Quatre-vingts jours
On Duolingo and I’m still
in the present tense which
is fine as I still make mistakes
masculine et feminine are a bit
of a toss but I’m getting better
lesson by lesson and I have
cent et dix-huit crowns et
trois cent quarante-six lingos
whatever they are.

I’m best at translating français écrit
to written English and am getting
better at transcribing français parlé
but to be honest, I must admit that
mon français oralé is halting at
best and it’s not helped by the
covid-19 self-distancing/lockdown
as my Continuing Education course
FRENCH II is in limbo with every
thing else and we haven’t had a class
for weeks and when I look at the
class notes it seems we’re stuck
au milieu de passé impartait
et futur proche.

Premium MemberSonnet About Quatre Bornes

My town is a floral one, known in French as
"La Ville des Fleurs," for, it is one so beautifully gardened
It is, in the island, the place where I roam about, fully at ease
For it is a town, which has been always, since its birth, so well governed!

A town it is, found in the middle of the island, nearly on the plateau
It fans chilly winds in winter, and cool freshness in summer
If I could, I would have built here my own chateau
For here, one gets to feel that living is as delicious as an appetizer!

I would leave it never, however strong may be the pulls of adventure
I would leave it never, for here I get to live as I want to
Giving my time equally to both duty and leisure
Why, in my town, I do even get to see and write of life through!

Pray, my island is well known as a tropical paradise, it gives the world a thrill,
Yet, my town is the place which bids my heart and breath to never stand still!

Ballerina

You are found at fingertips like a marionette,
Quatre pirouette, coupe jeté, grand plijé, brise amourettes,

Why do you do these:

All the time

All the time

For me

For me

When There’s nothing that I give
You bent, you bend backwards arriere cambre
Break your heart on display
leave your heart on the stage

All the time

All the time

For me

For me

Like a ballerina

Like a ballerina

     with a one ...two

            a one ...two

            "I want you"

            "I want you"

i can see

i can see

                       a one ...two ...three
                         a one ...two ...three
                            a one ..two ...three

                        a three ...four

                        "i want to be!"
                            "i want to be!"
                               "I want to be!..."
                         "...Be yours"

Daguerre's Lunch

Louis came to the café around one,
set his wooden boxes beside a table
and looked at the chalk board menu as
he felt through his pants for money

He decided he could afford a
baguette, a small slice of
Brie de Meaux, and a pear

He told the waiter his order
and began to expose the copper plate
of the menu sitting on the next table

The waiter returned with lunch and
said "quatre francs s'il vous plaît" as
Louis dug his pants and handed payment

Then Louis began to eat while
time took in, the cost of capturing
the world in a whole new way

Popping the last of the Brie to mouth
he closed the aperture, put on his bowler
and said "bon monsieur l'après-midi"
and walked down the afternoon avenue

JANUARY in slence ,hides its cry
 APRIL in splendour,catches the eye
JULY lazing,as the world goes by
 OCTOBER disrobes,as fall leaves die
