The Early Years
She is to entertain 20 people
I fried up 20 cucumbers
5 lbs. Of okra
In a grit and Parmesan cheese
And bits of bacon in the batter
Some spices, mace, cayenne , paprika
Garlic and onion powder in the
Bater*w/flour and eggs baking soda*
I roasted a teriyaki style pork loin
And sliced it thin with commercial
Mixer, I mean the slicer
A creamy sauce to top it
With vinager , jalapeno, lime
Cream cheese and sour cream
With a touch of fish stock and a
Drop or two of gin, extra dry honey!
Fixed some cheesy grits
Fried some green tomatoes
Steamed some shrimp
And made crab balls
And a pot of
Hollindise
With lime and tequila
and cayenne, Sweet Missie
Slap my ass!
Strawberry shortcake
With
A rummy strawberry sauce
Whipped cream
And vanilla ice cream
Ya'll that's ah party!
Slurp the white zinfendell
And tug at your drawels

We try to do some local things
Whenever we’re away,
Although we’re clearly tourists
On a short and jam-packed stay.
So we signed up for a cooking class
And watched a chef prepare
Gumbo, jambalaya and pralines,
Some Cajun-Creole fare.
It all was most delicious
And Chef Austin was the best.
We left there more than satisfied
And happily impressed.
Not needing any dinner,
We checked out some local jazz,
Where Tom Hook, a piano player,
Entertained us with pizzazz.
It’s wonderful to have a chance
To try out something new
As a little break before you’re back
To what you always do.

Christmas Confections
Visions of candy canes, swirling red and white stripes,
Pirouette through our dreams spinning Christmas delights;
Sugar sticks and sugar plums tweak our imaginations
When bright store windows show off marshmallow creations ~
~ ~ ~
Truffles and toffee nestled near gumdrops red and green
Spun sugar delights fit for a queen;
Peppermint bark, only seen once a year,
Graces gingerbread houses when in villages they appear ~
~ ~ ~
Raspberry candies filled with gooey, sweet centers
Hold hands with ribbon candy - childhood remembers;
Creations of fudge draw our attentions
Chocolate and maple, vanilla nut confections ~
~ ~ ~
Sugar and cinnamon coats nuts of every variety
When coal lumps of licorice invite stocking anxiety;
Pralines, nonpareils, cocoa snowballs, chocolate mints
Sour stars and lollipops leave a holiday footprint ~

Love
‘Tis Christmas past to celebrate
When Love came down.
And in this lonely quiet estate,
I reminisce
When Love came home.
Fatigue sets in, but just for a time,
Love is active, love sublime,
Thinking of what would please another,
The sacrifice of uncomfortable travel,
Even tired and shopping frustrations
Are manifestations of Love.
Love can be the pralines you spilled on the floor,
Love can be a neighbor with a gift at the door.
Love is the lights hung on a cold winter day,
Love is the nap when the kids go away.
Love can be felt in tenderness;
Love can be emotional and nostalgic,
But Love isn’t any of those things,
Without the root of believing in it,
And giving of self no matter
Where “feelings” may take us.

In the shade under trees
My mind, body and soul at ease
Enjoying the breeze
Feeling good
In and out of the neighborhood
Or woods
Not feeling like any
It's been long enough, I'm five years past twenty
Ready to hold on steady
Regardless of if the burden is heavy
In a world with things considered deadly
It does no good working for pennies
When you got opportunities to get plenty
Even if it ends up only being temporary
So many get caught up in feelings and envy
That **** ain't healthy
Or going to help peeps get wealthy
Now I'll tell you once, I'm not buying the ******** you're trying to sell me
I'm burning one at the cemetary
Where many of the dead are buried
Trying to write more material that is legendary
And no longer secondary
Before during or after turning eighteen
Regardless of if we played on different or the same teams
This is going way deeper than anything main stream
Yet way clean
Whatever it all may mean
Near and far from shops that do or don't sell pralines
Better take care of yourself, instead of risking gangrene

Sweet Tooth
She always asks for candy,
When we ask what she wants for her Day,
Or on Christmas she asks for pralines,
That come from far away.
She never asks for diamonds,
Nor an eco friendly mink;
Only some kind of truffles,
Or a gooey chocolate drink.
Jelly beans by the handfuls,
She keeps at her kitchen door,
I’ll want that candy dish in her will,
Just in case it fills some more.
We all just call her Sweet Tooth,
She never puts on any pounds,
If she did, we’d love her just the same,
For GrandMother is sweet as it sounds.

Chocolate Indulgences (20150129)
If I really had no choice but to divulge,
In mountains of chocolate I would indulge.
I'm not just taking about Snickers,
Reese's peanut butter cups, Butterfingers,
Or other grocery store sweeties.
I'm talking about the expensive stuff, most from oversea:
Fruit and nut bars from British Cadbury,
Milk molasses chips from local Mrs. See's,
Fudge Easter Eggs from domestic Helen Grace,
Belgian praline Sea Shells from Leonidas,
Belgian Cote D'Or bouche pralines,
And from Germany's Ritter Sport--EVERYTHING!
Wallowing in glorious chocolate, I'd be so pathetic,
If not for the fact, that I'm a diabetic.

Again, 'tis that glorious season of the year,
For sharin' love and spreadin' holiday cheer!
Time for my dear spouse to begin her ever-lovin',
Bakin' of toothsome delicacies in her trusty oven!
Some of Grandma's recipes are used in this enterprise,
'Specially the one for her scrumptious pecan pies!
She bakes a fruit cake of which I'll taste just a tittle,
But I'll sure sink my choppers into lots of peanut brittle!
An elaborate Victorian gingerbread house is created,
And cakes so soaked in rum I'll surely be inebriated!
There are spritz cookies of every size and shape.
Calories abound in the penuche over which I go ape!
A Yule tradition is a cookie call snickerdoodles.
Of these and pralines I can eat oodles and oodles!
Aromas waftin' about the house nearly drive me daffy,
As she makes cookies, walnut fudge and molasses taffy!
I'm allowed the bliss of the pots and pans to scrape,
But beyond that from the kitchen I must escape!
To sample all that stuff my palate is just itchin',
But I'm unceremoniously invited out of the kitchen!

porch light midnights
your voodoo kisses
drifting in the fog to
french quarter sidewalks
walking on the ghosts
of southern intimacy
antique balconies with
green wooden shutters
half shadows of you and i
sweet handmade pralines
floating on a cypress stump
walking on water for
a taste of you
casting your spell
with your chicken foot wand
you melt me into
the mississippi delta
pour me out on bourbon street
dancing in your trance
seductive velvet hips
speaking the language
of the mimes
i stumble in your stare
a riverboat gambler
with a tarot card hand
tempting my fate
in your eyes
misty moonlight dust lines
cover your seductive curves
take me with your erotic flair
bring me back home
the creaking of the front porch
drowns me in its painted glow
mosquitoes buzz
as i taste the flood
the ruby red lips
that are your voodoo kisses
