, will stay.

A personality,
Ends in fatality,
Witness a city alive,
Pastry smells fill the air,
Architecture you stare,
Business, people make it thrive,
Each city has its feel,
Recession ends the steel,
Can it possibly revive?

As the sun moves down and sets behind the distant trees,
You take a deep breath, the perfect time of day, if you please.
Shoulders relax as you sit and reflect on the hours gone by,
Evening approaches as the day ends and you breathe a sigh.
The sky changes colour from warm yellow to pinkish mauve,
Supper is done and the dirty dishes are still sitting on the stove.
Don’t work through this picture, you don’t want to miss the glow,
The shine on the river, the reflected shadows make time slow.
Not only is the world most beautiful now but without the sun,
It signals that if its been a bad day, it is now officially done.
Sometimes in the summer, its a perfect time to take a drive,
Makes you feel good, singing and driving, just glad to be alive.
You anticipate the oncoming evening because it holds your private time,
Where you can take a bath and soak, that feeling of calm, so sublime.
Sundown reminds you that repairing slumber time will soon be here,
Tomorrow, same feelings but the picture changes throughout the year.

Sleeping in your crib, you were curled onto your side,
A thumb inside your mouth, a blanket cuddled in your arm.
Only 18 months old, your baby blue eyes so beautiful,
How could anyone bruise you this way, your innocence lost,
Who was it who hurt you like this, if only you could talk.
You take a bottle from me and nuzzle into my grasp,
I want to protect you from any more harm and pain,
All I can do right now, is love and care for you with all I have,
And give your medications that will make you strong again.
So I kiss you good night and place you back in your crib,
May your night be filled with good fairies and sweet dreams.
Then Social Services will take you away when you are well,
I only hope and pray that you will be safe now forever more.

I light my candle from within the more I give to you,
An inner strength builds inside, it fills my empty soul,
The encompassing love present when my life was askew,
Needing a reason to get up every morning was my goal,
Volunteering at hospice gave me more, filling a gapping hole.
